About

Holes 9
Type Semi-Private
Style Parkland
Par 75
Length 6129 yards
Slope 131
Rating 75.8

Golf World has called Gifford Golf Club "the best nine holes in Scotland." The East Lothian village of Gifford, half-an-hour from Edinburgh, features this parkland golf course with a view of the Lammermuir Hills. The course is suitable for new-to-the-game golfers as well as those with low handicaps.

Gifford Golf Club management recommends a maximum hour and 45 minutes to play nine holes - a 2,957-yard, par-35 run out, and 3,093-yard par-36 coming back. The par-5 ninth hole is a 473-yard doozie.

Course trivia: Gifford Golf Club began in 1904, when golfing Lord Tweeddale leased 50 acres of his family estate for a 5 pounds a year - "for the whole right and privilege of playing golf."

Gifford Golf Club

What a fantastic place.

Cozy little clubhouse when I entered. Nice welcome and was asked if I had been there before. I hadn't so the starter gave me info about the first couple of holes which helped me find my bearings. Good little snack menu available.

You really couldn't find a more tranquil and peaceful setting. Came across a few of the members on the course who were very polite.

Lovely course. I'm an average duffer but was able to get round smoothly and had a very enjoyable round.

Best 9 hole course I have played and will be back asap.

Great setting for a round of golf! A pretty looking course which is always kept in fantastic condition, the greens were superb! Staff and members are very accommodating, always feel welcomed. The obvious downside is with it only being a 9 holer, but that hasn't and won't stop me coming back

Fantastic course!

The course was very well maintained. From the tee area to the greens, the course was immaculate. Unfortunately the club house closed at 3pm, meaning that there was no opportunity to buy drinks when going around. The only issue is that the course a little pricey, even with the GolfNow discount, particularly given there are only 10 holes (We did play 18, but ultimately this was just the same 9 holes x2).

Great wee course

Great wee course in tremendous condition, clearly well looked after.

Only problem we had was noise from around the front of the club house when teeing off and also people speaking on adjacent holes... of course this isn’t a course problem but more a member problem. Clearly better etiquette would have been nice but some people are oblivious to their surroundings.

Would definitely play again and certainly recommend.

Great condition

As you would hope and expect at this time of year, the course was in beautiful condition, and greens were quality. No facilities open at the clubhouse which was surprising in the middle of the day.

Great days golf

Staff very helpful and pace of play was great, no issues with playing holes twice for 18 holes. Missed the 9th tee as shared with 18th so played the 18th then noticed where the 9th was on 2nd circuit so played that last.

Course in excellent condition and greens a good test. Good course for both beginners and for the low handicaps.

Will be looking to play again soon
