Great Layout
I really enjoyed my round at The Preserve. Staff were friendly and courteous, the practice facility was very good. Large grass range, putting and chipping greens.
The setting of the course is beautiful. Although there are homes to one side of the fairway on nearly every hole, the course still manages to portray a secluded feel.
I played the back tees and found the layout to be outstanding with a mixture of long, medium and shorter par 4's. Many par 4's and 5's demanded some strategy off the tee. Whether it be a dogleg or the fairway running out or a demand upon placement to one side of the fairway, pulling driver was not always the prudent play. The par 3's, although not crazy long, offered challenge and were fun to play.
The greens putted true but were a bit on the slow side. Although it didn't affect play, they looked a little rough. Many unrepaired ball-marks. I found myself repairing a few per hole. Stationary fans were operating on many holes. The yardage markers appeared to be spot on as they always aligned with my GPS' reading. New home construction is underway and on a few holes it was kinda loud. Didn't bother me but I think anyone looking to play should be aware.
Overall, a very challenging course with great visual appeal. I'll very much look forward to playing it again.
Labor Day Round
Great holiday round out with my wife. Great staff and facilities. Only complaint would be we felt rushed by the group behind us. The foursome in front of us were playing extremely slow, and the group behind us were hitting within 10 yards of where we were playing from after we got going. This flustered my wife because she is learning the game and was feeling rushed.
Tough course that's a little gimmicky. Decent value.
I hadn't played The Preserve in a couple years until recently. I remembered it being pretty tough and gimmicky on several holes. After playing it more recently, my opinion hasn't changed. There are some really nice holes and then there are some that just don't make sense and the design looks really forced. This course is one which you really need to play with someone who has local knowledge as the elevation changes off the tee, hazards running through middle of landing areas, and oddly placed bunkers, make for really hard to judge tee shots. The condition of this course is slightly above average. Some of the tee boxes and greens need a lot of work. Most of the fairways were good but there were a few bad spots in them. This is definitely a course you want to ride and not walk as there are major elevation changes on nearly every hole and large distances from green to next tee. The starter and club staff were very nice however so it's got that going for them. Overall, I think I'd rather play Finley or Chapel Ridge if I were going to play in this area.
Good Conditions
Course is in very good condition. Greens were a litte fuzzy but the area had tremendous rain tow days prior.
What a great course
I am never disappointed by the Preserve. Challenging holes which require shotmaking skills. Lots of elevation changes test your flexibility. Short-hitters will be bothered by the large waste areas that bifurcate the fairways, no rolling the ball to the green in 3 or 4 shots. Staff is courteous and professional without being stuffy. Someone waited by the 18th green to clean my clubs while we finished putting. I don't think I ever saw that at a public course.
Great Course.
Always a great course. Greens were a bit chewed up, but that is expected with recent rain and excess recent play on the course, plus the tee time after 2 pm. Always a pleasure!!
Friendly place, high quality facility
This golf course is very very nice, well-maintained and has a very nice staff . I've played this course at least four times and every time I have gone there I've had a very pleasant experience.
Worth traveling for
Came down from Northern Virginia with a couple friends to play with our buddy who moved here a couple years ago. Outstanding layout. Tees, fairways and greens in great shape. Staff was super in every aspect. Beautiful golf course. Plenty challenging and rewarding.
Would also like to give special acknowledgement to Jeff Fisher and his entire bar / kitchen staff. I left my cell phone at the bar. When I realized it we were on our way back to the D.C. area. I called them and they had it securely stored. They sent it to me in protective packaging. Great people at a great place.
Will definitely make the trip to play again.
Father's Day Gift at the Preserve
For my Father's Day gift, my son took me to The Preserve at Jordan Lake for a round of golf. Having never played the course we found it in good condition and a challenge no matter which tees you chose. A course that makes you think and use all the clubs in your bag. Will play it again.
The Tradition at the Preserve
Upon arrival, 45 minutes prior to our scheduled tee time, we were informed the driving range was closed so no proper warm up was to be had; a disappointment to say the least. The practice putting green was useful and did provide a true indication of the speed of greens throughout the course. The tee boxes had recently been punched but proved no problem. This "Davis Love III Signature" course is an Audubon International Certified Sanctuary Golf Course. The hazards are often forced carries so playing the correct tee set is imperative to a "Good" round. My playing partner and I choose the white tees and were very happy we did as we both shoot in the mid 80s. We were able to set out earlier than our tee time and followed a foursome who were members. We never waited but rather tried to keep pace with the group ahead. That goes to show course knowledge is important here as there are a few 'blind' shots and carries over the "sanctuary" areas. We played at a good pace and finished in four hours and fifteen minutes, a quick pace for a course of this caliber. However this is not a course to walk unless you have all day and do not mind great distance from green to tee box. (I might have walked it 30 years ago but not now that I'm in my 60s) The lay out covers a rolling landscape of Piedmont North Carolina and is quite beautiful to see, take time to turn around and look behind you, the views are just as breath taking in each direction (we had three deer walk across the third tee just as we were about to hit, lovely sight at 9 am). If you have an opportunity to play The Tradition Golf Club at The Preserve at Jordan Lake (proper name) do it and enjoy the experience. The staff will treat you as a member and the day on the links will be as memorable as you choose to make it.
Great Experience
The Preserve was in great shape and was a joy to play. Would certainly look to play again in the near future. Must play for this area.
Great course for the price.
The preserve is a challenging course that is well maintained. It has a few very fun holes that require technique over power. I would recommend this course highly and I plan on returning.
Challenging but Fun and Fair
Great layout with elevation changes and side hill lies from fairways. Greens were very good, rolling true and not too quick. Watch the false fronts on several of the greens. If you play from the proper tees, you'll enjoy your round.....if not, you will be punished!
Great Course
I have played her many times, and each time presents a new challenge. The layout is very strong, and differs greatly based upon tee box choice. The course plays long and is difficult. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. The course is always in great shape and fun to play. I recommend to all levels of player, just choose your tee box wisely.
Beautiful layout
The course was played the day after strong thunderstorms. Sand traps were being tendered to as they were washed out. Greens had lots of ball divots. No carts allowed off cart paths. This made playing a lot more difficult especially with distances and club selection as the course is very hilly. Absolutely beautiful scenery and deer everywhere. Highly recommended
Excellent golf course
Another challenging Davis Love golf course design with numerous forced carries over hazards. Makes you think on virtually ever shot(Yardage book is invaluable). Greens were in good shape considering the hot summer weather.
Beautiful and challenging course.
Went off on time and had no delays all day. The staff was very customer focused and helpful. I will play it as often as possible.
Looks are deceiving, that as easy as it appears, but great.
Excellent course, played once and knew I wanted to play once more with my friends from Md/Va. They enjoyed it.
Good course
Laved the layout and challenge, the tees and fairways were good and the greens were average. The greens were very slow and pretty choppy by 8:30AM, with no rain. Overall the course was good with a great mix of holes, just wish the greens rolled better.
The Preserve
This IS my favorite course in the Triangle, always my first choice when it comes to choosing a place to play. Its challenging, target golf with slick greens. You have to be on your game metally to score well here. It's also a great value.
