Coldwater Golf Club
About
Located in the West Valley, the championship-length course at the Coldwater Golf Club boasts several different challenges for an interesting round of golf. There are elevated tees as well as several dry washes. There are two lakes providing water hazards on the golf course as well. There are also dramatic elevation changes caused by the mountainous terrain. Aside from the challenging game, the course also offers beautiful mountain vistas. The course has not only one signature course but two. The first is the modest eighth hole. Although it is short at 100 yards, it features an elevated tee and a triple-tiered green. Coldwater Golf Club also finishes with a signature hole. The beginning tee shot plays to an open fairway over water with a dry wash to the left, while the approach shot is closed-in by another wash to the left and a lake to the right.

Coldwater Golf - expect what you pay
Ok, this review may seem a bit harsh to some; however, hear me out. 40+ years of playing golf in the Phoenix Metroplex during Prime Season, Jan-March, has taught me this: You get what you pay for. Mostly true, although I've definitely over paid at times; example, The Boulders (a story for a different time). Therefore, the course conditions were probably on par with paying $228.48 for two at 11:30. Here we go. The range was on worn down mats, range golf balls were about 50% ok and 50% cut and or chewed up balls. The carts were so dirty that I thought they were used sand buggies. The tee boxes were either not mowed or had patches of holes of dirt. The fairways needed to have been mowed about 3 days prior. The greens were smooth, green, and putted about 6-8 speed. The pace of play was a bit sluggish. We waited on every shot and had a 3-some waiting on us about half the time. I liked the course layout. I think that this is a course either facing money issues or draining the profits before unloading it. So all this to say, for $228.48 for 2 in Prime Time, Prime Season, we got what we paid for. We won't be back, but it was a nice day for golf and we made the most of it. "Any day on the golf links is good day." :-) Skol!
Outstanding fun golf course
Played this course again yesterday it is in great shape. The staff from checking in to the restaurant and everywhere else is extremely friendly. Had a really great lunch as well after our round. We will definitely be returning to play again.
Bad Course
I played at coldwater this morning. We had a 8:24 tee time for 2 players. We played behind a group of 7 playing as a threesome & a foursome. The foursome in front of us had no clue of pace of play. They waited to tee off on every hole until the group in front of them were on the green. The tee boxes are trashed here. When your paying $86 you shoild at least have grass & level boxes. I tired to call the club house twice and was put on hold both times. There is no marshal here. After so slow of play we got a surprise on the 18th tee box. There is now 7 guys playing together on the 18th. Tried to call tbe club house but got the same response. Hello please hold. Now we are sitting on the fairway 110 yards from the green and the 7 guys aren't clearing the green. They see us waitiing so they decide it time to take selfies. I yelled for them to clear the green but the continued to take selfies az we waited. When they were fone we were saluted with a finger. To add insult to the course condition & behavior when I paid with my credit card I was charged a $2.95 ATM/.Credit Card fee. Won't be back to this course. See pictures of tee boxes.
Will play again
Had an afternoon tee off time pace of play was very slow. The overall condition the course was excellent
Great course with great workers
We found this course in 2019 and have been playing it whenever we come back to Phoenix. Either the hiring process is great by finding the nicest and friendliest staff, or the training is working well. We have come to Phoenix for week on March 15th to 23rd and will play the course 6 times because really, why go anywhere else for twice the price?
Needs a ranger badly
Very slow and overall lack of awareness to the issue
Great experience
I’m a college golf coach and our team played the course today during our spring break. It was fantastic. The course was in excellent shape and the staff was wonderful. We loved it and we're going to see if we can play it again tomorrow.
Johnboy2
The round was good but could have been excellent if the marshal would have help move the slow players along. Three groups were held back a slow twosome. One of our players didn't finish his round because of the slow pace.
Gorgeous Course and GREAT People Working At This Place
This has become my go-to course when I am in Phoenix area. I have played it twice in the past month. First off it is in phenomenal shape, hats off to the owners for reseeding last year and making this place a true gem. Second, the staff are terrific. Absolutely top notch customer service. From taking care of tee times, to giving advice on incredible places to go in the area. Big shout out to Drew for recommending Leo's in Avondale for what turned out to be the best breakfast burrito on the planet. Made for a perfect day there recently. Came in during recent rain (pretty rare in PHX) and everyone had smiles and great attitude, just wait it out and enjoy the clubhouse. It could not have been better. I will be back next month, cannot wait!
Cussing me out
Went golfing at Coldwater and it was pouring rain went in after 5 holes of golf to ask for a 9 hole rain check after I paid for 18 holes. Pete then proceeded to tell me it’s not raining and had no interest in looking to see if it was raining for himself. He laughed at me when I asked for the rain check. Pete then started raising his voice and I told him he had poor customer service and then Pete told me to leave using vulgar language. I was shocked at that statement and then turned around and left. Will not return to Cold Water. Do not recommend playing this course.
Never again
As a local who golfs regularly, I was really disappointed with my first experience at Cold Water Golf Course in Avondale. To start, the golf cart barely ran — it felt like it was on its last legs, which is not what you want when you're out there trying to enjoy a round. The course itself wasn’t much better. It was poorly marked, and finding the next tee box was a real challenge, which just added to the frustration.
The course conditions were also lacking. The grass was patchy all over, and it seemed like the course hadn't been well-maintained in a while. Then, when the rain hit and we got absolutely drenched, we asked Pete for a voucher to come back and finish the back nine later. Instead of being understanding, he was rude and belligerent — definitely not the kind of service you'd expect, especially when weather is out of anyone's control.
I've played at a lot of courses around here, and unfortunately, this one didn’t even come close to meeting expectations. Won’t be back.
First/ last time
Halfway these course, little ragged even not bad pro shop service was abysmal Pete Man, the pro shop, and was exceptionally rude. When I asked for a rain check given the rain told me that it was as a matter of fact, not raining and that I should’ve known that it was going to rain. The rain was projected to end at 10 AM. My teatime was 1230.
First time Last time
Horrible service scheduled my teatime for after the rain was projected to cease by three hours. Did not even want a full rain check. Wanted the back nine something not much refused to give anything laughed me out of his pro shop and swore at me horrible service. Don’t recommend going there guy behind the pro shop counter was named Pete Was incredibly rude.
Very nice course!
First time I played this course and I really enjoyed it. The greens were in great shape. Fairways were in good shape some very challenging holes and overall a great value for the money. The only downside is that there is no outside cart service so you will have a slow down at the turn if you want any food or beverages.
This course continuously goes down hill
This course continually goes downhill every time I play it. There doesn’t appear to be much effort in keeping the course up, the greens are terribly patchy, fairways are either dried out or way too wet, ponds are dry terrible, there’s gopher holes in tee boxes. It’s even over priced for a round of yukking it up with the boys.
Clubhouse/bar and staff are pretty great though!
Great course in good condition.
There were a few rough tee boxes, but the fairways and greens were in fantastic condition. Playing from the tips really added some yardage and thought. Definitely worth the trip and price. Definitely playing the course again.
