The Eagles Golf Club - Lakes

The last time I played the Eagles I was very disappointed. This time the day was much better. It may have been because it was much drier, but the greens were better and the pace was good. I’m anxious to try the Forest course. The course still had some rough patches but were overall better.

I have been playing in the Tampa area for the past 5 years almost twice a week minimum. There are dozens of courses that you will be happier at. This place has rude staff, is hardly ever in good shape, and charges more than better courses in the area. Average price I pay here after tax is over $80. Definitely not worth that. There is nothing special about this place. Mediocre course conditions, layout, and they don’t fill water coolers. Again there are just so many better options out there. Fox Hollow and TPC Tampa are both nearby and about 20 times better for the money.

Three staff members told me the greens were in "great" shape and "rolling fine". So I paid $80 and started my round with some friends. The greens were patches of dirt and recently punched. They were so bad we had to agree as a group that you were allowed to move your ball to find a grass pathway to the hole. After employees flat lied to me and charged $80 for a $20 course, I won't be back. You should skip the greens entirely and have a putting contest in the parking lot after your round. The old asphalt is smoother.

I played the Lakes on Sunday 9/10/23. Suffice it to say if I had paid $79+ after tax, I would be asking for a partial refund due to these course conditions.

 Approximately half of the greens had dirt patches. Not places with thin grass coverage, mind you. I’m talking brown dirt with sand and zero grass.

 On one green my ball came to rest on a patch of weeds, on the putting surface!

 One green had ridges throughout. These were not related to aeration, we’ve all seen aerated greens. My playing partner said it looked like a Ruffles potato chip.

 There were also several fairways with large bare dirt patches throughout.

 Many fairways also had large amounts of weed patches throughout as well.

 The bunkers were in a horrible state. It was obvious that the course got rain on Saturday, they were cart path only all day and there were many soggy patches. That being said, these bunkers simply seemed too bare, as if they didn’t have enough sand in them at all.

This facility has two courses. I will not be playing this course again.

This used to be one of the best buys around. Course is in terrible condition. Not sure what happened or when, but would not recommend.

$83 round to play cart path golf and puddles all over the course. All greens had thousands of raised dirt due to the rain the night before. Staff was friendly but wouldn’t have paid over $50 for the round.

I cannot believe the state of this golf course. $75 in the summer and 95% of the fairways were dirt. Most of the greens were awful. They should be ashamed to charge more than $20 to play this dog track. The staff was openly mocking customers when checking in. Just an absolute joke all around. They had a tournament about to start after we started. I cannot imagine what those people thought.

Now, they are just bad really bad, and they are not cheap either.

Issues:

Pace of play, its is just bad, extremely bad, we stop going about a year ago, because of how bad the pace of play is, you add to it, that so many people think they can just play golf, they play ftom tge tips they can’t get off the tee box and you has to wait until they hit 3 to 5 balls each,

They dont let you play through there are 3 groups waiting on each tee box.

We were a 2 some and it was brutal, we actually jump in front of 3 groups, they went to the bathroom, just to get stuck behind 4 old ladies that really had no business being out there, they couldn’t hit the ball off the tee box, we waited for 15 minutes and just decided to just leave.

We have not been able to complete a round in this courses neither of then, in almost 2 years.

Conditions:

Bad just bad, tee boxes are just dirt

Greens are not good, fairways a mix of dirt and patches of grass.

I would not recommend this courses to anyone until someone does something about the courses and the pace of play.

Used to play this course regularly but never again. The Twilight price of $40 even felt like a ripoff. Half the fairways were literally sand; the ones that weren’t had massive weeds dotting everywhere. The roughs hasn’t been mowed in a month based on the height of the weeds. Half the tee boxes were sand. What happened to this course?!

The fact they still charge $75 for morning tee times is an outrage. The $20 Par 3 course down the road is in better condition!

So disappointed. This place used to be great, but I was shocked about how bad the tee boxes, fairways and greens are on the Lakes course. I had some out towners in for work and took them here on a whim and I was embarrassed we played there. I would say avoid at all costs and definitely do not pay full price.

Needs rain and better grounds keeping but Overall if you can pay under 40$ it's OK. If paying full price look elsewhere right now.

Great course, friendly staff. Mike the starter was very friendly . Pace of play was a little slow, sonetimes waoted behind 2 grpups on tee..atarter dod tell us aomething abput a car wreck in the entrance ? Will see if it's better next time . Will be back to try again.

Booked a 10am tee time and the 1st tee box was stacked up. Found out they were booking tee times 3 minutes apart. Horrible! Tee boxes were uneven sand pits. Weeds in the middle of the greens. Huge disappointment. Buffalo chicken wrap was pretty good though.

Took my father to play the Lakes course for the first time in several years. Very disappointed in the conditions of the tee boxes. Most were very uneven and had holes or big divots that have not been repaired. The cost to play was way too much for the condition of the course. The positive part was the greeting at the car when we first arrived and the early start we had so we didn’t have to wait to play. Otherwise, not worth the costs to play.

On a side note, very unhappy with the restaurant inside. We tried to have lunch afterwards but we sat at the table waiting on a server for almost 10 minutes while three guys were at the bar being helped. We got up and left.

They we running over 40 minutes late for tee times. No explanation. The course was in terrible condition. We took 2 hrs to play the first 4 holes. I left after 9 brutal holes and will never return. The “pro” in the shop could not have been more unprofessional. Sad

Upon arrival I was greeted by a older grump who said he did not have any carts yet for my tee time. They had an outing and over booked. He put my bag on the ground. This happens all the time here. We waited 30 minutes past the tee time to get a cart (dirty) then waited again to tee off, now 50 minutes past our tee time. The course was dry and patches of the fairway were dirt. 5 hours later we made it to 18. Nightmare beware, go somewhere else that doesnt overbook.
