The Shark's turned in what's widely regarded as the second-toughest course at PGA WEST - Greg Norman Course in La Quinta.

No small feat considering the developers of the neighboring TPC Stadium ordered Pete Dye to make it, "the hardest damn golf course in the world."

"There's a difference," said Jack Guevera, a golfer who's played both. "You might think you have it easy if you play the Norman after the Stadium .... But probably not."

Here's the difference: Dye tries to kill you at TPC Stadium. Norman only wants to beat you to a pulp.

Not that pummeling does not have its highlights. Norman's 216-yard, par-3 13th is the kind of hole that seizes your attention and lingers in memory after the round.

What little fairway there is curves around toward a man-made lake. It is also tilted down on a sharp angle to the water, giving the golfer the effect of hitting along a ledge.

Each shot is a tap dance here. You could not even get odds in Vegas on your chances of avoiding all of the deep, slanted bunkers that squeeze the mini fairway even tighter.

"Greg Norman wants you to choke," TravelGolf.com West Coast Bureau Chief Chris Baldwin said. "The supremely-talented, enthrallingly-entertaining golfer cursed to be forever remembered for his excruciating collapses wants the average hacker to experience just a taste of this misery."

Just OK

Still on cart path only due to late overseeding. No distinction between fairway and rough. Grass too long on fairway. Greens ok, very fast but hard. Pace of play was ridiculous- over 5 hours for a moderately challenging course. Waiting after every shot. Obviously allowed too many golfers on for the day. Marshall kept saying they were trying to get the groups moving but it did not work. Highly disappointing!

Golf at its Finest

We played a fabulous round at this interesting and amazing course yesterday. We had a slower foursome ahead of us but it didn’t deter our joy on this beautiful and well manicured course. The staff here is Amazing and Helpful. The course is challenging but fair. The terrain with the lush greens, and the feel of the outback bush along the outer edges provides a vast of array of visual effects. We loved the course and we give kudos to the entire staff in every area we encountered. Many Thanks. m

Great Course.

Beautiful course. Well worth the price for golfing in Palm Springs. Only issue was Cart Path Only because of recent mtce to the fairways. That slowed pace of play

Afternoon tee time good price

Nice course but couldn’t finish despite 12:64 tee time. Liked the overall course. Tough enough. Little advantage to red tees

Cart Path Only, beautiful course /5 hr round

The course was in great shape. The pace of play was painful, the round took 5 hours. I think it was a combination of a couple of groups combined with cart path only.

I would call in advance if you have trouble walking. To get a handicap pass you will need to provide a handicap placard.

Over rated

Fairways and collars were not mowed to a proper height. And we’re too shaggy… 5 hour round is not acceptable le. Rangers did nothing. Cart path onky didn’t help.

For $240 the course and pace of play is not worth it.

Great layout, but

Play this golf course several times always a premium golf course but not today. Fairways were long and hairy. The tee boxes were not mowed. It was cartpath only due to the over seeding was not completed. The people were very nice and apologetic for the conditions, but did not inform me of the conditions before booking my teatime. Did not offer any discounts for the conditions, and it took us five hours to play.

Unique desert layout for pga west but sketchy conditions

The desert Norman layout is unique for PGA West. I enjoyed the layout but the course was cartpath only since the overseed hasn't filled in. Fairways were very furry and due to cartpath only pace of play was slow. Not worth the price this time of year.

Fairways werfe brown and dry. Very disapointing after playing the Pete Dye Diunes course the previous day. We thought teh Greg norman course would be just as nice but that was not the case. I expected more from a PGA West course.
