The Shark's turned in what's widely regarded as the second-toughest course at PGA WEST - Greg Norman Course in La Quinta.

No small feat considering the developers of the neighboring TPC Stadium ordered Pete Dye to make it, "the hardest damn golf course in the world."

"There's a difference," said Jack Guevera, a golfer who's played both. "You might think you have it easy if you play the Norman after the Stadium .... But probably not."

Here's the difference: Dye tries to kill you at TPC Stadium. Norman only wants to beat you to a pulp.

Not that pummeling does not have its highlights. Norman's 216-yard, par-3 13th is the kind of hole that seizes your attention and lingers in memory after the round.

What little fairway there is curves around toward a man-made lake. It is also tilted down on a sharp angle to the water, giving the golfer the effect of hitting along a ledge.

Each shot is a tap dance here. You could not even get odds in Vegas on your chances of avoiding all of the deep, slanted bunkers that squeeze the mini fairway even tighter.

Great conditions

I was excited to play this particular PGA West course being that I’ve haven’t played the Norman design yet . The course was in great condition if there was one thing that I take took away from playing is that the greens were surprisingly playing on the slow side. It was a great day until finishing up on the 16th hole when the Marshal came up barking at us that we’re done do to lack of light. I understand that it was starting to get dark but he definitely could’ve used a friendlier approach . I felt like we were breaking the law or something.I might give it second chance .

Course was closed

I booked the tee time on golf now. When we got there course was closed. It was very disappointing on my early morning Christmas day. Golf Now or should not sell the tee time that the course not even open.

Too many golfers

The starter said they had about 200 golfers booked , waiting on every tee box . This was on a Wednesday so I’m sure the weekends are much busier !

I don’t recommend unless you have a lot of time and patience.

Less than ideal x-mas

Had a tee time for 11:15 on Christmas Day rolled in 1 hour early to find out the course was closed . Not a sole was there apparently the course had flooded 3 days prior but nobody emailed or notified me . Literally the only person there was the gate guard . Pretty disappointing to say the least had to scramble to find another place to play on a super busy day . Looked really nice while I walked around looking for a staff member anywhere in site though

PGA West Norman

Great track layout and greens are true, nice roll. Truly enjoyed game. Pace was good. Under by 12 mins.

2 big disappointments, however:

i) Range closed with no notice to us. We arrived 1.5 hr early to warmup. Course was closing next day for a month. Why close range.... in advance.?

ii) partly due to i) we ordered a drink from Clubhouse. USD 16 for a ceaser and 10 for bud light draft. ! Bit of a gouge.

Still in pretty good condition

The course is going into overseed very soon, but it's still in pretty good shape. Average condition at PGA West is still great. Really love the layout. Pace of play was OK even though the course was busy.
