Sweetwater Golf & Country Club
About
Sweetwater Country Club is situated amid the beauty of the Wekiva State Park. Sweetwater is one of Orlando's premier golf courses, boasting a challenging championship layout with some of the area's best greens. The classic links layout brings a taste of Scottish golf to central Florida. Mature oaks shade the golf course, lining the fairways and framing the greens. The 6,771-yard layout offers a good amount of length but it's definitely not a grip-it-and-rip-it course thanks to tight fairways that require accurate shot placement. The course is home to one of the longest par 5s in the Southeast, a challenging 625-yard hole that is aptly named the "Loch Ness Monster." The heavily tree-lined hole double doglegs around a large lake. There are some challenging holes but Sweetwater Country Club isn't overly punishing for the high handicapper.

For the price….
The course was well played out however the fairways and greens were in pretty bad shape
But for the price it was ok
Terrible
This is always a last minute/resort course. We know the course and greens are terrible, but sometimes it's just easy to book, because it's always empty. I booked the round through the app and of course when we arrived they were working on the greens and only the back half of the course was open. We still had to pay full price which was $100 for 2 to play the back 9 2x. The employee's are always nice and understand the course is in terrible condition.
OK sort of
Watched the price and time on GOLFNOW for a week. The tee time was still open. Staff is friendly and efficient. Sweetwater has new money coming in so there are a lot of things that "need" fixing. I played by myself and there were no others on the course. I played my round in 2 hours. Paths are mostly dirt. Route has a few "squirely" spot between holes. Bunkers are in rough shape and the rake is in the golf cart. #11 is a booger long par 5. The course has changed order of holes in the past month therefore I had to make adjustments because my igolf app did not quite fit.
Basic
If I lived on this course I would play it but do not go out of your way to play here. Highlight: there was no one else playing so we sped right through 18 holes. The course just isn't in great condition and the course layout is horrible
Greens need care
Played this course several weeks ago and it was in decent shape. Unfortunately, the greens are now in poor condition, apparently because of a treatment mistake. The course has also converted a par 3 into a par 4 that is poorly marked and basically impossible to play down the "fairway." It has a nice layout otherwise and could be a fun course to play.
Better Soon
The course is very challenging. The entire club is under renovation and improvements including the clubhouse and the course. It a few months it will be a very nice course to play. Lots of dogleg fairways so you won't need to drive very far. Overall a nice place.
Disappointed
Played the course a couple months ago and the fairways and greens were in decent shape. Not so, this time. We were told the groundskeeper applied too much weedkiller, which greatly damaged both the fairways and greens. The course is also lengthening a par 3 into a par 4 and there is currently no way to actually reach the green without hitting into the adjacent fairway.
Conditions
It’s evident that management made a diligence and determined effort to get the playing conditions back to being above average, however, things are not looking good. Most of the greens are being invaded be weeds and could/should have been taken of, now they are really getting worse and soon to be unplayable. Some tee boxes have no grass at all. The clubhouse house is complete and looks great and there is now a beverage cart. Serious efforts must be made to arrest the greens deteriorating conditions, otherwise, the “faithful” few players will disappear! Do the improvements and many golfers will flock to this convenient location!
Interesting layout, very tight lots of sand
Greens were very bumpy and not a true roll, need alot of work. Could be a fun course if the greens were better.
SW
Beautiful clubhouse almost finished except for restaurant. Very nice and helpful staff. Golf carts are new. Course has a fun layout especially the back nine. Tee boxes and fairways need some TLC.
Needs work
Could not tell fairways to rough. Weeds all over the fairways as well as greens. This course needs serious overhauling of entire course. You can see more ground than grass all over the fairways. Balls land on fairways but most of times i was hitting from the dirt in between the grass.
It ready for prime time !!
I played Sweetwater 15 years ago - it was better then. Since the new construction they are struggling to provide a good course but it’s just not ready for play. There’s little grass on the fairways or greens and the entire course needs reworking for ease of play and even finding the next hole. The clubhouse is gorgeous but the bar is only beer and wine and the kitchen isn’t in operation yet. It’s just not ready!!
