Ojai Valley Inn

About
Opened in 1923, Ojai Valley Inn Golf Course is one of California's first great courses. Over the decades that the course has been open, it has hosted a number of professional players and celebrities ranging from Arnold Palmer to Will Smith. George C. Thomas, Jr., who created the Riviera, collaborated with Billy Bell to design the original golf course but Jay Morrish made the layout considerably more challenging with renovations in 1988. Ten years later, two holes from the original Thomas/Bell layout that were lost during a redesign following WWII were completely restored and incorporated into the layout. The challenging golf course is very narrow in some spots and it features undulating greens that putt fast and true. The layout is not particularly long but it requires accuracy and proper club selection in order to score well.

Front nine needs some work there were several fairways that are bad more water
Not As Good As Previously
I've played the course before, and always been impressed with course conditions, especially the greens. Commensuarate with the ambience and the usual price. (Yes, this time we got a tremendous deal.)
It seems that the greens have not been properly cared for...maybe recently punched? The 6th hole was particularly bad. After a few holes of nicely fast greens, suddenly here is this...moonscape. Coming up a suddnely much slower green is one thing. But s'ow and your ball is aimlessly meandering left and right as it hits rough spots and giant obstacles is quite another. Several others were no better. Disappointing.
Of course we'll come back. I just hope that when we do, the greens are in MUCH better shape.
Shame on management
Ojai Valley Inn is a beautiful resort in beautiful setting. The golf course also could be beautiful and I am sure at one time it was lovely. The first few holes are a little gimmicky but overall the track is pretty fun and challenging. Unfortunately I have to bring up the lack of care to the course. Tee boxes are mostly trashed, some only had very little grass so you we’re hitting off of sand. Many greens had issues and lots of fringe was dead. A lot of uneven playing surfaces with dead grass and lots of hard pan lies. I felt ripped off. I hope the club takes responsibility and brings the course back to the high standards that it deserves. It was in worse shape than most Muni courses
Fun Course by pricey
I love this place for its beauty and the facilities / staff. The pace of play was fine, the greens were not in great shape, different greens had widely different speeds in my opinion. Unique hole designs, great views.
Nice
We had perfect weather. When the Santa Ana winds are blowing there is no wind in Ojai . Great place to also live.
Disappointed in a Gem
I have discussed my issues with Spencer the golf director and he has explained that some of the terrible things that are bringing down my last experience at Ojai are being addressed. I hope so. Ojai is a great track if in proper condition and this time it was the bottom of the pst 50+ rounds I’ve played there
This course great to play.
First time play this course. Course condition very good. Just 2 holes green not good. The staffs here are very friendly
