The Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club bills itself as "the only golf resort in the local Edinburgh area." It makes a good base to reach other Scottish golf destinations. Dalmahoy is a top draw, designed by James Braid in 1927. It hosts upper-tier golf events and has featured names such as Greg Norman, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Lee Trevino, and Colin Montgomerie. Two golf courses sit on 1,000 acres of some of Scotland's most magnificent landscape, encircled by woods, waters and the Pentland Hills. Each offers unique tests for all levels of golfers.

Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course - site of the 2006-08 Scottish Senior Open and several Scottish PGA Championships - offers 18 holes and 7,475 yards of par-72 golf. A 2005 redevelopment of the course ran about $2 million. On Ye Go from the very first hole, as it is called, a monster of a starter, a par-5 that measures 532 yards from the blue tees.

Battle the Devil's Table, The Ha Ha and the marathon 605-yard par-5 Braids Brawest, and you'll reach Solheim, the final hole on the Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course, where you'll need to finish the day by clearing 460 yards in four strokes.

Dalmahoy

Great course to play during winter based on cost and on full fairways and greens. Although some greens hollow tunes. No mats required

Great course

Definitely one to play and the gentleman at the staters office offers great advice for first time players of the course and if you do listen to his advice you will save yourself 4 shots or more . For the ones that did listen pars for those that did not 6,s great course.

Top quality

Great facilities, practice area and golf courses. The only negative was the greens had been winter treated and tee move forward to poor grass patches.

terrible condition

I booked this course thinking it would be up to championship standards as it says on their website. I can assure you it wasn’t. I understand it is October and the weather isn’t great but that being said the greens are probably the worst I’ve ever experienced. full of sand, holes everywhere, it was un playable. this should have been mentioned on the website or at least upon arrival to make people aware of the situation or at least offer cut prices for the course. If I had knew the greens were in such bad condition I would have asked for a refund. I will not be back!!!

Dalmahoy East Course

I cannot fault anything, was a perfect day out for a guest who was hosting a visitor to Edinburgh. My only regret was I didn't allow time to use the other facilities as they looked great also.. I can't recommend Dalmahoy enough, will definitely be back.

Fabulous Layout and Condition

Our second time playing the East Course and it is still great. It was in excellent condition- tees, fairways and greens. The tight fairways, particularly in the back 9 stretch of 4 or 5 were really challenging in the wind but enjoyable. Beautiful setting on 1, 9, 10 and in particular 18 with the House right in front.

Doug, Scotland.

Very nice course in very good condition but as others have commented there are a lot of 400 yard par 4s which makes it a lot harder if not driving 250 yards consistently. Will return but expectations on scoring will be tempered.

Good Course/Too Long

Course was in good condition, especially the greens. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and as a two ball we moved along quickly in well under 4hrs. Was a good layout with some good par 3s and 5s. The main reason I didn’t give 5 stars is it was too long for an average golfer, especially the par 4s most of which were 390-425 yds. At just over 6600 and over 6000 from ladies tees it was too long. I’m a senior golfer with an 11 handicap and I just don’t hit my tee shots 275 -300 unless down hill and down wind on concrete. Most of the 4s were driver, fairway wood or long hybrid. My wife is a solid 15 but used to playing 700-800 yards less. Yes, the ball rolls further and for the ladies it was a par 75, but we all don’t hit it like Rory, and it ceases to be fun when it’s all driver then fairway wood just to get close to the greens. Golf is supposed to be a challenge, but fun for all abilities and this is a resort course. Simple solution here is to have one forward tee at around 5200+- and let players choose the best tee for their ability. This is an issue with a lot of courses in the UK and while some might argue that the reason we come play in Scotland is to be challenged , I believe to continue to grow the game it is important to make it enjoyable for all abilities.
