Victoria Hills Golf Club
About
Victoria Hills Golf Club located in Deland has jaw-dropping beauty. Golfers will appreciate Roland Garl's vigorous bunkering, which oscillates between the expansive and the intricate, depending on the hole. An array of pot bunkers, waste bunkers, native wetlands, water sprays, bunkers integrated within a natural setting, and elevation changes rarely seen on a Florida golf course await you. Garl's course is graceful and feminine
Victoria Hills could easily be called "The State of Florida's Garden of Golf,"- inland settings such as this are virtually unprecedented in this state. Yet while the splendor and natural beauty of the property are notable, this is not simply eye candy and lazy golf. Victoria Hills, as one player put it, "is a blast to play". In any evaluation, it's difficult to imagine how a golfer would not rate a round here as one of their most enjoyable in Florida.

Disappointing round of golf
The greens on the front 9 were bumpy and full of crabgrass. Sand traps were EVERYWHERE. I played this course in the past and the conditions were much better. We come from Eustis, and to make that drive for these conditions was not worth the trip. I won't be back, and my three playing partners agree with me.
Good bad ugly
The good is the friendly staff and restaurant. The bad is the fairways washed out and tee boxes off camber without grass. The UGLY are the greens on the front 9
Where's the grass?
Looks like a great venue, gone down hill. First 9 had very poor greens with sanded greens and little to no grass. Fairways had lots or bare sand washes. Tee boxes were mostly sand and few were level. I drove from Orlando past 5 far better courses. Loved the Staff and pro shop / restaurant.
Seen Better Days
This course continues to decline. The problem lies solely with the Owner/Management. I play once in a while here because it is close and regret it each time. Conditions just keeping getting worse. Now they have roped off huge areas of the course but absolutely no evidence they are fixing these areas which is bizarre? These huge areas are ruts, holes, no grass, how about filling them in smoothing them out and seeding or plugging the bare spots? The front nine is so bad they need to close it for months to fix it and let it grow in. Not sure what is on some of the greens but it some sort of caked waste that makes putting a challenge as is chipping on bare spots and ruts. This course could be a gold mind if it was properly maintained but many of us prefer to drive 30 minutes to New Smyrna which has courses in good shape, too bad. Best news this course could provide would be - UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT.
No Grass
Always loved the layoff and the design. HOWEVER , there is NO grass on the fairways or greens. I would recommend not playing this course till they invest some money in fertilizer!!
Hire a groundskeeper
Played here 15 years ago and enjoyed the course and layout. Played today and it is arguable the worst course conditions I’ve ever played. I’m not sure what was worse, the hard pan in the middle of the fairway or the rolled, punched and painted dirt they call greens. Save your money $55 and go somewhere else. Find a pasture and put a flag in. Better value
Needswater,needs grass.No greens speed consisrency.
Great course in terrible condition.
What a shame! This used to be such a beautiful course. Now I would have to put in the top ten worst courses I've played. There's no grass in the fairways and the greens are terrible (especially on the front nine). But the clubhouse restaurant and staff are great.
where's the greens
On vacation from ohio, ready to golf, the front 9 greens had no grass, was told they painted them. SUCKED
play was super slow, but the staff were friendly. believe once get greens figured out, looks to be a very nice course
Rough but has potential to be so much more
The staff was great. The greens non-existent on front 9 some grass on back 9. Plenty of bunkers. The surroundings are beautiful. Hopefully it will change because it has the potential for so much more
Don't go for a while
Front nine greens severely damaged from overwatering. Back nine are fair.
Turf is thin throughout the course with many bald spots.
Oddly, the bunkers were all raked though they were more dirt than sand.
Play hot deal if you can get one but otherwise skip until bona fide improvements can be verified.
Improvement
The front nine is in poor condition on both fairways and greens. What could be a great nine is essentially a practice nine. The back nine is the saving grace of the course. I played the course over January and February but the front nine did not improve. A couple of years ago it was a fabulous course. Shame on who let get in this condition.
Vic Hills
This used to be a good course years ago. The course has experienced neglect and the care to maintain the rating it used to have. The condition of the greens and fairways on the front 9 holes are in terrible condition. The others are in decent condition and rebounding back. Its shameful seeing courses in terrible condition when the patronage has been high since the covid years. The damage was not due to weather as there are other courses putting the care and maintenance into it and are looking good.
