Golfers standing on the Ranch’s first tee might feel, for a second, that they’re on a links course. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The seventh green. This hole is typical of the par-4’s here: fairly long and definitely challenging. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The ninth, par-5, 540. “Glacier,” as this hole is dubbed, plays straight downhill. And a bad drive may lead to a “meltdown.” Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Sixteen, par-5, 618. Another dramatic downhiller named “Ski Hill,” which certainly suggests the thrill of playing it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The 18th: par-4, 438. A fitting closer, but also a hole that captures the beauty of New England golf at its finest. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

One of the best layouts in New England
When you live in New England and talk about the best courses in the area The Ranch comes up a lot in the conversation. I will say that the layout is one of the best that I've ever seen. It reminds me a lot of other New England courses that have several elevation changes. Courses like the Shattuck Inn in Jaffrey New Hampshire and Red Tail in Devens,MA come to mind. As for the condition of this course I was a little down as the bunkers were gravelly and not very sandy and the greens were pretty inconsistent. The fairways were some of the best fairways I've ever played on and the rough and fescue outside the rough made for a true test of my game. Though this course is tougher than some other ones in the state sometimes that's not what it's all about. The service was also a letdown. Playing as a twosome, we got to the turn and the threesome in front of us was nice enough to wait there and told us to play through we had ordered food from the golf cart on the eighth tee box, we told these gentlemen we were going to run in,grab our food and then run to the tenth tee. Sadly, no one in the restaurant looked and saw that we had ordered food and when we told the girl at the bar about our order she grabbed it off of the printer gave it to the cook and then we never saw her again. We were delayed almost 10 minutes waiting for our food, two hotdogs, and by the time we got to the 10th tee the threesome in front of us had already teed off. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in playing one of the best layouts in all of New England but past the golf I wouldn't expect much more.
Great course
The layout is excellent, challenging but fair. I did really enjoy the round. It helped that a 4-some let the 2 of us play through
great day, and played well, too
Arrived early for a Sunday afternoon round. was a little disappointed to find out that practice balls now cost extra, but the tee was open and the woman let me out early on my own. The pace was fine, I had time to roll a few extra putts, and actually line some up. The course was wet in a few spots and the greens suffer from people who don't fix their ball marks. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and will definitely go back. The course is fair, if you keep it in the fairway. Some of the greens are big so the GPS in the cart is helpful as it gives you exact yardage to the pin. Some of the pins were awfully tight to the edges. No matter, the weather was great.
Great course
The Ranch is a great place to play golf. The course is always in great condition. Very friendly staff and beautiful facilities.
The views on this course are some of the best in the area. The course is very challenging from the back tees, but also has the need for precision shots from the forward tees. One down fall I had was the GPS. Either ours was not working correctly or the course yardage seems to be way off. A few par threes for instance the GPS was 25 yards different then the yard marker and the GPS phone app that we had. I will just make sure I have my laser with me next time. Over all a great course to play at a fare rate through golf now.com
Favorite Course in Western MA
One of my favorite courses in the state, especially in Western MA. Not many courses can compare to the overall experience The Ranch has to offer. I've played here a handful of times over the past couples years and it continues to impress. Sets the standard for public courses in the area.
Now that I've found GolfNow I can hopefully play more often on the discount rates. A little expensive during peak season but is still worth every last $$
The Ranch...
This is probably the nicest course in all of Western Massachusetts. Normally it costs between $65 to $75 to play this awesome course. With the fire deal on Golf Now my friend and I played for $28 each. Fantastic price, fantastic course, on a fantastic day. Thank You Golf Now!
A little early.....
Love playing this course and it definitely one of the nicest around this area, but it's early in the year and the greens were just aerated and were literally almost unplayable..... The ball was hopping around everywhere. They should definitely find a way to let you know the current conditions at the course before you book on golf now. Anyway still have the course a great rating because I've played it many times and it's usually pristine. Customer service there is also second to none and the staff is super friendly.
Wonderful Day
Great experience at the Ranch today! Fairways were excellent. Spring greens were fine! Wonderful day with friends! Get out and play at the Ranch!
Nice course
Nice and fun course but not really worth the $100 they charge for weekend play
awsome course
i play this course at least once a year, sometimes twice. i'm from randolph so this is a long trip. the fee includes driving range, car (needed!) and use of locker/showers afterward (they supply the towels). as for the course, what more can i say than IT IS FUN. with hole names like ETERNITY, FISHBOWL (or similiar) i have a great time even if i'm playing lousy. the staff is always friendly and eagar to help. and did i mention that they have beer in the beverage car.
The Ranch
The course was in great shape as usual. I have only played The Ranch 3 times and apsolutely love the course. Customer service is top notch. We played a threesome for free that was awarded to me for booking 40 rounds. Unfortunately, The Ranch is very expensive, so this round was a special treat.
Great late season golf!
This course is amazing! I heard that they lost 3 greens this season but at this point they are all back. You can clearly tell which three they lost as they are discolored but the ball rolls perfectly on them so it's not a problem at all. I absolutely love this course and the layout. Highly recommended!
amazing course with great conditions
Played with my son and consider this course to be one of New Englands best . We were very happy with the conditions and the staff is super friendly . If you are looking for a " field of dreams " experience . This is the place . The Ranch is a top notch facility .
this course is a must play
The Ranch is great course. always in excellent condition.
EXCELLENT COURSE
GREAT COURSE--PERFECT CONDITIONS-GREAT VIEWS--UPS AND DOWNS--GPS CARTS
Very, very nice!
Generous, plush fairways and really nice greens. It's pretty hard to find a ball that is beyond the rough...I finished with only one ball left in my bag! I'll definitely make the drive to play The Ranch again.
Head West to The Ranch
How do you say NO to $40 to play a great trac. It's a bit of a drive from south of Boston but I picked a perfect day. 75 and sunny with little wind. I played as a single and flew throught the first 4 holes. I was even par which is rare for me. Each hole had its danger to throw up a large score. I followed the directions on the GPS and Suprisingly hit the correct shot. Some of the holes on the front 9 have either blind shots or you are hitting over waste land. It would be nice to play it twice and I think I could lower my score of 85.
The tee boxes, fairway and greens were in good shape. I had called a couple times this summer and they have warned me about three temp greens. No sense driving 2 hours for that. When I called on Saturday they were all open. After the 5 hole things slowed down dramatically . I jumped in with 3 guys and they were lots of fun. At the turn there were 3 groups on 10. We waited 20+ minutes and the waiting didn't stop. A ranger would have been nice. I never saw one but I did see guys hitting three balls off the tee. These guys didn't belong on a course at all. A range maybe if I was wearing a hard hat.
A couple holes really stand out because of elevation changes. They drop hundreds of feet and if you have a decent drive can make you feel like John Daly with the extended roll...... I think some of the holes need a bell after you finish your second shot. A group behind us either didn't know how to read the monitor or just didn't care because blind tee shots down hill were landing over our heads. I am sure a couple confrontations have taken place on hole 9 and 16.
I also found cart yardage off on the par 3's 4 and 17. In both case by 20+ years. On 17 that puts you in the pond.
Overall I liked the course and would love to play it again in the future. I will admit it cost more in gas than it cost to play 18 even when they charge an extra $5.00 for golf balls. Not sure if I would pay the normal price of $110 plus balls and almost $50 in gas.
Mostly well maintained
Always a very good day at the ranch. Most fairways in very good shape with a few bare spots. Some greens (4 / 18) require immediate attention due to significant browning. Tee boxes in great shape with the course playing slightly less than spring time.
Nice layout course staff very personable,
Had 3 temporary greens so they cut the price a bit. Otherwise excellent condition greens medium fast and nice layout.
Should warn about maintance
Disappointed to see course had three temporary greens in August.
This should have been known before booking tee time.
It didn't help that they would be reopening them in a couple of days.
Probably because of the course conditions there was very little play so little that the beverage cart operator returned it to the shed and grabbed clubs and joined the group in front of us to slow play up.
You should have some kind of warning system for courses that are not up to their normal standards.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Course conditions are listed right on the home page. I've found the Ranch has always been completely honest about this sort of issue. Other courses are not nearly as forthcoming.
