Course in poor condition
Greens in poor condition. Tee boxes poorly laid out. Bunkers full of weeds with very little sand. Overall very disappointing.

We played this course couple of years ago and was really looking forward to round today, it's appears that course has been let go a bit, tee boxes not well marked out, bunkers have weeds and big stones in them, will be in no rush back. Photo below is not worse bunker.
Rough Greens and shabby bunkers
Greens were patchy, rough, hairy, impossible to read leading to a frustrating round. The bunkers were poorly maintained, little sand and most had grass growing in them!!
Greens are atrocious , hairy , patchy and not rolled .The bunkers were badly maintained, had grass growing in them and some needed filled with sand !!
Greens very poor, ,patchy and at times forcing you to really push the ball bunkers had grass growing in them and little sand .
The worst golf course in nireland .totally unmaintained no bunkers greens below any sort of standard needs a lot of money spent on it but unfortunately thats not going to happen.
Down royal
Enjoyable golf course, Friendly staff, course holds up good in wet conditions. Definitely recommend!!
Rough rough
Down Royal is the only place you can play short of heading to the coast, on a wet day. It is well-drained and offers playing opportunities where many other courses would be closed.
The course is interesting, some holes where the tee shot is blind, 2 doglegs and particularly in its par 3s, two of which are well protected by water.
I have seen improvements in the course management in the last 2 years, however the rough is still left very long and a good drive that rolls off the fairway is unfortunately not findable. With the new handicap system, this course is considered easy however you will loose balls in the rough and that makes playing to the HC difficult.
It has the potential to be a great facility but just needs a little more care and attention.

Overheard greenskeeper complaining about being told not to cut the grass as it didn’t need it, I played here before it was owned by the merrion group and it was fantastic with the Same green staff
