Nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, DarkHorse Golf Club tumbles across a magnificent landscape that once served as a cattle ranch. The course incorporates a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. This tough layout is definitely not for the faint of heart. From short par 3s to monstrous par 5s, this course has a little bit of everything. The severely sloped greens demand accuracy and the bunkers were strategically placed to provide a multitude of shot-making opportunities. Tricky doglegs and uphill and downhill lies aren't the only challenges you'll face, there are also several water hazards that come into play throughout and an abundance of trees that make it even more difficult to navigate your ball. DarkHorse G.C. is situated 50 miles east of Sacramento and though it might be a bit of a drive to get there, local golfers consider the round well worth the trip.

Great Course. Need Marshals to Watch Pace.

We teed off at 12 pm and took over 5 hours to get to the 18 hole because of the group ahead of us. And we ran out of sunlight and couldn’t even even finish 18. Darkhorse, please actually have a Marshall on-site and make slow moving groups pick up the pace. Other than that, an amazing course.

Slow play

The 5 1/2 hour round pretty much convinced us to stay at Winchester. There was no Marshall to help speed things up.

I'm reaching out from Darkhorse Golf Club about your visit on November 3 and your GolfNow review.

We're glad you chose our club, and we always aim to provide a top-notch golfing experience. We heard about the issues at Winchester Country Club and understand such changes can affect members like you.

Regarding your feedback about slow play at our course, we've checked, and your round was 4 hours and 21 minutes, not 5.5 hours as mentioned. We have video proof with timestamps of you at the cashier (11:43 AM) at the driving range (11:49 AM) the first hole (12:13) and at the cart return area (4:34 PM) and can share it with you if you'd like.

There seems to be a mix-up about how long you were here and we're sorry for any confusion. However, we must point out that your review doesn't seem to accurately reflect your experience with us. We believe in being honest and truthful in all communication.

Also, we're at full capacity with a waitlist for memberships, so we can't offer anything to you or your group at this moment. Nick Buchta

Great Course - little crowded on Friday- but Ok.

Great course - my only issue was that I used an online voucher I purchased about 6 months ago which was good 7 days per week after 10am. When I went to use it yesterday (Friday) I was told it was $14 extra each to use it on fridays which wasn’t the case when I bought it. The purchase date should be considered when redeeming vouchers.

Over priced.

Greens were in great condition. Otherwise not impressed with much else. Slow play overpriced mismatched range balls. Have to walk your clubs up from the parking lot. Only reason I go back is for the scenery.

The Clubhouse is located on the golf course not next to the check-in kiosk. Sorry about that.

Quite the Beast

I'm ot the golfer this course was designed for. There had been a heavy rain two days prior and the soft fairways and extremely lush rough stripped away any roll found in summer.

I literally was not strong enough to get out of the rough on half my missed fairways. Although the course played from the Blue tees is not long the trajectory for tee shots is critical due to elevation changes.

The soft greens were receptive and rolled true and very fast.

Good luck.

Taking the Darkhorse out for a ride

The course is hilly with a lot of undulation in elevations. Its challenging, but OK if you have a little course knowledge, which we did not. Its enjoyable and in good condition. Greens were challenging, but in good condition.

No clubhouse which was disappointing, but the course is Beautiful and Challenging.
