good course
This is a very respectable course, good conditions and good layout. the only thing is that the new greens need some growing, they were a little bumpy but with time they will be good. overall great course
Great Course
The new greens have been open for a couple of weeks now and they're really starting to come around. They were rolling nice and smooth but still not quite as fast as I was expecting (yet, anyway).
The rest of the course was in great shape, save for the 18th fairway which has a drainage issue. If you haven't played here yet, definitely try it out. It's a nice challenge. If you have played here before, go check out the new greens.
New Greens will be great
Great Track. New Bermuda greens starting to fill in nicely. Still a little bumpy. Needs sand in the sand traps- down to dirt in many cases.
Best course to help you improve your game!
Overall, one of my favorite courses in the Greater Raleigh area. Presents opportunities to hone your game with the left to right, and right to left sloping fairways.
New greens firming up! Disappointed that hole 3 was still a temporary green!
A course that I will continually come back and play!
Very challenging
Discounted fees due to Temp Greens. When the greens are finished from their renovations, this course will be awesome. Novices can play this beautiful, challenging course, but bring plenty of extra golf balls, because it seems like each hole has something that will consume them (creeks, woods, ponds, very tall thick grasses or a steep slope that can funnel your ball into any of the aforementioned hazards). I would play it again in a few weeks when the greens are done, late August or September.
Update: Preserve at Jordan Lake Temporary Greens
On June 22nd The Preserve transitioned to temporary greens. As we began the process of converting to new Champion Bermuda turf, part of the preparation process for this conversion was to fully eradicate any existing turf prior to planting. This caused golfers to think we had lost our greens unintentionally but in reality it was part of the process.
Things players can expect on their visit with us:
1) Temporary greens but amazing fairways
2) Very friendly staff in all departments
3) Yardages are provided to players for the temporary green distances.
For full details please read below about our renovation:
During this process the greens became drier and firmer every day, all the way up until our plant date which was at the end of June.
The green renovation to Champion Bermuda greens has begun and we are right on schedule for us to reopen between the end of August or early September. You can see the greens are getting greener and we plan to perform our first mowing next week. Many families have come out to The Preserve to capitalize on the price break of $20 which includes cart per player. This is a great way to get some of your friends or family members interested in the game of golf. Others have utilized this opportunity to 'practice' their game on the golf course instead of the range.
The golf course is in amazing shape and our staff and Members have been very excited to play on the temporary greens for a change. Feel free to call us at 919.542.5501 or shoot me an email if you have any questions about our renovation or our golf facility. Justin Malone, PGA Head Golf Professional jmalone@traditionalclubs.com
Lovely course (even with temp greens).
Really enjoyed playing this course for the first time. They have temporary greens for the summer and they were not great but the course overall is very nice. I will definitely book again.
Course Under Renovation
I knew about the temporary greens so that wasn't a surprise. The course is in decent shape aside from the greens and was good for working on tee to green skills. The temp greens are pretty unusable for actual putting, I kept score by just adding a 2-putt when I reached the green. The course is really short to the temp greens so if you've got any distance off the tee playing from the tips makes sense. The prices while the greens are under repair are low but just realize you will be just working on your game and not shooting the round of your life. It's a great, challenging course and should be again when the greens are done.
Great design, good condition
Played over 4th of July weekend and although course had temp greens, you could tell course has an excellent design. Few holes with water, but plenty of challenges. Would play again.
My buddy didn't like it as much, but then again he didn't win that day...
Under Repair or Remodeling
All greens of 18 holes are under repair or remodeling and temporally greens are created average 80-100 yards before the regular greens. No. 3 hole, par 3 is even closed and they didn't let me play. And the temporal greens ware very bad condition with rough surface without any good green maintenance. They were not golf green, but just grass as a house yard. So The green fee pre-paid at internet was for 17 holes, No body told me until coming to the pro-shop for start. No comments, no notice, no warning or nothing was on the tee time entry site. It was terrible.
Hard but Great Coarse
The greens are being ripped up and replaced so they were pretty dead but can't wait to see this coarse with the new greens. It's challenging, beautiful setting and large clubhouse...all around great place to play.
Course should be closed
They are currently in the process of redoing every green and have temporary greens on 17 holes. I did not see this on golf now when I booked the tee time. I don't have any problem with their choice to do this but there is just no reason to keep the course open. The temporary greens are useless. Don't spend your money, waste of time...On a side note, they said they would email me vouchers for what I paid so we'll see if they follow through. If they don't, I'm done with this course.
We have reopened Hole #3 and now have 18 holes available for play. Thank you for letting us know about your experience. Could you send me an email at jmalone@traditionalclubs.com to discuss other details about your visit with us?
Do NOT Play Here Anytime Soon
I'm so disappointed in The Preserve and golfnow.com. I show up to the course yesterday with a client and get sheepishly asked by the guy in the proshop, "Did anyone tell you about our greens?" Assuming they had been punched, I asked what he meant. It turns out that they have intentionally let them die (please see attached photo) and are replacing them with championship bermuda in a few weeks. Nowhere on golfnow.com was it listed that this course was under repair (it shouldn't even be open). Do not play here until the fall when the place will hopefully be back to the level it once was. For the record, I have played The Preserve 20+ times over the years and it is a great track. Just save yourself the trip and money for now.
great course in need of new greens
My only downside to the course was the fact that I traveled 45 miles to play the course only to find out once I got there that the greens were 2 weeks away from being redone and they had apparently completely let them go they were more brown and dry and cracked than the Sahara desert and rolling around 13 to 14 ft. on the stimpmeter. I believe it would be in their best interest to add a warning such as the aeration warning to the course until the new greens have been installed and are in good form.
Save your gas!
I had a few friends that played the course a few years back and highly recommended it! Unfortunately the greens are under repair and have cracks up to 10 feet and an inch wide that I've never seen on any grass, much less a highly recommends golf course. There are many great course in triad/triangle area that put this one to shame so save your gas!
New greens are coming
I've played this course a few times over the years and I always enjoy the challenge. The course overall was in pretty good shape, however they are planning to replace their greens with bermuda in July. The greens now are rolling pretty well, but have many dead spots in them and people just don't repair their ball marks so some of them look like swiss cheese. Obviously this isn't a huge deal as they are planning to rip them out and put brand new ones in. Despite this the greens ran fairly well (maybe around 9 or 10 or so is my guess) and fairly true. The fairways were actually in really good shape for the most part which is something I can't say about other area courses. There are some gimmicky holes which aren't my favorite including a hole where I hit 6 iron/sandwedge into a green on a par 4 and a par 5 that doesn't allow for it to be a two-shot hole due to a limited distance allowed on the tee shot, but overall it's a pretty course and fairly challenging as well.
Love this course
They are about to change out the greens but still in awesome shape. Awesome practice facilities and fantastic layout. Can't wait for champions Bermuda. May be too fast with slopes in greens. They should probably reshape them. Think they change them on 6/22/15
great round
Overall great round of golf. Course is almost always in great shape and is just challenging enough to not be boring but not so challenging that it ruins your day. The course is a little on the pricey side but the do give specials that make it more than affordable as long as you are willing to play off peak hours. The only downside is there is no one to help unload your clubs and every time I have played there the driving rage is irons only, which kind of contradicts its name.
Rain shortened
Course is pretty in scenery and challenging for a novice golfer. The sky opened up half way through the round and the course had some trouble dispensing the runoff. Had to shorten our round but the clubhouse staff was very accommodating. Look forward to going back and playing the back 9.
The Preserve at Jordan Lake has opened Hole #3 which makes 18 holes available for play. Our temporary greens are Bermuda 419(Common Fairways in the Carolinas). We have been hand mowing our temporary greens slightly below a 1/2 inch in height. The longer we are on the temporary greens the smoother they will get and the lower the height of cut will be. I do apologize you didn't see any indication of our golf course being on Temporary Greens. We do have the indicators on Golfnow, our personal website, and in the booking confirmation notes on Golfnow. I hope you will come back and check out our Brand new Champion Bermuda greens when we reopen. Our planned reopening will be between end of August or early September.
