Sweetwater Golf & Country Club

About
Sweetwater Country Club is situated amid the beauty of the Wekiva State Park. Sweetwater is one of Orlando's premier golf courses, boasting a challenging championship layout with some of the area's best greens. The classic links layout brings a taste of Scottish golf to central Florida. Mature oaks shade the golf course, lining the fairways and framing the greens. The 6,771-yard layout offers a good amount of length but it's definitely not a grip-it-and-rip-it course thanks to tight fairways that require accurate shot placement. The course is home to one of the longest par 5s in the Southeast, a challenging 625-yard hole that is aptly named the "Loch Ness Monster." The heavily tree-lined hole double doglegs around a large lake. There are some challenging holes but Sweetwater Country Club isn't overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Great time
Enjoyed my 9 holes. Better than most in the central FL area.
Getting better
I have played here 3 times now and you can tell they are making improvements to the course.
better than expected
My group & I found our experience better than expected. After reading previous reviews, the course was challenging, yet in good playing conditions. We will definitely be booking another round soon.
Going down hill quick
Course is falling apart, the greens are in awful shape, more mushrooms than grass on half of them, everywhere other than the fairway hasnt seen a weed wacker or otherwise in far too long. This should be a 15$ round max. Pretty sad honestly
What a cow pasture
One year ago me and my brother tried this course out. It was a mess then and not much has changed.
The practice putting green looked like someone hand dug holes with no cups placed in those holes and the putting surface was part of a field just cut short, not like the putting surface green every course has.
There were no tee boxes to speak of, just tee markers placed in dirt. No direction signs to tell you where the next hole is, which in a couple holes you had to backtrack to tee off from the next one Ball washers had no water and dry off towels. Fairways were not cut, so balls would hit and stop abruptly, giving hardly any roll, and so long that in some holes had trouble finding your ball. The greens were so bumpy that breaks could not be read properly, and most were diseased and had loose dirt on most of them (we implemented a two put rule when we hit greens because they were so poor). There was no landscaping to speak of making the course look run down. With this course being in a high end subdivision, it should look high end, not like a course that nobody took any effort in making it look presentable, which it didn't
It will have to be "dirt" cheap (pun intended) before I come back. There are plenty of others that are far better, and for about the same price. I cannot recommend this course to anyone.
Shouldnt Play No Matter What Price!!!
Greens are unputtable thheres no driving range and the fairways and bunkers are horrible the course is unplayable for any amount of money!!
Course Not in Good Shape
This course needs a lot of attention. Greens were in horrible shape & very slow. Dead fallen trees were all over the place. Tee boxes were mostly weeds & sand. Might play it again if they lower the price to around $25
Course in bad shape
Everything was overgrown. Greens and fairways in poor condition. Sometimes it was hard to see where the fairway actually was located.
Course Conditions
Started playing this course about a year and a half ago and it was making really good progress and I understand that these process take time. But today was my last time there for awhile until they can make the course playable. $50 for a round of golf to play in fairways that were identical to the roughs. Some of the holes you would lose your ball that was hit in the fairway. The couple in front of us said they were members of the course and they were about to cancel their membership because of the course conditions.
I would rather make the extra 15 minute drive to play Ventura where the fairways and greens are well maintained and pay $30. Sweetwater needs to either mow the grass more often then just Monday or cut the price of their play in half to accommodate for the horrible conditions.
For the price….
The course was well played out however the fairways and greens were in pretty bad shape
But for the price it was ok
Terrible
This is always a last minute/resort course. We know the course and greens are terrible, but sometimes it's just easy to book, because it's always empty. I booked the round through the app and of course when we arrived they were working on the greens and only the back half of the course was open. We still had to pay full price which was $100 for 2 to play the back 9 2x. The employee's are always nice and understand the course is in terrible condition.
OK sort of
Watched the price and time on GOLFNOW for a week. The tee time was still open. Staff is friendly and efficient. Sweetwater has new money coming in so there are a lot of things that "need" fixing. I played by myself and there were no others on the course. I played my round in 2 hours. Paths are mostly dirt. Route has a few "squirely" spot between holes. Bunkers are in rough shape and the rake is in the golf cart. #11 is a booger long par 5. The course has changed order of holes in the past month therefore I had to make adjustments because my igolf app did not quite fit.
They have mowed everything since you were there.
Greens have improved with rain and they installed a new water pump so future droughts won’t affect them as much.
Each week getting better.
