Wilson LA city course
Facilities are old, need to be updated. Course in good condition Greens are excellent but that people have to repair their dibits. In all it's a good value for the money The pace of play is a slightly slow but it is a city course.
Great course but expect slow play
Great course, currently in great condition due to the Special Olympic golf events held here recently. Neat fairways and quick greens. However, the pace of play was incredibly slow. 5+ hour round. Just don't expect anything less than 5 hours and you'll have a great time haha.
Very slow place
Greens and fairways are nice . Staff friendly. Very sloooow pace of play. Took long time to check in for tee time. Would like pace of play to get faster and would probably play again. Beautiful mountains. Coyotes were seen on different holes of the golf course. Greens rolled true to the break you were seeing. The food and beverage selection was minimal. You had time at the turn to sit down and have a full meal which I think is crazy to have that slow of play
Pace of Play
This course was solid at best, not a bad place to play but one thing stood out. How in the world should it take five and a half hours to play 18 holes as a single on a Wednesday afternoon? That is insane. I cannot imagine Ill be back.
Beautiful Course
What a gem. Since I am not an LA resident and don't have a resident card, this was the first time I've actually gotten a tee time here thanks to online booking through your service. This place is one of the most scenic gold courses in all of the LA Area. Wild life everywhere, with beautiful urban forest. The redwoods are struggling the drought is a bummer. Great facilities, great history here, staff was great, friendly and accommodating. Food was good. Bar is great. Curse was in great condition. And the weather was just incredible. Had a lot of fun.
Why the marshal kept telling us to play faster when we were stuck behind a tournament group I thought was kind of weird. Especially since the tournament group had no business playing from the black tees that slowed down play for everyone. We waited on every tee for at least 5, and sometimes 10 minutes, as well as on the fairways playing behind this 24-28 person tournament group. Even playing behind a tournament, the pace of play was still not that bad.
Overall though, had a great day on the golf course.
Slowest round of all time
2:24 GN time - had a coupon so only cost 11 bucks ...we went out ONE HOUR LATE!!! Paired up with three other singles - good guys...but this course is PACKED! And way too many hacks playing from the black tees - HEY WILSON, CLOSE THOSE TEES ON WEEKENDS!
Beautiful course in the heart of LA...greens excellent...fairways almost too lush...proshop features degenerate golf hustler counter guy - pretty funny...bar food average...cobb salad had bell peppers - really?
Reputation
The pace of play is notorious by locals--many avoid the course for this reason. The practice facilities need tending and updating. The location and layout is great, though close to freeway.
course under const
no mention of course construction on the "booking" screen.. thats B.S.
tee's forward due to const
It was a joy to learn the Wilson course was now on Golfnow, buy joy turned to pain when the tee's were forward because of the construction underway. It would have been nice to know that prior to my booking my twosome.. as I have said before, just because the course is on Golfnow, does not make it either a nice course OR a value.. when played from the designed tee's this place is great. When dump trucks and backhoes run up and down the course its just another mess. C'mon guys, get it together.
There's good grass here!
Why would you go to Rancho Park? Because of its layout, and only because of its layout. There's no grass over there in the fairway or rough. The greens are bad at Rancho too. At Wilson, there's good grass everywhere. The greens are usually good and quick here as well. Right now, though, they are re-doing some of the tee boxes and adding a few more. But they're doing a good job, pretty quick work, so it's not a big deal. The fairway grass is kept long right now so the ball doesn't roll that much anyway, making the course still long enough (except on holes 4, & 5, for example, you can drive the greens from the Temp tees). As long as you come out and play early, you'll be fine with the POP, you'll get done in about 4.5, if you tee off before 8:30. Give it another month it'll be in great shape.
It is great features.
I like very much.
Because, nice to play golf.
Nere to living area.
Green is good. fareway is good.
Also facilities very good to.
I like to play every week.
Thanks
Heads up
The only problem I had was, nobody mentioned that they were re doing the tee boxes. Felt somebody could of gave us a heads up.
Had a good time
We had a good time though it took us almost 5 hours to play and many of the tee boxes were moved up due to maintenance of them. The price we payed was good and staff very friendly. Always like the course.
Very Slow Course
It took more than I expected so that I couldn't finish the whole 18 holes. Even to beginner like me, the course was too slow. I had to wait every time I finish a hole. I wouldn't play here in the near future.
Great Cource
This is a terrific cource... Well maintained - long and challenging---highly recommend it!
Great course,but slow play......
My opinion, they should lower rate's and and have mandatory carts. Too many people walking and pace was very slow.
Unpleasantly Surprised
I booked a round at Wilson Golf Course because of the deal I came across on Golfnow.com. It sounded great. They advertised $20 for the round WITH cart. When I got to the starter, I gave them my name and they let me know that they had just punched the greens of the Wilson Course that day. Not good. They also let me know that Golfnow had made a mistake and the deal DID NOT come with a cart included. I would need to pay an additional $13 for the cart, which meant $33 instead of $20. Either way, I was mostly bummed out about the condition of the greens at Wilson. I told them they should honor the deal from Golfnow and include the cart. They wouldn't agree to that and said that this was a reoccurring problem and an error that Golfnow was responsible for. Luckily they had a single spot available for me at the Harding course, on which the greens weren't aerated. It cost me $46 dollars to play Harding with a cart, instead of the $20 plus $2.50 reservation fee from Golfnow that I had expected to pay to play Wilson. Very misleading. I don't know who was at fault. The starter blamed Golfnow for the misinformation. From now on, IF I book another round from Golfnow, I will be skeptical and always call the course starter to confirm the specifics of the Golfnow deal. On the bright side, I shot my lowest score ever at Harding that day.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This was my first time playing here, and overall I had a pretty good experience. I read some other reviews and heard that the pace of play was very bad here. We either got very lucky or tee'd off at the right time which was 730am on a Friday morning. Our group of 4 finished our round in about 4-1/2. They lay out is pretty good, only complaint I have is that there is a lot of construction be done on the course, mostly on the car paths. Be ready for some detours. I really feel they should have given us a discount for playing through this at times, "mess".
Good layout but horrible conditions
Only decent thing I can say is the greens on the Wilson course were acceptable given this course is a muni-course. The main reason I gave this course (which I grew up playing over 30 years ago) a low rating was because the people that play here are all beginners or hacks with absolutely zero golf etiquette. So in fairness this is a good track but conditions are not suitable for the advanced level golfer UNLESS you tee off before 7:00 am when the players seem to be a little more serious and quicker in pace of play.
