Baytowne at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort
About
Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is routed from the beach to the bay, providing stunning views along the way. The course rolls across the few elevation changes that the area has to offer. Although it opened in 1984, the golf course didn't reach its peak until it underwent extensive renovation in 2005, which were carried out by the original designer, Tom Jackson. The layout features rolling fairways lined with mature pines that are generous and times but can be tight when you least expect it. The large, undulating greens can also play faster than what you might be expecting. Water, which comes into play on 12 holes, is a prominent feature of Baytowne Golf Club as are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout.

Another perspective
Played the course again for the 2nd time in 4 days.
Fairways and tees are plush and very nice.
Bunkers were fluffy enough that I had an embedded lie or two (my fault it was embedded, not the course's).
Greens - rolled good. Probably 8 on stimpmeter. A little discoloration on most greens but didn't affect the roll. A few 'fuzzy' spots' that were obvious if you read the grain of the putt. Overall, fun.
This is a great course for a fun recreational round. The greens are slower than a 'championship' course, but Baytowne is NOT a championship course. It's a resort course that gets a LOT of play. If you are a low handicapper, you might be disappointed. If you are an average golfer...play the course and have fun.
Slow and rough greens
Greens were disappointing…extremely bumpy and SLOW. It’s a good layout though
Sloooowwww play
They need to keep things moving. Took 5 hours for 18.
Baytowne
Course layout was really good. Fairways were excellent but the greens were in really bad shape. Was told at check in the greens had been top dressed. Greens had not been mowed before and had tons of sand. They were slow and bumpy and tough to putt. We used a 2 putt rule on every hole. We paid 90.00 to play and i would of been ok with that if the greens were even fair shape. I thought there should of been a good discount to play. Will certainly check next time before i bood a tee time
Greens improving
I'm a member at Sandestin and have played Baytowne many times. The layout is fun. The fairways are plush. The tees are great.
The greens are GREATLY improved over where they were 2 months ago. They are not a 12 on the stimpmeter, but they are puttable and predictable and rolled very well.
Today the greens were approximately an 8, but rolled true. They were so much better that I flagged down one of the guys that were mowing one of the greens to tell him how much better they were.
Don't be afraid to play this course!
Greens are awful
Checked in and paid full price only to discover that the driving range was unavailable to us as there was a collegiate tournament (using Raven and Links) and all the golfers were using it and there was no where for paying customers to hit. They even brought all the golfers over from the Links course to use the range as the Links range is irons only. Not a, hey guys we discounted your rate by 5% or were sorry. Nothing, just "good luck" finding a spot. The putting green looked very rough too. The fairways and tee boxes we fine. The greens were in terrible shape and it didnt appear as if they had been cut in about a week.. The sand traps had not been raked either and a few had grass/weeds growing in them. On about half the greens the grass around the actual hole was hacked up or damaged. They had not changed the hole location in several days. I have played this course about a dozen times over the last ten years and today's conditions were the worst I have ever seen for this course. I do not recommend this course in the current shape it is in. I hope it improves.
Not what it used to be

Baytowne Not Worth It
Pro Shop stated the greens were UGLY but PUTTABLE. She was dead wrong. The greens were the worst I have played anywhere, any time, ever. Course conditions, especially the greens were abysmal. Last time I will ever play Baytowne. I've played $20 muni courses that were in far better condition. The greenskeeper should be fired.
Greens
A lot of the greens were in bad shape. Otherwise a nice track.
Baytowne Golf Course
Course had a great layout. Fairways were excellent but honestly I have played many courses in Florida and these were the worst greens I have ever played on. The pace of play was very slow. No ranger in sight. The rate should definitely been discounted but it was 90.00 to play. Way over priced. They topped dressed the greens the morning we played and it was bad. Wish I had known and we would of played somewhere else
Great layout. Bad greens
I love the layout. Apparently no one knows how to rake bunkers. The greens were pretty bad. Slow, sandy and bumpy. Almost unplayable. Really sad because the layout is solid and everything else was in good shape.
Greens are horrible
The greens are almost unplayable. Like playing on temporary greens. Website says nothing. When you check in the pro shop mentions that the greens are not as good as they would like, but the greens feel has been discounted. The green fee was $90. It was worth $25. Just put something on the website saying the greens are in bad shape so people don’t waste there time making a tee time and then finding out on the first green how bad it really is. Playing greens the day after a full punch would have been better. They should close the course for three months until the greens are back. Whoever is managing this place should be embarrassed.
Slow pace of play
It has been years since I've played Baytowne, and will likely be years before I play it again. There are some beautiful holes. I like the layout, and if you play one of the two back tees it's a challenging course, but this time the greens were in very poor shape. Very long, slow and bumpy. But the worst part of our experience was the pace of play. We consistently waited on every hole, and on the back 9 there were sometimes 3-4 groups on a hole at the same time (see picture).
Greens are lost
No way they should be charging more than $25 for these conditions. Tees and fairways are fine. But the greens are completely lost and unplayable. They might as well be circles drawn in the fairway. Although the fairway grass is likely better. $90 was borderline theft. Typical, the pro shop informed us the “greens are brown and ugly, but very playable”…… Right after swiping our credit cards to pay. They were brown and ugly….. and playable, if we were practicing putting out of the rough.
The greens here have continually gone downhill for years. Now, they are completely gone.
Greens messed up
Greens are messed up by something. Extremely slow and hairy. And dead in spots. Everything else was great
Greens are horrible now but nice track and area
Greens are horrible
Awesome Sandestin Area Course with a great layout
Also traps need attention
