Greens looking good
This course has always been fun to play! They put in new greens a while back and they are coming in nice now! GolfNow rocks
Very challenging golf
The greens were very fast. The course was in decent shape considering the recent rain. Overall it's a very challenging course for an average player like me with lots of varying slope positions.
Beautiful, challenging course
Played in 48 degree weather in December so course was brown and hard packed, with greens slick as a pool table. Nonetheless the course is a beautiful layout with visibly stunning and challenging holes.Want to come back to play it in spring and summer.
Tough but fun track.
First time playing here. It is December so it is hard to tell but course was in good shape for December. Course played pretty long from the back. Layout made you hit some different tee shots or approaches from time to time. Really fun place to play if you like to play strategic golf. Staff was nice. Looking forward to coming back.
Great course
Awesome time....course in very great shape. I was glad I was able to get out and finally play this course.
Go long, you'll enjoy it
I have been wanting to play Preserve for years and finally got it done. Course conditions were good, nice greens, but a but muddy in spots, not interfering significantly with play. It's not as tight as I perceived. Course is long and you'll have to make up-hill approaches and carries. A fair test of your abilities.
Course great... weather not
Course was in great shape, greens are very good since they replaced them. It is a very challenging layout with a lot of elevation changes and uphill approaches to greens. It is also a very tight course through the woods that rewards accuracy. When we played it was very soggy from recent rain. After 8 holes and a rain shower they went from 90 dEG to cart path only. This results in a lot of walking and this is a VERY hilly course and I cursed Davis Love III as the tee boxes seemed to get further from the cart path on the back 9. In the future I would only play here in dry conditions when I can get the cart out in the fairway to chase my shots. Overall I really like the course a lot but is a challenge so be prepared.
Always my go to course as the staff and conditions are great!
The Preserve has always been a great choice in the area. The conditions provide for a round that is fair and very playable anytime of the year.
Going to miss this
Really concerned this is probably one of Davis Loves most beautiful courses that is taking a hit in bad times really feel that the community needs to step to the plate after all their property values are at risk they need to get involved employ better staff people that want to work and have pride sometimes you can find a lot of willing retirees that we just love to have some of those jobs all they need is a good deal and a little training with a flexi schedule I've seen this working in Europe also a good manager to coordinate
Great round
Course was in great shape. Although it looks like they're getting ready for punching the greens.
Fun course to play
Great course, played this course from the blue tees, was very enjoyable for an intermediate player!
Always Challenging
Have played The Preserve several times and have always considered it the most challenging course in the triangle area of NC. The bunkers, layout, and terrain always require golfers to be on top of their game (the twosome we were paired with almost ran out of balls). The course is usually in great shape and offers a variety of tough holes. An enjoyable course to play unless you are looking to lower your handicap.
Great value
Staff was great. Price was good. Some greens were patchy but otherwise great shape.
Bad Design
This course just stays too wet. If it rained within the last 2 months, it is guaranteed to be a swamp. The course is tough overall, which I like, but just can't get past the layout of it. Skip and go play Chapel Ridge or something else in the area.
Best Local Course I have played so far
Great course....the greens were a little bumpy on the front but the back 9 was perfect. Cant wait to go back.
The condition of the course was fair
The fairways and greens need to be repair.
#3 green is a travesty.... but a great course otherwise
I'm sure most of the holes will be much better once the bermuda gets going. But the greens are bumpy and slow, and in very poor condition. Fairways were very healthy and nice. Some tees were great (1,2,4,5,8,9), others were in poor shape.
I only played the front nine because it took me way too long to play 9 holes. I'm a 5 index, and was hoping to get around in 3.5 hours. I caught up with the crowd on #6, and all hope was lost.
I love this course from the back tees!!!! I've probably played this course 20 times, beginning in 2007 or so. Its a very hard course, and I really enjoy that.
But the third green is a travesty. It always has been, even with the bentgrass greens. There are very few reasonable pin positions on that green, because the slopes are too severe. With the firm/fast bermuda greens, its even worse. Plus, there is little air movement at the green, so the green ALWAYS suffers. Yesterday it appeared that a huge portion of the front of the green was dead. Not dormant, but DEAD. (I play golf in the southeast, I know the difference.) Someone needs to take that green seriously. It won't get any better in its current position. I drew something up as an example of an alternative green position (attached). They either need to cut down a BUNCH of trees around the green (unlikely given the homes on both sides) or move the green forward. And this isn't sour grapes from me... I actually birdied it yesterday with a 4-iron and a downhill 12-footer. Thankfully the pin was cut way in the back, in the "live" part of the green.
The tee on #6 is also a wreck. Cut some trees down next to the tee, get some air movement in there. I literally teed up my ball on top of a patch of algae. No surprise that the back of the tee is covered in algae... its damp, there's no air movement, and its 80 degrees.
Bunkers need some work also. Very firm, lots of rocks. True hazards. :)
Jordan
Great layout. Difficult . Lots of forced carries and narrow. Not too good for beginners. Starter was really friendly and pro shop not so much.
Nice layout, challenging course, but slow pace
As my title suggests, the course layout was great. The Preserve is a challenging yet forgiving course. My only issue is that I paid $45 which I feel was a bit too high considering two things; the pace of play, and the green conditions. The greens on the back 9 were better, but on the front 9 they were horrendous. Overall it was playable, but tough and inconsistent. I think with a bit more upkeep/focus on the greens, and a more spread out tee time schematic, this course would yield a 5 star rating.
