Gifford Golf Club
About
Golf World has called Gifford Golf Club "the best nine holes in Scotland." The East Lothian village of Gifford, half-an-hour from Edinburgh, features this parkland golf course with a view of the Lammermuir Hills. The course is suitable for new-to-the-game golfers as well as those with low handicaps.
Gifford Golf Club management recommends a maximum hour and 45 minutes to play nine holes - a 2,957-yard, par-35 run out, and 3,093-yard par-36 coming back. The par-5 ninth hole is a 473-yard doozie.
Course trivia: Gifford Golf Club began in 1904, when golfing Lord Tweeddale leased 50 acres of his family estate for a 5 pounds a year - "for the whole right and privilege of playing golf."

A great day out
My brother and I played Gifford golf course for the umpteenth time on Wednesday 20th November and, although freezing cold, we're rewarded with a well kept course and hospitable welcome in the clubhouse.
Fab round at Gifford
We were there as party of 4. Only one of us had played there before.
Weather was beautiful and the course in great condition.
We were made very welcome by the friendly staff and enjoyed a lovely lunch before play.
We will be back!
Great value
Don't overlook Gifford when planning your golfing trip to Scotland. Yes it's a 9 hole course but with separate tee boxes for some holes it's well worth it. The course was in great condition considering it was a pretty wet day the greens were in great condition. On arrival I was greated by a member of staff in the club house who told me everything I needed to know. Breakfast was available when I arrived at 8am and was reasonably priced. I played the first 9 holes with virtually the course to myself. The back 9 holes I joined 3 members to make a four ball they were super friendly and insisted I joined them it made the experience even better the knowledge of the course was brilliant and I brought out the best of my game. We also had a laugh after the round we had a coffee in the club house. We're everyone was super friendly. Overall a brilliant course and great value for money I will definitely play again when in the area.
Nice course
Nice course in good condition, friendly staff & players. Hope to teturn
Beautiful 9 Hole Course
First - it was a beautiful day! The course is in fantastic condition, greens true and pretty fast. It's not the longest course, but who really needs that! Still challenging with the burn running through it and trouble to be found. A nice touch is 3 of the holes use different tees on the back 9 - so you still get variation. Lovely spot in the foothills of the Lammermuirs. Great club.
Gifford Golf Club
What a gem of a wee course is Gifford Golf Club. From welcoming and support from staff to playing a wee lovely parkland kept course.
Perfect for a sunny afternoon
Gifford is yet another East Lothian golfing gem, perhaps not in the same league as its county’s more illustrious destinations, but set amidst the rural hinterland, off the usual tourist track, it weaves its way through leafy green woods, uphill and down dale and a little stream meandering through several holes, ready to catch the unwary. Not the longest track by any means but always interesting and pretty tight in places. A 9 hole layout, but several holes play from different tee on the second lap. Greens weren’t overly fast but perfectly true and in excellent condition. Stand out holes are the 2nd and the 8th (11th and 17th on the back nine) both of which make the most of the stream. We got 18 holes for £20. Hard to beat for value.
Gifford Golf Club
One of the best courses I’ve played in East Lothian.
The course itself is well maintained, would recommend to friends
Gifford
Course in Good condition speed of play dreadful late Friday afternoon paid for 18 walked after 9 to slow.
Great parkland course
Had an enjoyable round at this well maintained parkland course. 9 holes with some different tees on 2nd 9. Decent catering in clubhouse.
Hidden gem
This is a must play course, Excellent layout, some fantastic holes, The course was in absolute pristine condition , greens very undulating and tricky to read , Off the course the staff were very friendly as were the members , I’d throughly recommend this fantastic 9/18 holer ,
It's an absolute MUST, honest.
Before i go off on a rant about golf pricing in East Lothian, just play this course. It's a 'must play' on your tour. Yes, it's 9 holes, played as 18, but don't let that put you off. The back 9 is set up different to the front 9. Manicured fairways, above average green speed. Plenty of undulations on the greens, and pars/birdies are mitigated by well-positioned hillocks and bunkers. Clubhouse is tiny, but buzzing, full of genuine golfers, and a nice bloke called Andy who'll make your breakfast.
As for golf pricing on Scotland's 'golf coast', too many courses now pricing for the deep pockets of international golf tourists who pay for bragging rights. As a Scot who knows the golf in this area well, many of these courses are not worth the 3-figure price. Gifford, on the other hand, is huge value for money. Play it!
