About
The Amelia River Club is located on Amelia Island, just north of Jacksonville and within minutes of the historic town of Fernandina Beach. Renowned as one of the best-conditioned courses in the area with incredibly smooth greens, sculpted around a forest of majestic Live Oaks, Sable Palms, Pines and Wax Myrtles.
This par 72 track, designed by Tom Jackson, plays to a yardage of 6,878 from the back tees. It's pristine condition features well manicured rolling fairways, smooth bunkers and greens that challenge all skill levels. This course is unique in character and is a treat to play.
The Amelia River consists of 18 holes of challenging golf where ball control and accuracy are keys to a great game. The fairways are wide and open, giving the golfer a sense of a traditional Scottish links course on some holes and a narrow tree lined experience on others. The 13th hole is a good example of the course’s challenges. This long par five runs along the border of the Fernandina Beach Airport and is a strategic three shot hole. Too long and left at lay up and you will have to deal with a water hazard. The wind can play havoc with this hole as it reminds one of an open links style design. In contrast #9 is a tree lined par four with very little room for error and includes a forced carry over Alligator Creek.
The signature 17th hole is a par three surrounded by water demanding an accurate shot to the island green which closely resembles another very famous golf hole in our area! The final hole ends at the edge of the Amelia River and its expansive tidal marsh.

Improved Since Last Year
The course has had some recent improvements and it shows not only with the new Pro Shop but also out on the course. The price was also reasonable through Golf Now.

Over all fun course to play
Greens were average speed and in very good condition. I made 3 or 4 putts of > 20’.

Great Condition
The course is playing very well. The only problem right now is the wind coming across from the airport is gusting up to 30 miles an hour and is brutal.

Very Enjoyable Course
Played the course in two groups of 3. Challenging course with numerous water and natural hazards. Several hard blind doglegs with slopping fairways to keep you thinking about your shots. Greens rolled fast but true. The only Tee Box in bad shape was 17 to the island green but expected with the volume of wedge shots on the par 3 water hole. The term bad shape is a stretch as well given it still was very nice with lots of areas to hit from. Maybe add a sand repair box on that Tee as golfers must not be walking back to the cart to grab the sand supplied on the carts. All six of us in the group enjoyed the course and rated it higher than the King & Bear which we played the next day.

Nice Track, Beware of Hidden Water Hazards
We were very pleased with our overall experience at this course. Not overly long, but some holes were tricky. Layout is interesting with quite a few doglegs, lots of bunkers and hidden water hazards. A golf GPS on your phone/watch is essential if you’re unfamiliar with the course. Greens were quick. Pace was under 3 1/2 hours for our threesome with no waiting, which was great. Warmed up at the well kept driving range. Would have been nice to include range balls in the (relatively high) greens fee, though. Had a pretty good lunch at the restaurant. Ate outside viewing the driving range as the indoor part of the restaurant was under construction.

Course is currently in excellent shape, staff is always friendly and inviting. I had the first tee time so pace of play was no issue. Will definitely be back!

Interesting and Enjoyable Round of Golf
Played this course again after a couple years and a change in ownership. It was cool and windy which made for an interesting round. Pace of play was great and course was in good condition. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Some of the bunkers were without sand and there were a few rough patches on the fairways. Not bad considering all the rain in recent weeks. Best price as always was on Golfnow.com. Would definitely play again in the future.
