Victoria Hills Golf Club
About
Victoria Hills Golf Club located in Deland has jaw-dropping beauty. Golfers will appreciate Roland Garl's vigorous bunkering, which oscillates between the expansive and the intricate, depending on the hole. An array of pot bunkers, waste bunkers, native wetlands, water sprays, bunkers integrated within a natural setting, and elevation changes rarely seen on a Florida golf course await you. Garl's course is graceful and feminine
Victoria Hills could easily be called "The State of Florida's Garden of Golf,"- inland settings such as this are virtually unprecedented in this state. Yet while the splendor and natural beauty of the property are notable, this is not simply eye candy and lazy golf. Victoria Hills, as one player put it, "is a blast to play". In any evaluation, it's difficult to imagine how a golfer would not rate a round here as one of their most enjoyable in Florida.

$1m to restore this back to what it was
I have not played this course since it went down hill a couple years ago. We will not play it again anytime soon as the conditions will take months to bring it back to anywhere near what it was. Very disappointing, can not even begin to recommend playing here. So sorry to see this as it was a gem a few years ago.
Amazed !
We had not played this course for several months as we had been very disappointed with the course conditions...Sad sad upkeep....greens with more sand than grass, sorry fairways and traps...Just really depressing to look at what was once a beautiful sight...and once finished playing you wondered why you even bothered......Played last week and couldn't believe the course improvement to the greens especially and to the fairways and the course in general...Hard to believe the improvement in such a short period of time....The Superintendent quite obviously knows what is needed to prepare a golf course that will enable the players to enjoy playing it....Still some work to be done but what has been done is almost unbelievable...You have to see it to believe it now...!
It’s Alive and Well
I recently re-visited Victoria Hills GC after having lived on the 2nd hole for 18year (it was originally the 11th hole). Prior to moving 2 years ago the course conditions hall had been on the decline for several years but the course layout remained unique to the area due to elevation changes and scenery not available at other area courses.
After reading several positive reviews from recent guest my son and I decided to revisit these special grounds from his youth and we were thrilled to see the that the course conditions have vastly improved, from tee to green. Although the course is not quite back to the condition it was when the course opened, it’s well on its way to revisiting the glory days.
Bravo to the entire staff - your hard work is paying off!!
Progress - But
I did a review a few months ago and it was deservedly harsh. I tired it again last week because someone told me it was better. There is definite improvement and it deserves to be mentioned here. Seems the new Superintendent is doing a very good job and seems to be getting support from the Owner who has been scrimping on maintenance the last 5 years! The fairways are getting better, still some large bare spots that need to be leveled out and repaired. Chipping ares have gotten better but some holes need some work. The 12 Greens that were a disaster are getting better but not all the way back yet, some have some Sod patches done which should accelerate the recovery (use more Sod). So hopefully if the progress does not stop this can be on my regular play list in a couple of months, I hope so, great layout.
They are trying
Overall alright you feel the effort from the staff but in the two times I’ve been both times one of the staff rubbed me wrong. The course condition is getting better but still alittle rough.
Yeah it was the GM he is not very customer friendly at all!
On the way back
Always loved this course and was sad when it went into decline, however it looks like the groundskeeper has things going in the right direction! Not there yet, but with some rain and time, hoping to see it returned to it’s former glory
Finally Improving!
For the first time in quite a while, I see signs of improvement. I just hope it continues and gets back to what it once was.
Finally! Improvement
Boy, having played this course a few months ago, it’s obvious the owner has finally found the right leadership for the course. It’s clear he’s willing to spend the money and make the decisions needed to make this once great course great again! The bunkers look amazing and there is strong grass growth throughout the course. Layout fantastic.
Improvement
Played here this past weekend and the course has really shown improvement. There are still 3-4 greens needing repair, but overall, the course is good. Fairways have strong grass growth, chipping areas have grown in nicely and the traps have been manicured to what they should be. It’s clear the new super has standards and an eye for detail. Hopefully the progress continues. If you haven’t been here in a while, give it a try again.
Ownership Issue
Ive given this course many chances, but the owner, Mirek, has either 1) no idea how to run a business, 2) no idea how to run a golf course 3) is cheap and does not provide a budget to his staff to properly maintain a course or 4) all of the above. Since he took over the course has seen a steady decline...for every improvement, there is a step back and a new excuse why...equipment issues, staffing issues, etc. The one thing this course doesnt lack is excuses why its in such poor shape. The only constant is the owner. Here's hoping he sells the course to a golf team who truly cares about restoring a gem of a course.
Front nine horrible back nine better needs lots of work pity one of Floridas most talked about courses hope it gets back to the way it was before
Only play this course if you can get a hot deal for $21.99!
Only play this course if you can get a hot deal for $21.99! That's all it's worth in its current condition.
On the way back?
I played this course 20 to 30 years and it was always in excellent condition and great variety of holes so I was looking forward to playing it again. Sadly it appears to have been neglected, some greens were full of green painted sand, weeds growing in fairways and bare patches. However, I spoke to the new superintendent who was out watering a green and he’s fired up to bring the course back to its former glory, good luck sir, this course should be saved.
This course is very patchy and dry
This course needs help!! The price and course
have dropped! This course use be one of our favorites it continues get worse.
Total Mess
Last time I played 3 weeks ago I was told the bad greens on the Front would be coming back. Well I played yesterday and there is no way those bad greens are coming back, there is no sign of life on the bare spots, just dirt, close the front and redo them! Some areas have been roped off but no visible signs of fixing them? What is up with the Dirty Beer glasses? The owner/management seem to have to pride in anything!
Sad display for a course
1st 10 hole were absolute trash. Greens not even playable. The front nine should be closed and have everyone play the back nine twice to get the greens back into condition. No cart person and the window atvthe turn not open but did have 2 ladies sitting behind the bar doing much of nothing. The course is continuously going down hill. Sad to see.
Hometown course
Let me start by saying I’ve played this course over 15yrs now. I’ve seen it’s ups and downs. I’ve always enjoyed playing here (mainly because it’s less than 10min from my house) and have seen it in a lot better shape than it was when I recently played but I will say I’m starting to see good improvements on the course. The greens on the back 9 and starting to look pretty good. Front 9 still needs work and pretty rough but keep up the good work and improvements! Hopefully you get it back to where it was and more people will start to come play here again. Also, if I didn’t get the hot deal rate, no way I would pay $50+ to play a round here.
Give it a little while and come back trust me. It was easily 5 times worse than this 3 months ago, since then they have gotten different greenskeepers I have been told. It's coming back.
