Chardonnay Golf Club
        About
Sitting at the gateway to the renowned Napa Valley wine district, Chardonnay Golf Club meanders through acres of lush Chardonnay and Merlot vineyards dotted with sparkling lakes and wandering creeks. Native flora and fauna cover the golf course, which also provides a home for an abundance of wildlife including hawks, foxes, bobcats, and even the occasional golden eagle. Besides the spectacular setting, the layout provides one of the most challenging rounds in the area. The rolling landscape provides interesting elevation changes and there are plenty of mature trees coming into play. Several holes also feature water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. Chardonnay Golf Club's greens are lightning fast and the course plays long. One of the most memorable holes, both for the scenery and level of difficulty is the par-3 eighth. This hole is framed by stunning views of the Valley and it requires some clever shotmaking skills.

Very dissatisfied
I was very shocked of the course conditions. It was the driest I’ve ever seen. Needs a lot of water
Course, range, and facilities appear to be on the brink of bankruptcy
Played Chardonnay yesterday and the adjacent course Eagle Vines a few days earlier to determine whether either course was suitable for a group event this Fall. Chardonnay was ruled out by hole number 2. Greens were in reasonable shape although very slow - probably rolling 6-7 - but the rest of the course was in poor shape and in need of a lot of TLC. Very little sand in bunkers, some tee boxes absent of grass, range balls covered in dirt (staff was surprised why the ball dispenser was jammed!). It's an interesting track from a layout perspective and the pace of play was excellent because there was nobody there on a Tuesday afternoon, but poor conditions mean I won't be back. I suspect the course won't survive much longer financially regardless unless they get a new owner.
Chardonnay
Course was in great shape. The staff were friendly and took the time to get things right. We did not take advantage of any of the off course amenities due to time constraints.
Beautiful surroundings
I was looking forward to playing this course but was disappointed. Although no one could complain about the surroundings being right in the middle of grape vineyards, the course itself was a disappointment for its layout and conditions.
The bunkers were wet, hard sand and the fairways were dry with lots of dead grass. In addition, several tee boxes were in horrible shape, one at the 15th? had you hitting off of dirt! For the money, there are many courses that do better
Going down hill
Course used to be one of my favorites but has been steady going diwn hill. The tee boxes are either grass less or filled with giant ruts, the fairways are already drying out and the bunkers still have no sand. Weekday green fees have gone up 25.00 since last year and the quality of course has gone down under new management. I will be playing elsewhere.
IMPROVE THE TEE BOXES.
I play this course all the time in my rotation. Pretty challenging, for sure need to play smart in order to score. Most of the greens are a bit on the narrow side. My only concern were the tee boxes.. tee boxes are beat up and need some work. It’s only right to hit on more than decent lies on every tee box.
Bunkers are everywhere but unplayable.
Need sand in the bunkers. Range is in rough shape. Tee boxes were rough as well. Lots of work going on at the course. Hopefully it turns around soon. Could've been a great round. They also threw in multiple people on the back 9 in front of us and slowed the whole back 9 down.
5 and 1/2 hours course looks like crap
This course is a joke. 5 and 1/2 hours during the round called Marshalls who did nothing but sit and watch people. Then the kid in the pro shop Jacob argued with me and asked me what you expect for what you paid? Really really bad no username
Down Hill
The course has really gone downhill. Many of the tee boxes were an absolute mess, and several of the fairways had large dry patches
Course in excellent condition
Another day well spent playing Chardonay. Only drawback was playing with two golfers who seemed to be competing with each other throughout the whole round. Very frustrating for me because I just thought we could have played together without all that visible competitiveness. Just my opinion.
Its' turning Yellow
I have been playing here since it opened in the late 80s and never seen it in this state, It looks like the course has not been watered in a month.. The greens were also slow as if to conserve water. It has been going downhill since the new management took over. I hope somebody that knows what they are doing takes over since it was Gem at it's prime.
Awesome golf course!
As always, had a great time playing Chardonay. Definitely will be back soon!
What happened to this place?
Sadly, Something is wrong with the management of the golf course . It is my home course and I have played it over 50 times in my life.
It is by far away in the worst condition I’ve ever seen it. Barely any grass on the tee boxes. Good luck finding a flat place to stand on a par three. The traps are unplayable as there is no sand. (None) It’s all compact dirt. More than 50% of the rough is Brown with dead grass. These guys are obviously either out of water, out of money, or a combination of both. The sad thing is this is early June and we haven’t even gone through the hot summer.
Positives- Staff was friendly, food was good at the clubhouse. Greens were the most playable part of the course at a six out of 10. Never thought in my life I’d say that Kennedy Napa and Hiddenbrook are in much better condition.
Use to be better
Before Covid, I played Chardonnay weekly for about 6 yrs. Although slightly dry due to the drought, the fairways and greens were always in good condition, but the bunkers were very firm. The course was watered and well maintained. The amenities and staff were also always good. Customer service was great. The only thing different now is that the course is more dry even tho the drought is over. The fairways are ok and there is enough green grass, but there are more brown dry areas than before. It's only mid-June and not even hot yet. More water is needed. Not horrible but the green grass coverage and growth is not as good as it was. The putting greens are still good and challenging, but they hadn't been cut that Monday morning, so a bit slow and uneven, so a rolling ball would get pushed around and break or not break from the grain much more than usual. Again, not horrible, but not nearly as good as in the past. Bad timing or lower maintenance, I don't know. It's a public course so I can live with less than perfect fairways, but the putting greens need to be more regularly. It's not worth the time and effort to read a putt and put a good roll on ball when the grass is too long.
Poor course maintenance, water/sewage/mud problem, but staff were incredibly friendly
Took my dad out to play a round thinking it would be a nice course with at least one or two “wow factors” as it is a located in Napa and a country club with members vs non-members.
Both of us are avid golf players and play 3-4 rounds a week across courses in the Bay Area so we were excited to check this one out only to be disappointed.
Notes and takeaways:
-pace of play was horrendous. One group on the green, one group in the fairway, another group waiting to tee off.
I understand it was a Sunday and Father’s Day, so I’ll give them benefit of the doubt but they should have spaced it out more between tee times on this specific day
-our golf cart was on 4% battery on hole 12 so we had to drive back to get a new cart
-there was mud, hidden mini lakes under the grass in 1-2 fairways where it looks smooth and nice but you step on it and your entire foot is in water, the single bathroom mid-course had sewage water leaking outside it right next to the tee box and smelled horrible
-the bunkers had literally no sand in them. They were more barren holes and looked like the Grand Canyon
-I’ve seen greener courses for half the price I paid
-fairly flat and easy course. Greens were decent and maintained but anything leading up to the flag was just “meh”
-staff were extremely friendly and accommodating no issues there
Don't Waste Your Time
Ok course but for the price not worth it. Cart girl doesn't have anything stocked and staff has zero sense of urgency for anything. Course conditions sucked, every bunker was like playing off the cart path.
Beautiful Layout, But Mediocre Shape
It’s a shame that this (formally wonderful) course is not well taken care of.
For Example:
(1) Tee areas had no grass, just dirt & some crab grass
(2) Sand traps have turned into concrete (no loose sand present)
Course needs serious work. Greens were nice.
Spectators
I was paired with a twosome that was actually a foursome because they brought their wives along as spectators. Not cool man. I know that spectators are allowed at cheap municipals sometimes but I thought Chardonnay had higher standards.
