excellent day to play
Weather was perfect, got paired with a nice couple, was a little rushed by people behind us.
the greens were bumpy and had some mixture of green grasses on them which made a bumpy put. some of the fairways are eaten up by divets;
Don't play on Sunday afternoon
The course is nice and the setting is beautiful. However, the pace of play was horrible and the sand traps were what I'd expect at a muni-course. On the pace of play, we just drove off after almost 5 hours and only completing 14 holes.
Great layout...greens so-so
Played Good Friday around noon. Course very busy, parking lot full so had to park on road. No one groups fault but it was a long round, just over 5 hrs. Course layout is great, fairways in pretty nice shape for April. Greens very bumpy as some putts became airborne. Perhaps in a few weeks the greens will be back to normal.
Not a visually pleasing course.
This course, while challenging, is not visually pleasing in any way. Rarely do I play a course where no lines are evident from the tee. This course seems to have none. Also, despite dry conditions for several days, the course was soggy in spots.
Also, there are several holes where you play to a barranca running across the fairway, which is neither fun nor fair. All in all a poor experience.
Nice layout. Greens are still slow.
The course has matured into a challenging track. I guess it is the cold spring but the greens still haven't come back after aeration and they are extremely slow. I've played here when the greens were fantastic, but not in the last few years.
The clubhouse, food, and drink are very good and the staff is more than accommodating. Took 4 1/4 hours on a Friday morning which isn't bad at all. Definitely worth playing a couple times per year.
Keep it up !!
Thanks to the staff and crew at The Preserve. Was greeted by a staff member at the end of my round with inquiry as to my satisfaction. Had a brief discussion with the young man and when I went into the pro shop to inform them that this young man when above and beyond, the staff informed me that I had spoken with the new Head Pro for the facility. He was humble and seemed like a normal part of the staff setting up the range. Awesome example set by the top guy at the facility. Thanks again and I'll be out agan soon.
Good condition
Great course for the money. Great condition for early spring.
Great Value
Pleased to see that The Preserve is on golfnow and their prices have dropped. Fun golf course, elevation changes, some tight fairways and you use most if not all of the clubs in your bag. Enjoyed the day!!!
Course offered nice value
First time played in 2014. Unfortunately, played after a day of heavy rain so course was still very wet. Greens were aerated a couple of weeks earlier and has not smoothed out yet. Course has also been beat up by brutal winter and fairways were still bare. Nice value for today's round, but course not in the great shape its known for.
Fun Foursome on the 4th
Mix-up in tee time - Kathy fit us in (she is AWESOME!). C/P Only due to rain but did not damper the experience. Greens rolled true. A thinking man's course. Had a blast! Go play Jordan Lake!
Very Challenging, But I Love the Preserve
Course was in great shape, especially for this time of year and the greens were rolling really well...tough, but fair and we had a good time playing the course. I will definitely be back again to play, especially when the nice weather of the spring rolls around.
For January round, excellent shape.
For a January round, the Preserve was in great shape. For those who have played there before, there are always some areas that are soaked, but most of them were out of play. The greens rolled true, and the fairways were in good shape for winter. The tee boxes were rough in some cases, but overall, it was a great deal to play here.
This course was a waste of a nice day.
There was no starter or ranger on the course. The course was in terrible shape. Looked like they are going to lose several of the greens. The parking lot was full and we had to park on the street. When we came around for the back nine someone jumped in front of us. It was already 4PM so this slowed us even more and we didn't get to finish. Around 5PM a worker from the clubhouse came out in a SUV riding on the cart path telling everyone to come in. There were as many as a dozen groups that didn't finish their round. A ranger would have been helpful to keep groups on pace. We will not spend anymore money on this course. It was in the 70's this weekend and we wasted it on this course.
Challenging, but fun!
Our foursome played on a Tuesday in January with a starting time around noon. We had the course almost to ourselves and had a great time, finishing just before dark. There are some challenging shots, and we had to search for some balls in the woods and rough, but we all enjoyed the round. It's beautiful and serene, with lots of nice views. Even in the middle of January, conditions were actually quite good; fast, smooth greens. Some of the fringes had been re-sodded and were still growing in -- should be ready when the dormant bermuda starts to grow. Check-in was breeze and all the staff we met were very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.
Hard but chanllenging
Fare way is narrow and overall course need lot of strategy.
I can practice control shots and focus to shot accuracy.
Great choice in the Triangle
I have played here several times since relocating and have always been pleased. The staff is super friendly and always making suggestions on how to make my round better. This past week the front desk (course pro) was concerned because as a single I got paired with a group of members with sub-5 handicaps. She doesn't know me but figured I might be intimidated and offered a bag of range balls so I could fill my time to the next group. I've played as a single at a number of private and high dollar public courses and have NEVER been offered this type of service. Generally the starter tells me I need to go out immediately with another group or forgets about me for 45 mins and then sends me out alone - only to wait for every shot. I am a single digit handicap and can generally play with anyone, but it was nice that they gave me the option. I ended up playing with the members and had a great time and will very likely join the club.
The pro came up to me after the round to check in - once again this has never happened at any other club - and asked if I enjoyed the round.
This is a great course for golfers. The course is challenging with forced carries and uneven lies, but if you play the correct set of tees and play the course you should be good. There are several holes that I play an iron or 3 wood for placement rather than distance. The forced carries are "mental" rather and should easily be carried by anyone.
Beautiful setting
This course is in great shape albeit the dormant season. The greens were in fantastic shape!! Beautiful course, just hit it straight and you will do fine. Otherwise bring some extra balls.
Good value...fun course...bring balls...lol
The course was in fantastic shape except for areas around the green that had been recently sodded? Tough course that requires the golfer to not lose focus...greens can be tricky.
