Gary - MVGC
… I could not play because it was closed due to storm damages (Helene). We had planned to play during our vacation roundtrip.
Very bad: there was no information from GN-App 🤬😡
Also very bad: no information about closing on club website 😡😡
Best Course in the CSRA
Without a doubt, this is the best public course in the Augusta area. The course is always in good shape, the staff is exceptional, and it is a great value for your dollar.
Excellent condition even with no rain.
Course was in great condition even with very little rain.
Range Balls
Play here as often as I can, one of my favorite in the state. Always in great shape & they finally replenished the sand in their bunkers, which have been poor for the last couple years!!! Did however have my first bad experience here checking in. Was rudely advised by woman in the clubhouse that my 2 playing partners "had to come in & pay $10 for hitting range balls". Never happened before & asked if this was something new. Was advised " no, its always been like that, read the fine print on golf now", and "you're lucky you haven't been charged before". Sure would have been nice if she said, "sorry, balls aren't included with golf now & next time you'll have to pay if you use the range". BTW, we always have drinks after golf ( not cheap here), and tip the bag attendants well who are always super friendly. Just her attitude left a bad taste in our mouths....not sure we will be rushing back. Honestly, if you don't want Golf Now players at your club, take it off the golf now site!!!. Asked the cart guys if this has always been the case, as we've never been told we couldn't use the range,....he just shrugged his shoulders and said " I just do what I'm told"....and then he apologized!!! Great course.....too bad this happened!!
Fantastic course
My friend and I drove over a hour to play and we both can’t say a negative thing. Fantastic course start to finish and had one of our best times ever on the course. Can’t wait to go back! Condition, layout, staff, views, all top notch and includes range balls.
Beautiful Course but Plays Longer than Yardage on Scorecards
This course has a "private feel" to it. When you first arrive, they come to the parking lot and get your bag and tell you where to check in. Then you walk out and you cart w/bag is right by the driving range with very nice range balls.
We played the Chester/Vintage course layout and it was in great condition. It will play a bit long in the early morning with the dew. The rough was thick (as it should be in the summer). There are a number of blind shots (especially on Vintage) but the carts have GPS so you can see the holes (and water that you can't see from the fairway).
I gave course layout a "4" only because it plays much longer than the yardage (which is fine but not always fun when you can't get on greens in regulation) Even the men I played with had trouble on a few holes with the length. Long hitters will love it.
Also, I think the forward tees were not rated correctly (in my humble opinion) with a slope of only 115, I would rate it more around 120; since some of the elevation changes made it very difficult to reach a green in regulation. For example, the final hole (18 or 9 on Vintage) was severely uphill, I hit a great shot but as we drove up the hill my ball started to roll back down - it rolled good 100 yards.
They have a very nice ladies locker room.
Of course dining:
The grill is very nice but we had an issue with the service.
The waitress was very nice but after 40 mins she came out and said our food would be out in 10 mins (that they had a big take out order). The 10 mins later still no food, at 60 mins my friend went to ask and he was told it would be right now. So we waited a full HOUR for a basic burger (which although hot, was not great - very dry). The waitress told us they only had one cook that day. But frankly, any other day I would have left after 40 mins. wait. Why is it acceptable to have people sitting in your dinning room wait an hour so that you can fill take out orders?
If I go back again, I will enjoy the golf and go somewhere else for drinks and food.
Thank you for your detailed review, GalCallaway. We're thrilled you enjoyed the course and amenities, but we apologize for the delay in dining service and appreciate your feedback. We hope to improve your experience on your next visit to Mount Vintage Golf Club.
Beautiful layout!
Beautiful course, greens were a little slower than I expected, the tee boxes could use some work, but overall a challenging course with gorgeous views. I would give it a very high rating of a 8.9 out of 10, the 2nd nicest course I've played, and I have played lots of private and public courses. Definitely would recommend to a friend, and I'll be back!
Thank you so much for the great review, Sapper122. We're thrilled you enjoyed the challenging course and beautiful views, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Mount Vintage Golf Club soon!
Thank you for your feedback, frankmitchell. We're glad you enjoy our course and appreciate your comments about the bunkers, but we apologize for the check-in experience and will address this with our team to ensure better communication in the future. We hope to see you again at Mount Vintage soon.
