Pumpherston Golf Club, designed by Graeme Webster, offers a superior golfing challenge, including water features over the length of the 6,000-yard, par-70 golf course and R&A-standard greens.

A round at Pumpherston Golf Club begins on Paraffin Young, a 398-yard par 4 that requires a straight drive and attention on hazards surrounding the green: bunkers right, deep rough behind. Hitters unpack long games on Pentlands, the 516-yard par-5 10th, which features a narrow fairway, requiring a straight tee shot; 150 yards from the green, the fairway drops, making a tricky approach. Close the round on Iranapol, another long hole, at 505 yards and par 5, and where water guards the green, meaning that length alone won't help you.

Book a seat in the Pumpherston Golf Club's clubhouse early - and let the clubhouse caterer know about any dietary restrictions, which the staff can work with - and head up for lunch and a drink with views of the golf course.

Pumpherston in windy conditions

Thought the greens were a bit in different in speed, would have helped with yardage markers at some of the dog legs as driver was not the club to use. Top tip ,drive up the 1st on the 18th , this makes the hole and easy par 5 and keeps the ball away from the water hazard

Great Summer

Although this has been a fantastic summer for golf i5 has taken it’s toll on most courses, Pumpherston included. However the greens are still holding up well. I like the layout of the course with a good variety of holes. Excellent club house with friendly helpful staff. Recommend you try it.

Still unsure of this one

Ok. I need to be fair and point out that the day before we played this course, there had been a down pour of rain and it was heavy. This course already had a reputation of being like a sponge and it certainly lived up to those expectations. The course was boggy and a huge amount of surface water in pockets just about on every hole. The majority of bunkers were filled (some completely) with water. They really do have an issue with the lack of natural drainage at this course. I can see now why in the off season, you play from fairway mats. The greens had just been spiked which was unfortunate but something to be put up with; their pace was good and they looked well maitained. The professional was friendly enough and the shop looked well stocked. We did not go into the club house but certainly, it is known as a decent venue so I'd expect it to be good. The course layout was not overly impressive although a few stand out holes. Most though seem to lack a bit of character and I doubt would be that challanging for a decent golfer (not me). Overall, I'm undecided about this course and feel like I should give it another go in better conditions. Was thinking about joining next year but need to reconsider given the possibility of water-logged conditions for parts of the year.

Very good course

This is a very good course to play on! It had been raining heavy the night before and there was no pooling or anyother signs of the water sitting on the course. The course is well laid out and chanllenging without being to hard to play. The only criticism i had was when we reached the 10th tee. A lot of players had started infront of us due to the first tee being busy this held up a lot on the back 9. Apart from that we really enjoyed playing this course

Good course

Course in really good nick. A few long walks from green to tee, really enjoyed the 2nd 9 holes, a very welcoming clubhouse and only let down by pace of play.

Thought provoking

Lother of holes which really make you stop and think about your club selection. Well placed bunkers and plenty of water hazards to contend with

Greens were a little bare but that is due to the lack of rain recently.

Poor weather
Walked

Good course but spoiled by condition of fairways

The weather has not been great over the last few days but it has not been that bad! The first (newer) 10 holes were in a very poor condition. Even though we were taking the balls to the sides of the fairways it was almost impossible to find a dry piece of ground to play from. The fairways were soaking wet and very muddy. Trousers, carts and clubs were filthy after the first hole. This was a shame as all the greens were excellent and holes 11-17 were in good condition. I have played this course in the summer and it is great fun with a number of really interesting holes but I would not recommend anyone to play it in winter.
