Chardonnay Golf Club
About
Sitting at the gateway to the renowned Napa Valley wine district, Chardonnay Golf Club meanders through acres of lush Chardonnay and Merlot vineyards dotted with sparkling lakes and wandering creeks. Native flora and fauna cover the golf course, which also provides a home for an abundance of wildlife including hawks, foxes, bobcats, and even the occasional golden eagle. Besides the spectacular setting, the layout provides one of the most challenging rounds in the area. The rolling landscape provides interesting elevation changes and there are plenty of mature trees coming into play. Several holes also feature water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. Chardonnay Golf Club's greens are lightning fast and the course plays long. One of the most memorable holes, both for the scenery and level of difficulty is the par-3 eighth. This hole is framed by stunning views of the Valley and it requires some clever shotmaking skills.

Usually Good
This time we played the greens were punched and sanded. On GolfNow, they didn't mention that the course was going to be in sub-standard condition.
Let me know next time that the greens were punched and full of sand!!!!!
I took my good friend Carlos out here for his birthday. We drove 1 hour to get here. When I booked the tee time I was not notified that they were sanding and punching the greens. There was so much sand on the greens it was ridiculous. I understand that this must be done twice a year, but next time golfnow should let me know!! Fairways were in great shape. The round was about 5 hours. This was on a Monday.
Bunkers ! …more dirt than sand?
Great course terrible sand … use a five hydrid in fairway bunkers… not sure what to use consistently in green bunkers.
Tee boxes need a lot of work.
Overall a good challenging course. Staff was excellent. Pace of play was good. 18 holes in just over 4 hours. The tee boxes at least from the purple tees were poor condition. Bring a range finder and someone whose played there before. Greens are very tricky.
Chardonnay Rocks!
We always have a great time at Chardonnay. Played here 3-4 times over the past year and everything always in great shape. Fun layout that’s interesting but playable for us high handicappers. We booked first out at 6:45am but let a twosome go out ahead of our foursome - tees off just before 7am and finished before 11am. It was a pretty frosty morning so we were moving a bit slow while it was cart path only for the first four holes. Course conditions were excellent everywhere except the tee boxes. Many of the double mag tee boxes were mostly sand with very little turf but not a big deal since you’re teed up anyways. We’ll definitely be back soon (actually, I think we’re already booked for the following weekend).
Great course
One of the finest courses in the area. Great views of the vin yards and landscape. Definitely refer all my friends to play.
Great course…just a few tweaks
My 2 suggestions after playing here a handful of times are:
Get some real sand in the traps, the bunkers leave a lot to be desired
Have a Marshall, groups stack up and people join up sometimes resulting in 5 players together…
Otherwise I love playing this track and will keep coming back.
Great sunday
I went out as a single and got paired up with a twosome. They where awesome to play with gave me some tips on shot placements. And it was a great round . Weather warmed up , sun was out and pace of play was fantastic.
Beautiful cousre - totally lacking a marshal - very slow
This was my first time playing this course I had heard so much about it from friends and family and was beyond excited.
The course was beautiful (what I got to play, only 13 holes), but the pace of play was horrific. The worst I have seen in the past few years.
Every shot required waiting, the tee shot, the second shot from the tee, any shots onto the green.
There was no marshal anywhere to move the pace along (at least in front of us, was a two-some that was at least 2 holes behind by the 9th hole).
There was a cart issue also, the cart seemed like it was out of power, but when I talked to the person collecting the carts at the end of my day - at dark when we had to quit) he mentioned that some repair was required but they are waiting for "chips" - a pandemic casualty?!? Forgivable, unlike the pace of play.
Great Day at Chardonnay
My brothsr and I enjoyed the course layout and diverse greens.
Pace of Play
Chardonnay is a beautiful course in a great setting. My last round on Friday took 5 hours 45 minutes. There is no way to attain and sustain rhythm with the 10-15 minute delays on each tee box. More marshalling would be a blessing.
pace of play
Sierra foothill golf team ahead of me. They were taking 10 to 12 minutes to putt out on every hole. If they are college caliber, then I'm a professional.
Chardonnay GC Good Day
Crew at Chard really keeping the fairways and greens in as good a shape as possible
Thanks for a nice day
Lonnnnnnng, windy, day
First off, the staff was great, and the course was in fabulous condition. The greens were quick, and the pin placements were tough but fair. Fairways were fabulous, and the views are awesome.
6hrs to finish? It took an hr and 30 minutes just to get to the 5th tee box where we found, not one, but two groups waiting. 3 groups on a single tee box is not a good look, and it wasn't even the 5some in front of us that was slow. they were great. When I called the Pro-Shop and asked them to send a marshal out, they told me that one had already talked to the guilty party. I guess they didn't get the message, because the rest of the round was just as slow.
Would I come back here? Maybe, if someone else booked the tee time, and I didn't have anything better to do. There are just too many courses within a 20 minute drive of this place that also have good conditions, and fast greens to justify spending another 6hrs walking around a golf course surrounded by vineyards.
