Golfers standing on the Ranch’s first tee might feel, for a second, that they’re on a links course. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The seventh green. This hole is typical of the par-4’s here: fairly long and definitely challenging. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The ninth, par-5, 540. “Glacier,” as this hole is dubbed, plays straight downhill. And a bad drive may lead to a “meltdown.” Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Sixteen, par-5, 618. Another dramatic downhiller named “Ski Hill,” which certainly suggests the thrill of playing it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The 18th: par-4, 438. A fitting closer, but also a hole that captures the beauty of New England golf at its finest. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Very nice
The course is very nice and the greens are fast. Fairways are generous. Many tee boxes for all different golfers.
Ct Pat
5 stars is not enough for this quality course.
If you haven't played it, you are missing out.
Nice challenge
The Ranch is an interesting course. Many of the holes place a premium on placement. The greens are fast, requiring accurate approach shots, and thoughtful chips. You will also find that quite a few holes have blind shots from the tee, so having someone in the group who has played the course can be extremely beneficial.
The Best Course in Western Ma.
The course is wonderful, with a memberful layout and a great staff.
Octoberfest
Very windy day, made it feel 10 degrees cooler than it was. Fortunately the pace of play was fine and kept the blood flowing. Foliage was beautiful and the greens were fast but consistent.
Wind Gusts To 25 M.P.H. !
As usual the course was in great shape! A lot of roll on the fairways and fast but true greens. The wind made it a tough day. Everyone at the course was great. Ate our supper there and the food was excellent. We will be back next year!
Must Play
Staff is above and beyond friendly. Need to play it again to get the feel for the course. Played the tips and it was a great experience. Greens were amazing for middle October. Course overall was PGA Tour quality. The views from the tee boxes are also stunning.
Only thing I would change is seeing the ball land from the tee on the range but that’s a small detail.
Go play ASAP.
Windy day on the Ranch!
Boy, the wind added many strokes to our scores today !
The course was in great shape. Bunkers were a bit rough due to all the rain.
Greens were in tip top shape and very FAST!!
The PUB was excellent.
A great day ‼️
Gotta Play This Course
I had never been to The Ranch until last week. Unfortunately, there had been a LOT of rain in the days preceding when I went to play and the entire course was cart path only wet. Add to this, we got stuck behind a foursome, one of whom had a heart condition and could not walk faster than a slow shuffle. It took 3 hours for our threesome to get through 9 holes. At the turn I went in and explained that I had not planned for a 6 hour round and requested a raincheck. The staff member was sympathetic and did even better, giving me a full round raincheck. Big points for the staff rating.
I returned today and played the entire course in just over three hours. The course conditions are fantastic. The greens are ridiculously perfect, fastest I have played on in a long time. You can actually get a 50-60 foot put to the hole, and then some. The layout is both challenging and beautiful, especially with the leaves changing, in about ten days or so it will be a visual spectacular.
Course knowledge is an absolute necessity. There are a LOT of totally blind tee shots. If you are not in the fairway there is a high probability you will not find your ball on numerous holes. The rough is very unforgiving as well, especially on holes like 14 (second shot) and 16, no fairway probably equals a lost ball. 16 is a crazy downhill called the ski slope, and it certainly is. Don't get above the hole on 18 green or you'll have nothing but a steep downhill.
The is one condition that is totally unsatisfactory, the bunkers. They don't drain and many of them are small ponds. The ones that are dry are gravel pits or hardpan, not sand. We could not play out of them and had to take a drop. A little less concerning, but annoying, was that a hot dog and a bottle of water was almost $9.00.
Overall, I love this course and, having played all over the world, this is a definite must play if you are in the area.
Top Notch
Does not get much better than this, especially for the money. Layout and conditions (even how much rain there has been the past 2 months). Challenging design, very slopey with akward shots even off the fairway. Definately not for beginners. I drive 1hr20min at least once or twice per season to play here.
Great experimce. Play was very slow. Course was in fantastic shape.
Superb!
The Ranch will always be my favorite local golf course. There is nothing like it in Western Massachusetts. I wish I could afford to play there more often, but I only go there on special occasions like birthdays. I played Sunday with my sons and one of my son’s girlfriend, and we had a fantastic outing from our greeting at the club drop to our lunch at the 19th hole. The Ranch is always a magical day!
Very nice course
Drove an hour and a half to get there. But was well worth the drive. Beautiful course and a great layout!!
Great course!
Every hole was interesting, loved the undulation changes and design! Will be back for sure!
Disappointed
I always try to play The Ranch, once or twice, a year.
The weather, rain and humidity, have not been kind to courses. The greens were in horrible shape and I am sure most of it is due to the weather. But they were also pretty beat up. Plus it was cart paths only so you had to do a lot of walking and a few times I had to carry my bag because I didnt know what yardage I would have for my next shot.
Great course in the Hartford Springfield area
This course was a very fair layout with wide fairways. Conditions were extremely good. Greens leaned toward the fast side. I was a single on a Hot Deal rate. Others I played with paid in the $90's. I recommend this course.
