Rating 74.0

The Amelia River Club is located on Amelia Island, just north of Jacksonville and within minutes of the historic town of Fernandina Beach. Renowned as one of the best-conditioned courses in the area with incredibly smooth greens, sculpted around a forest of majestic Live Oaks, Sable Palms, Pines and Wax Myrtles.

This par 72 track, designed by Tom Jackson, plays to a yardage of 6,823 from the back tees. It's pristine condition features well manicured rolling fairways, smooth bunkers and greens that challenge all skill levels. This course is unique in character and is a treat to play.

The Amelia River consists of 18 holes of challenging golf where ball control and accuracy are keys to a great game. The fairways are wide and open, giving the golfer a sense of a traditional Scottish links course on some holes and a narrow tree lined experience on others. The 13th hole is a good example of the course’s challenges. This long par five runs along the border of the Fernandina Beach Airport and is a strategic three shot hole. Too long and left at lay up and you will have to deal with a water hazard. The wind can play havoc with this hole as it reminds one of an open links style design. In contrast #9 is a tree lined par four with very little room for error and includes a forced carry over Alligator Creek.

The signature 17th hole is a par three surrounded by water demanding an accurate shot to the island green which closely resembles another very famous golf hole in our area! The final hole ends at the edge of the Amelia River and its expansive tidal marsh.

Friendly check in and starter…. It ends there

Almost a 5 hour round….sooooo slow… the persons that checked me in and the starter were very friendly. U fortunately, I was paired with a couple members. After our cordial introductions, they acted like I wasnt there and constanly whispering to each other. Then the cart girl, came across her 3 times. She was very friendly to the members. But literally said nothing to me nor looked at ne and drove off. I guess I didnt need anything. Course conditions were below fair. The fairways were so short, you could have used a putter. Very difficult to get any lift on the ball. Greens were in fair condition but someone in the group ahead of us had steel spikes and left their calling card all over the greens. Tuffs of grass, pulled up turf and holes. Glad I didnt pay the $150+ pricing show on this app.

Its been in better shape

First off the pace was super slow. Almost 5 hours for 18 holes. I played with 2 members, they were cordial but didnt want to say much to me. That made for a longer day. The fairways were in OK shape but if they cut them any shorter it would be like playing in the sand or on a putting green. Very difficult to get under the ball. Cart girl was very friendly… to the members…. She showed up 3 times and each time she joked with the members and literally said nothing to me and would drive away. Guess I didnt need anything, thanks for not asking. Persons in the club house and the starter were very friendly. It went down hill from there.

Beautiful layout, poor conditions

I was very excited to play this course for the first time. The layout seemed beautiful and intriguing. Unfortunately, the conditions of the course were subpar. The greens, even though they rolled pretty true, were in terrible shape, they were patches of repaired greens and fringe. Also the tea boxes were also under repair with a lot of top dressing. The staff was friendly, and the pace of play was not bad. I just expected a little bit more from this course for the price.

First time playing this season. Played this course last year and wasn’t super impressed. They have made some significant improvements. Tee boxes are all in great shape. Last year many were pretty beat up.

There are a few areas around greens that have grass patches but nothing to deter one from playing

Hit the green with approach and not a factor

I will be back

Decent course, not worth the money

Course just doesn’t have the conditions you would expect for the price it is commanding. Tee boxes look like they should be the rough and the greens are slow.

Best course in the area

This was my first time playing this course today and I couldn’t have had a better experience. The layout was amazing, the conditions were flawless, and the scenery was beautiful. The course was challenging enough to keep low handicappers engaged, but not so difficult it would be unenjoyable for high handicappers. The staff were all very pleasant and the amenities were great. Wish I could play the course every day. I absolutely cannot recommend it enough.

Save your money

The layout was nothing special and the conditions were average at best. For the cost and being semi private I had reasonably high expectations and was extremely disappointed.
