Dispointed
The course was extremely wet. On the first hole a truck came on the course. Our tee time was late as they had an outing and then crammed players on the course. All groups were on top of each other. In the pro shop a patron asked for a bucket of balls and staff rudely told him there were no balls. They all were in the lake. No apologies or anything. Will not play there again.
Ho-hum
The best thing you can say about Deer Run is that it's surviving...an average course, well overpriced...it stays in decent shape, nothing to get excited over...no beverage cart on a packed Saturday morning? really? probably cost the course a lot of revenue...4.5 hours to play this course is way too long...how about a ranger out on the course to keep play moving?
Improved
The course is in much better shape than it was 6 months ago.
Not what I would call a Country Club...
First time playing here and after reading reviews, figured I'd give it a shot. Plenty of rain the days before left the place soaked, but playable (except bunkers). Greens were in very good shape and rolled nicely. Place was packed out, so it was a 5 hour round. Much too long for a short(er) course. Playing from the tips provided some nice long Par 3's & 5's. Being somewhat of a purist of the game, I was disappointed in the lack of respect for the dress code. Cutoffs, camo, and bike week t-shirts are not "Country Club" attire.
However, the course was decent and the pro was friendly and accommodating. Good value for the money.
Nice course
Down from Vermont for the holiday. Had a few wet spots and bunker sand was hard but overall the course was in good shape. Apparently there has been a lot of rain recently. Enjoyed the company of various species of birds around the course. Pace of play was a bit slow for a weekday but probably due to more people in area for the holiday like us. Staff were friendly. Would definitely play here again.
Great layout but occult be in better shape
I thought for the most part that during the winter and spring months, golf courses in FL are in the best shape. Too many brown area that I expected which didn't affect play but the scenery wasn't great. Many bunkers did not have a rake? Greens are rolling good.
Quite a lot of ground works around the club house and adjoining holes.
It was quite an enjoyable round despite initially being paired with a complete novice and his not too much better dad. I had to leave them and play a singles game or I would still be there. It was my first time at Deer Run and when the groundworks are complete it will be much better. Overall ok.
Great day of golf
The overall condition of the course was very good. pace of play was also very good. Had a great day thanks
Getting Better all the time
I played this course a lot a couple of years ago while I attended the Golf Academy in Apopka. I must say that it has improved conditions from tee box to green! Well done Deer Run!. I am even going to join the Mens League for networking and socializing!
Excellent Course
We played the course 2 days after we had a storm dump 8+ inches of rain and ther was still some standing water on the course. Other than that the couse was in great shape. Greens rolling true and pretty fast. The course was oce a golf school and the course is laid out so you will have a chane to play most shots. You need to be able to shape your shots to score well, and several holes have the risk/reward options.
nice layout
nice condition, fast greens,a need for well placed shots
A cold day on the Course
We played in 45 Degree weather so the layers of clothing affected our swing. Have a water driving range which I like because I can see where my ball lands. The course was in great shape. The greens were pretty quick and consistent. The course is challenging because it gives you the choice to go for broke or lay up and play it safe. There are rewards for going for it and if you miss there is a price to pay. I think one of the best hidden values in central Florida.

Greens Good Not Great But Good
I have not played Deer Run in 25 and was pleasantly surprised how well the course looked. The greens were good but not great. Meaning they rolled pretty ture but were a little slower than I like. There were some that were a little bumpy because lazy golfers do not fix ball marks. It really only takes 10 seconds to do. The first round I played was fairly fast until the 12th hole. Some people should know when to pick up the ball after 8 or 9 strokes. The second trip was a Friday and there was a tournament of sorts. I had 3 groups in front of me and they were very courteous and allowed me to play through. I finished my round in 2 hours. I will go back and enjoyed playing a course from my younger years.
A Much Improved Course
Had played there two years ago and swore I'd never go back. Condition of course was not good at that time and I really don't like the layout that much. But after reading all the positives on GolfNow, I thought I would give it a shot. Got a good Hot Deal, and off I went on a beautiful golf day. Actually it was cool and foggy for first six holes, but then the sun broke through and it was gorgeous. The rework they did on course is great. Greens are tremendous (much like Wekiva); tees are level and well-grassed, and fairways are very playable. Traps on some holes were a bit suspect - kind of wet. The layout still leaves me a bit cold - several doglegs that require an almost perfect tee shot or you're looking at bogie or more. But give Deer Run a shot if you can find it for under $15.
Great value for the money!
I got a great deal on Golfnow.com and it was a semi-wet day that turned out great. The course was in very good shape. The scramble group in front of us was a bit slow but nothing you don't get every week at every course around. All over a great deal for the money!
A hidden gem of a course
Definitely check out this golf course. The staff and the course were great. Even with over-seeding in progress, the course was very playable. Each hole was interesting and presented a challenge.
Fairways being seeded and watered!
The fairways are currently being overseeded and watered (during play). This was not revealed during the booking and it really should be.
Not only does the pace of play significantly slow down because you cannot ride on the fairway but the constant sprinklers turning on and off is very frustrating. We even had to skip the 17th hole because the sprinklers were turned on over the tee boxes.
I would be ok with all of this if it had been revealed during booking AND if the price was lower than normal. $33 is already on the high side for this course and they should at least drop the price during their maintenance.
