Ojai Valley Inn
About
Opened in 1923, Ojai Valley Inn Golf Course is one of California's first great courses. Over the decades that the course has been open, it has hosted a number of professional players and celebrities ranging from Arnold Palmer to Will Smith. George C. Thomas, Jr., who created the Riviera, collaborated with Billy Bell to design the original golf course but Jay Morrish made the layout considerably more challenging with renovations in 1988. Ten years later, two holes from the original Thomas/Bell layout that were lost during a redesign following WWII were completely restored and incorporated into the layout. The challenging golf course is very narrow in some spots and it features undulating greens that putt fast and true. The layout is not particularly long but it requires accuracy and proper club selection in order to score well.

Great setting...outstanding golf staff, very enjoyable round.
Great value
The course is in great shape and with the rate I paid I think it was a great deal. Staff super friendly and will recommend anyone to play this course!
Ojai is like playing a round in heaven! The conditions were fantastic and the staff’s helpfulness and
friendliness were just spectacular!!
Ojai Resort Course
A classic George Thomas track in one of the best settings in Southern California. On this particular day, there were two tournaments ahead of me, so the round was unusually slow. However, I have played there many times and rarely had any issues.
One thing they could fix at the course is the sand traps. The sand is very heavy, more like wet dirt. Best to stay out of them.
Ojai Valley Inn
OVI is always immaculately maintained. The greens are pure, but small. It’s not a long course, but a challenging one. The Inn makes kind of a big deal about the course being a George C. Thomas design, but there is very little left of his original design even with the addition of the 2 “lost holes”. The course has changed a lot through the years. I played there a fair bit during my college days in the 90s, and, frankly, the course set up now just seems very odd. It’s completely different than when the senior tour used to stop there. The staff is always great. We had problems with the GPS (even though it was very accurate). All the par 3s on the back were around the same length (190-200 yards).. in closing, you’ll be treated like a king at OVI, but you’ll pay a kingly sum as well. They want you to pay high green fees for a “Thomas” course which it really isn’t. I only ever play there when I get a discount as I feel the green fees are outrageous.
Excellent Course
Rode the blues in 3.5 hours. Course is in great shape right now. Greens have completely healed from recent aeration. Rolling medium fast with very few ball marks. Fairways lush with great lies. Rough not overly penal. Sand Traps are as good as the greens. Only flaw is tee boxes. Some are need of a trim. Some are kykui which leads to a spongy, uneven lie. I highly recommend the course especially with a hot deal and the $10 replay.
An enjoyable challange
This was my first time playing Ojai and what I had seen on their website instilled a little fear, as I am a fairly new golfer. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was able to go out ahead of my tee time and finished in 3 hour and 15 minutes. Although the course is quite challenging, it's manageable if you reference the tip sheet they give you. The course was in great shape and the greens are true.
EPIC Golf adventures await you
Go play! Go back in time and enjoy the “Lost holes” that are spectacular!
Course is in great condition and always a challenge.
Great Day
Ojai Valley Inn is a great value for money experience!
Excellent Golf Course
One of the best golf course in Southern California
Definitely I will be back !!
My 75th course to play in 2019 was amazing
This course is a must play and the staff and atmosphere is amazing
Play Ojai frequently. Always a delightful experience. Starters....Roland and Mark, we have known for years. They are simply, the best!
Fun Course Worth the Price
I had heard a bunch of great things about this course from different sources, so going into the course I had relatively high expectations for the course, and having played the course I can say that those expectations were met.
The layout is very compact, with holes being really close to one another, but it's a very interesting design, taking full advantage of the land that resort had to work with. There are a lot of elevation changes on the course due to the hilly terrain, and the course is also not that long, as I found myself using wedges on a lot of approach shots. The course really amazes with its closing stretch, holes 15-18, where the layout opens up.
Conditions wise, the course matches the price that's being charged. The fairways were lush and green with no bare spots in sight, the rough was really tame and not too difficult to hit out of, the sand levels in the bunkers were great, and the greens, although a little bit on the slower side, were rolling very smoothly.
All in all, it's a really fun, shorter course that's poses just enough challenge for being a resort course. We happened to get the twilight rate, which made this course a steal, but even for regular pricing, it's a course that anyone in the area should definitely play.

Best resort course near LA
The course was stunning. The hills provide fun challenges while the grass and greens were in tip top shape. They have smart carts so you don;'t need a range finder. Several of the holes feature scenic views that leave you not wanting to walk off the tee box after hitting your shot. Bring some extra balls if you are a hacker. Some of the OB areas are impossible to try to retrieve a ball from. The staff is wonderful and the hotel is as incredible as everyone says.
Top Notch
Booked a 12:50 tee time with the intention of arriving 2 hours prior so that we could unwind from a 1 hour drive from Los Angeles. Instead we were caught up in an unsual amount of traffic which resulted in us arriving just 25 minutes before our tee time. The pro shop staff and starters were very understanding and let us know that we could take our time unwinding and to just communicate when we were ready to begin our round which resulted in us teeing off at approximately 2pm. The course was in pristine condition, fairways firm, bunkers consistent, greens ran about 10-10.5 on the stimp which was consistent for a resort style course.
All and all, a wonderful experience from the moment you arrived on property. The staff was excellent and were always accommodating and deserve the highest praise!
FYI, we will definately be back!!!! Cheers
