Crescent Pointe Golf Club

About
Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton is Arnold Palmer's only public course in the area. It is conveniently located just a few minutes west of the bridge leaving Hilton Head Island. Opened in 2000, the course has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the Lowcountry's best. Sprawling across a lush landscape blanketed with century-old oaks and towering pines, the layout is as scenic as it is challenging. While the generous fairways may be player friendly, the difficult approaches to the elevated, well bunkered greens are anything but. The large, pristine white sand bunkers were designed in true Palmer-style, closely following the natural undulations of the land. The gently rolling terrain is unique for the area. Crescent Pointe Golf Club's elevation changes aren't dramatic but they do provide some subtle, but tricky undulations in the greens that make it hard to find a flat lie.

Extremely thin lies on fairways make course more difficult
Some positives here, but the fairways are the worst I've encountered near Hilton Head. Yes, it's March, and the bermuda grass is still dormant. But it is much thinner and shorter here than any other local course. It's like hitting off bare ground -- hardpan, really. We won't be going back for that reason alone. It's probably fine in the summer, but we're only here in March. The course layout is interesting and varied, liked it, but the ball runs so far on the super-thin fairways that even well-hit shots sometimes end up in a hazard. Several of my shots rolled 30 or 40 yards, sideways, into a hazard -- even though I landed the ball in the middle of the fairway. Makes a difficult course even harder. It was so frustrating, that I ended up putting a very short tee under my ball for 2nd and 3rd shots just to make the course playable for me (20 HCI). On the plus side, I liked the layout (even though it is difficult with many forced carries), greens were mostly in good condition, staff was friendly, and it's a pretty course. But pace of play was very slow, 2-1/2 hours for 9 holes, and there is no ranger. We had GroupGolfer coupons, which made this a very good deal, but even at $40 for 18 holes & cart, we won't be going back anytime in March.
Very poor course conditions
Crescent point was the 7th course played in March. The fairways had very little grass, the rough had no grass and the greens were spotty with many having large areas with no grass. While the course layout was interesting, with many memorable holes, the course in desperate need of some TLC. I am told it has been this way for several years. There are many choices where one can play in the area. While the rate was low, I would rather pay $30 more and have a better golfing experience. I won't be back to Crescent Pointe.
Beautiful challenge
Stunning yet very challenging layout with many hidden or unexpected traps, ditches, unfavorable rolls and small, nuanced greens - but very fair to accurate play.
All good but a bit slow.
Course is in good condition and fun as always, but pace today was a bit slow. With the new cart gps' course should be able to monitor slow play. Always enjoy the Crescent.
Great course. Family friendly
Great layout and very friendly staff!!! Brought family out to play.. Gary at club house was very accommodating. Wasnt sure if 13 daughter would even play all nine holes shatrng clubs with my wife. Proshop did not charge full price for her. Most Golf courses are not family friendly anymore. Hilton Head used to be way more familty friendly years ago on off hours. Now most courses do not care and have crazy high jr rates during "off" tee times. Thats why golf is losing popularity amound the youth......especially girls!
Very challenging for 20 HCI golfer
My wife and I enjoyed our round today, and will probably play again. Got a good deal on GroupGolfer. First time here, and they didn't pair us up with anyone, so we were on our own to figure out the course. There are quite a few forced carries, and some some hazards are not visible for the tee (or not visible from where you're hitting 2nd or 3rd shot). I lost a lot of balls, even on shots that I hit well, because of the hidden hazards. Will definitely be much more conservative in shot selection next time. NOTE: reviews on GolfPass have improved dramatically in the past 6 - 12 months, so ignore older negative reviews. That said, they do not overseed the fairways, so you are hitting off VERY thin lies for 2nd and 3rd shots. Green speed seemed to vary, and some greens had bare spots - - I would expect better for a club of this standing. Staff was friendly, but there was no ranger. The group ahead of us spent a lot of time searching for lost balls (threesome, half of their tee shots pulled/hooked into the woods), so we waited on virtually every tee. Round took 5 hours. At their skill level, they should have been playing from the green tees instead of the whites. Anyhow -- nice layout, very challenging, not long but requires thoughtful target selection.
Great Layout!!
Awesome layout, has tonnes of potential with better course conditions (greens and tee boxes were very playable). First time playing CP but by the sounds of it the new ownership is turning the course around. For $50-$60 it’s great value for the Hilton Head area. #2 and #9 are great par 3’s. Would recommend and play again. Clubhouse staff were very friendly.
Great Palmer Design
A great layout with lots of water and expected marsh views typical of the Low Country. A gem in the Palmer portfolio with his easily recognizable architecture . Plenty of room on mostly wide fairways, but challenging approach shots. Dramatic bunkering frames the par 3s. Prepare yourself for challenges on #9 and the sublime of #14. Big par 5s with some forced carries make it fun to grip it and rip it too.
I enjoyed the hospitality, club fare and charming grill afterwards as well.. You will too.
I played the course in the beginning of the month with friends! I loved the layout, the challenging bunkers and the difficult par 3s, particularly number 9. The views of the marshes are beautiful especially on 17! We will be back!
Nice but expect a slow round
My wife and I played as a twosome but we waited on every hole. Unfortunately we never saw a marshall who might have been able to help.
No one likes 5 hour rounds, especially as a twosome
Sorry, we wanted to like Crescent Point, a lot.
Good value for the island
This course is improving with time, my 3rd year visiting the island and for the money a good value.
Affordable and a good challenge
Played the course two days before with a guy (Rex) who is a regular there and he showed us the layout. Really enjoyed it the second time around.
We will be back!
My wife surprised me with a trip to Crescent Pointe Golf Club for our anniversary, and it was a perfect choice. The course is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views and well-kept fairways that made for a relaxing round. We had such a pleasant time playing together, enjoying the scenery and the challenge of the course. It was a wonderful way to spend the day, and we’ll definitely be back for another round. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful and scenic golf experience!
Beautiful Scenery and Relaxing Round
I recently played at Crescent Pointe Golf Club and was really impressed by the scenic vibes of the course. The layout offers some great views, especially along the water, making for a relaxing round. It’s a peaceful place to play, and the natural surroundings really add to the experience. I’ll definitely be back to enjoy it again!
Decent course for the money
Greens were the best we've seen this week, kudos to the groundskeeper!
Course has a very good layout. Tees were in good shape. FIrways are annoying as there are no flat lies! Feet were always above or below the ball. If you hit the fairway you shouldn't be penalized for it. This is my biggest complaint and why I Don't enjoy playing this course regardless of the very good value and the great conditioned greens, the fairwaiys are all beige and thT may just be because it is winter but the undeveloped gound is just wrong
The GPS in the cart was also 5 minutes or so behind actual position. We were about 3 yards ahead of the 150 marker and it still showed 196yards to center.
7.5 out of 10 overall.
Women's Club gives it an A+
My women's golf club recently played at Crescent Pointe Golf Club, and we had an absolutely fantastic time. The course was in great shape, and everyone enjoyed the round. What really stood out, though, was the staff at the clubhouse. They were incredibly welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed, which made the experience even better. We’ll definitely be coming back!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Course with an Arnold Palmer Touch!
Crescent Pointe Golf Club is a must-play in Bluffton! As an Arnold Palmer Signature Course, it offers a challenging yet enjoyable layout with stunning Lowcountry scenery. The fairways are well-maintained, the greens roll true, and the course provides a great mix of risk-reward holes that keep the round exciting.
The staff is welcoming and helpful, ensuring a great experience from start to finish. The King’s Courtyard restaurant is a perfect spot to grab a bite after your round, offering delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere.
Whether you're a local or visiting the area, Crescent Pointe is a fantastic choice for a round of golf. Highly recommend!
Great day of golf
I recently had the pleasure of playing at Crescent Pointe Golf Club with my dad, and I have to say, it was an incredible experience. The course was in fantastic shape (overall), with well-kept greens and fairways that really made the round enjoyable. The layout was definitely fun
What really stood out was the overall vibe of the course. It’s clear that they take pride in providing a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and everyone we interacted with—from the pro shop staff to the groundskeepers—was super welcoming.
It was a perfect day on the course, and my dad and I had a blast. If you're looking for a great round of golf in the area, Crescent Pointe is definitely worth checking out. We’ll be back for sure!
Very interesting review. The fairways had very little grass and the rough had none? Am I to understand you played 18 holes on a course that was almost completely dirt?...
