Excellent round
This is a very playable course, with many wide fairways and some challenging bits as well. Very accessible for those new to the sport.
Exceptional course at a reasonable price
Fantastic course at castlereagh, I go every week and will sign up as a member for next summer.
Staff are friendly and the clubhouse is great. Nice bonus of having compressed air nozzles outside to clean off after a round.
Course is dynamic and well maintained.
4 ball friendly
The coarse was in lovely condition, greens were perfect only one gripe...the Tee box's were not level other than that the coarse was in great shape..
Stunning
Haven't played here in 15 years and I couldn't believe how well it's matured. Greens played very well . Fairways like a carpet . Once my membership expires from my current club I'll be joining here for sure!
Wonderful
Excellent parkland golf course. Best round of golf I’ve had. Greens unreal. Fairways, tees brilliant. The course is a true parkland. Great definition from tee to green.
Outstanding
Really enjoyed playing the course. Greens like putting on a billiard table. Fantastic
The front 9 very tight especially 2nd and 8th, the back 9 opened up more.
Great place for a round of golf. Definitely worth play.
Hidden gem!
Castlereagh Golf Course is one of those rare finds – a peaceful, beautifully maintained course that flies under the radar but delivers a top-tier golfing experience.
The greens are nothing short of outstanding – fast, true, and in immaculate condition. Easily some of the best you’ll find anywhere. Massive credit goes to the green staff, who are doing a first-class job. Their hard work and attention to detail don’t go unnoticed.
The course layout offers a great mix of holes, suitable for all skill levels, and the setting is calm and scenic – perfect for a relaxed round. It’s welcoming, well-run, and just a joy to play.
A true hidden gem that deserves all the praise it gets.
No better course for £20
£20 on a sunny day at Castlereagh hills is tough to beat, money well spent and I’ll definitely be back!

Castlereagh Golf Course – Excellent Playing Conditions and a Solid Layout
As someone who plays regularly and takes course conditions seriously, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality at Castlereagh Golf Course. It’s a well-kept course that offers a great experience for golfers who appreciate good turf and smooth greens.
Greens: The greens are a real highlight. They roll true and have a consistent pace throughout the round. Not overly quick, but fast enough to keep you honest. There’s a nice variety of slopes and breaks without feeling overdone.
Fairways: The fairways are in very good shape—tight cut, well maintained, and provide a nice surface to hit from. Even on softer days, there’s minimal mess or plugging. You can tell the grounds team takes pride in their work.
Bunkers & Surrounds: Bunkers are well looked after with good sand and proper raking. The short-cut surrounds around the greens allow for a mix of shot choices, which is always appreciated.
Course Design: The layout is enjoyable with enough challenge to keep things interesting. It’s not overly long, but there are a few holes that demand accuracy off the tee and smart club selection into the greens. It’s the kind of course where solid play gets
Where it all began
Isolated the course on the first day it opened, in fact a few friends and I would play a few of the holes before it was opened, a simple little 9 hole course back in the early 1980's when we were young.
The clubhouse then was a simple.affair and the pro was Simon Ostram.
Then there was a.38 year gap.
Fast forward.ro today and there are an additional 9 holes, good few of original holes have survived have matured nicely. The new (to me) holes are well designed and nicely presented.
Green keepers were working hard maintaining the course, not something you often see.
I had the best day, weather was perfect, played with 3 gentlemen I had never met and the course was in fantastic condition.
I don't think I could spend the £18 I spent on the green fee better! Cracking wee course.
Highly impressed.
I had an excellent experience at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course — a true hidden gem that exceeded all expectations. From start to finish, the course impressed with its top-notch maintenance and stunning setting.
The greens were superb — fast, true, and consistent across all 18 holes, providing a real test of putting skill. The fairways, tees, and approaches were all in immaculate condition, making every shot feel rewarding. You can tell a lot of care and attention goes into the upkeep of this course.
Two of the standout holes for me were the 7th and 13th. Both are beautifully designed and make great use of the natural terrain. The views from these holes — and throughout the course — are breathtaking, especially the panoramas looking out over the Ards Peninsula. It’s the kind of scenery that adds something special to your round.
The 8th hole deserves a mention for its challenging bunkers. They’re strategically placed and definitely demand a precise approach — not for the faint of heart, but very rewarding if you manage to escape unscathed!
The value for money. I was genuinely surprised to learn that this is a council-run golf course. The quality here rivals many private clubs I’ve played, but at a fraction of the cost. It’s accessible, well-managed, and welcoming — everything a public course should be.
All in all, Castlereagh Hills is a course I’d highly recommend to golfers of all levels. Whether you’re local or just visiting the area, it’s well worth your time. I’ll definitely be back!
