Chardonnay Golf Club
About
Sitting at the gateway to the renowned Napa Valley wine district, Chardonnay Golf Club meanders through acres of lush Chardonnay and Merlot vineyards dotted with sparkling lakes and wandering creeks. Native flora and fauna cover the golf course, which also provides a home for an abundance of wildlife including hawks, foxes, bobcats, and even the occasional golden eagle. Besides the spectacular setting, the layout provides one of the most challenging rounds in the area. The rolling landscape provides interesting elevation changes and there are plenty of mature trees coming into play. Several holes also feature water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. Chardonnay Golf Club's greens are lightning fast and the course plays long. One of the most memorable holes, both for the scenery and level of difficulty is the par-3 eighth. This hole is framed by stunning views of the Valley and it requires some clever shotmaking skills.

Good experience
The golf carts are newer. Tea box's and fairways are in great shape. I guess since it's not heavily tree populated the sun germinates seed well. The sand traps are about average. The greens are quite firm and don't hold well which is unusual in February. The course is very spread out. Sometimes a long minute driving between holes. Although it didn't feel like it our round took 5.25 hours. We had to wait a minute on about half our shots.. That's @ an hour longer than usual on Sacramento and Roseville courses. They shouldn't allow walking since there's a couple hundred yards or more between most holes. Overall a nice layout with lush fairways. Worth the 60 mile drive as far as I'm concerned.
Chardonnay on a Windy day
This course is always a challenge for me (I am a new golfer), but today even more so. Today was sunny, yet super windy... I probably lost a dozen balls today. I skipped around the course, because people were in groups of 4 or 5 and moving slowly. I skipped about 3 holes. Overall, I enjoyed myself and will come back in the spring on a nice day when I am a better golfer.
Slow play but great layout
Enjoyed the course but waited extensively on every hole.
Awful shape awful carts!
Fairways are barren and a total of 4 carts died ahead of us and ours too! Terrible pins as well for amateur golf!
It is a nice surprise
Haven't play Chardonnay for few years and decide to take a long drive there and try. Course is in very good condition for the value. Green is well maintained and offer a lot of challenges. Well play there again.
Good course, terrible staff and members
I have seen this course for many years, but haven't had a chance to play it because it is semi-private and it is a long drive.
This is my first experience with this course:
I walked in to sign in, the person behind the desk was alone and didn't even say good morning or recognize that I was there. After about 10 seconds I said good morning and he responded. (Dude, if you don't like to greet people or if you are not happy, go get another job somewhere else).
I noticed a sign that the practice range was closed. I always arrive an hour early to warm up and practice.
Next was that it was cart path only because it had rained 3 days prior to this day. This was a bummer.
After walking around in the store, I finally bought a shirt and wanted to check in, he wouldn't let me get a cart yet, but this was because my playing partner had the golf moose coupons. I guess it is his way of showing off his minimal authority. Would it really hurt to give me a cart 5 minutes early so I can get my cart set up.
Just before it was our foursome time to tee off, we notice that the 2 groups in front of us were fivesomes.
What kind of crap is that? They must have been special. Boy were they slow. They were 1-1/2 holes behind pace. (The course marshal came by at least 5 or 6 times throughout the round, but he didn't care.
The next thing I noticed was the group behind us, one of the guys had his dog with him. It was a nice friendly dog, but he allowed it to run loose. He had a tennis ball that he hit with his club so the dog would chase and retrieve the ball. WHAT kind of club allows this? Again, the course marshal let this go. Maybe next time I will bring my dog and horse.
The course has it's good looking areas and bad looking areas. Overall it is a good looking course with some good scenery. At one point, if you look hard, you can see the top of one of the towers of the Golden Gate bridge.
The greens seem large, and the are very hilly which makes for some fun putts. There are a few greens that if you are in the wrong spot, you will need to putt over the fairway and fringe.
There are a few holes with forced layups, as I recall, one of the holes does have a rock that tells you what the distance is to the hazard is.
One thing that i did notice was that some of the golfers smoke cigars and they flick their ashes on the greens and leave it there for others to work around, and I found at least a dozen cigar butts on the ground. Why can't you lazy people clean up your mess.
On the 6th hole, my electric cart started to die, I had to have the other cart in our group give me a push the rest of the way on the front nine. I went in and explained the cart died and they brought out another cart in a few minutes.
Overall I really like the course, but I dislike the staff, they ARE NOT FRIENDLY (Maybe because we were not members).
I am not likely to return any time soon.
I hope the management of this facility reads this review because you really need to fix things.

Fun course to walk
Played here for the first time. Course layout is awesome, the price is great and if you like walking it’s a great walk with good views! Bonus is big nice greens.
Always a Challenge
Love this course layout. The conditions make it even more challenging (lots of brown spots/hardpan).
The #1 handicap par 5 is my nemesis :-(
Napa Golf
Excellent course and a terrific test of golf.. Great variation and fun to play. Greens were rolling true and well protected by bunkers thru out. Great course and I will be playing it many times in the future.
Beautiful and challenging course
I walked this course once but the second time I made sure I rode. It’s not an easy walk and we got lost on two holes. The scenery was amazing, the course was in fairly good condition though some wet areas but must have been due to recent rains. It’s challenging but not frustrating. I’ll be back again.
Let me get this straight. Singles are not allowed, but Fivesomes are allowed with prior approval. There
is no way a fivesome is going to keep up with a single unless that single is new to the game. Also, why are golf carts not allowed when every other golf course in the area allows them. Or am I wrong about the carts?
