Golfers standing on the Ranch’s first tee might feel, for a second, that they’re on a links course. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The seventh green. This hole is typical of the par-4’s here: fairly long and definitely challenging. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The ninth, par-5, 540. “Glacier,” as this hole is dubbed, plays straight downhill. And a bad drive may lead to a “meltdown.” Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Sixteen, par-5, 618. Another dramatic downhiller named “Ski Hill,” which certainly suggests the thrill of playing it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The 18th: par-4, 438. A fitting closer, but also a hole that captures the beauty of New England golf at its finest. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Ranch was better than advertised
Course was in immaculate condition. Really good test of your game. Very picturesque course. Would highly recommend and will play again.
7.9/10
The Ranch, Southwick MA (7.9/10)
Conditions (8)
Course was in great shape. Fairways and tee boxes smooth and short. Well manicured course with thick rough and clean bunkers. Greens are receptive and quick, but fair. Great.
Layout (7.5)
Very easy to navigate course. Good signage. Lots of elevation would be difficult to walk. Part of the course is very open and links, other half is wooded and isolated. Best of both.
Design (8.5)
Great holes with fun elevation changes. Some blind tee shots but the electronic gps on the car helps a lot. Holes are fair but varied and well designed. Golf shots have to be thoughtful. You will hit every club here.
Amenities (6.5)
Electric carts, grass range, okay putting area. Could not access clubhouse due to Covid-19. Good public facilities but nothing to write home about.
Feel (9)
I really love the feel here. A varied, well conditioned course that feels like private golf after the 3rd hole. It’s easy to play well but difficult to go low unless you play the course consistently. Love it here.
Overall (7.9)
Great Course!
This place is a hidden gem. One of the more challenging courses I have played with plenty of elevation changes, dog legs and water features. The maintenance is top-notch as well, with the fairways cut as close as some greens I have played. This course is worth travelling for!
Greens were below average for this type of course but ok for November in Massachusetts.carts were not properly charged had to switch carts 3 times during round.
Looking for a Tough but Fair Course
This was my first time to this area. I was recommended to this course by some New Yorkers, as I asked for a tough but fair course. I came away very pleased with the course and it's condition.
Awful pace of play
Our round took over 5 hours to complete, constantly waiting on every shot. Ranger came by a couple times, saw the slow groups, and just stated it was slow out there.
On top of that, our cart battery died on the 17th hole, I guess it also couldn't handle the slow day.
On the bright side, the course was in great shape, absolutely beautiful all around, with a great layout.
The Ranch
Great golf course. Championship layout that did not disappoint. From the bag drop to the last sip of beer after the round everything here was top notch. Tough course as I played the back tees and my wife played the white/gold combos. They had aerated 1 week prior but it absolutely did not impact the playability. Greens were fast and true. Cart girl was around several times and lunch was delicious afterwards.
Hilly Course with Great Views on the Back 9
This course is a very well laid out design. There are vey few forced caries and many areas for lay-ups if needed. The greens are not large so it is possible to two putt from most areas of the green (if you're having a good putting day). Quite often you will find yourself with uneven stances when hitting from the fairway. I've played this course 3 times now and the conditions have been great every time. Even this most recent time, when the greens were aerated, the ball still rolled fairly smooth. I really enjoy this course and highly recommend.
The Ranch
Terrific shape. Good friends, good round in the heat. We’ll go back when it cools off some.
Great views
Little pricey. Range ball should be included. Great staff. Quick service in the restaurant. Both Bonnie’s rock it for service.
Mint!
All around great experience at the Ranch. Staff loads your bag and could not be any friendlier! Tee boxes, generous fairways, and very fast greens all in immaculate condition. Well worth the 90 minute ride. Certainly a top 5 public course in MA. A few blind shots so it helps to play with a member. Well done Ranch, well done indeed.
One of the best public courses in New England
Awesome track cut out of a mountain side. Course was in the best shape I’ve seen out of the 10 or so times I’ve played here in the last 4-5 yrs. The course demands accuracy and shot planning. On the pricey side, but worth it.
A Must Play Course
Always a treat to play at The Ranch. We travel 90 minutes to enjoy the sheer beauty of this course and its setting. Everything is first class at The Ranch. The course is always in spectacular condition. The staff is superb and assembled to make the experience enjoyable for players of all skill levels. Best “cart woman” in the world. Cannot wait to get back there.
