Golfers standing on the Ranch’s first tee might feel, for a second, that they’re on a links course. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The seventh green. This hole is typical of the par-4’s here: fairly long and definitely challenging. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021
-
The ninth, par-5, 540. “Glacier,” as this hole is dubbed, plays straight downhill. And a bad drive may lead to a “meltdown.” Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Sixteen, par-5, 618. Another dramatic downhiller named “Ski Hill,” which certainly suggests the thrill of playing it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

The 18th: par-4, 438. A fitting closer, but also a hole that captures the beauty of New England golf at its finest. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/19/2021

Very nice layout but greens are in need of attention.
Actually I was disappointed. Took my son who had played there previously and raved about course. However, course was not in very good shape. Multiple greens were very bad with replacement grass being rolled down. My son noted that course was no where close to previous conditions.
The Ranch in August 2013
Super tough but fair except for several blind tee shots without sufficient guidance. Temp greens were kept well-unfortunate to have them. Course being maintained well as fairways and other greens were nice. Starter was A+ but pro shop help was aloof and distant-find another job. Would definitely play again hoping course was healed. In perfect shape, course was worth 90 a round inclusive of cart and range
Poor conditions for price
This is the worst condition at the ranch I have seen in the three times I have played there. I know they punched the greens a couple week ago and some are back and some aren't. No sign on golf now for aerating and every green had different speeds. There were three temp greens and we got a hot deal so it was 55 dollars. Unable to get are money back girl was not to friendly at desk. Hole one had was being aerated and had little dirt poo all over it. Had to move dirt take approach shot. No wondering they are charging 65 dollars all week. Should be more like 25. Good way to rip people off. At least your fairways were still nice. Thanks for the hose job.
Terribly kept course, great potential but lacks the extra effort required for their pricing
Currently a $45-50 golf course, if it was kept well it could be a $75 course, don't reccomend it at all this year w temp greens and rocky sand traps
with several temp greens and aerated others, still a good value
with several temp greens and aerated others, still a good value and a pleasure to play
Poor Conditions for the money.
I was disappointed by the conditions of the greens. There were three temporary greens and several of the others were in very poor condition. The course made it clear that they had aerated, but it wasn't clear on the website that they were in very poor condition as well. Also, there were lots of rocks in the sand traps. On hole 18, I hit a softball sized rock with my sand wedge that was just under the surface of the sand which damaged my wedge. I could not believe that a 100 per round course would have rocks in the sand. The tee boxes and fairways were immaculate.
The Ranch is one of the most hyped courses in Massachusetts
The Ranch is always in pristine condition, but they have lost a number of greens, five or six and it has never been worth the hundred plus dollars they normally charge. That being said it was a fun day, but it doesn't rank up there in difficulty with Crump'n Fox, which I only mention because their greens fees are similarly upscale...
visually appealing
Presently, many of the greens are extremely poor due to a
disease condition.
The tee boxes and fairways are above average in condition.
The layout of the course and visual features are well above
average.
The restaurant is also well above average for a golf course.
Poor greens
They told us when we arrived that they had aerated 7 greens which is 100% correct. What they didn't tell us is that they had already lost all 7. The greens on holes #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #11 and #15 were unplayable. They are quickly losing holes #8 and #18 they were still puttable as of Sunday 7/28. There is absolutley no way to putt on any of the greens mentioned. The should close them put in temps and let them heal. For the amount of money to play here this is very disappointing
Not an inexpensive course but worth the money. Very nice layout and conditions.
This is the second time I have played the Ranch and will be back. Course layout is challenging and conditions are very good. We live in Connecticut and it makes for a nice road trip with friends. Only negative is the woman working the beverage cart. She was an older woman and very rude and nasty. I have played courses from the TPC in Cromwell to Crumpin Fox and have never been treated so poorly. Staff in the restaurant were aware of her attitude and previous complaints. Not sure why such a nice place would allow this conduct from an employee.
Outstanding
I missed my tee time by 20 minutes due to traffic but the kind folks in the clubhouse sent me right out and I caught up with a threesome in no time. The starter fully explained everything including the GPS which every course should have. The only negative would be that the beverage cart stopped running a little too soon.
Greens are a disappointment
Let me preface this review by saying The Ranch is my favorite course in N.E. This was my third time playing it. The service is second to none. The tee boxes are like greens on public courses. The fairways were Augusta like. It is like walking on a sponge. I have never played on better fairways. The greens were a supreme disappointment. The greens on the holes of lower elevation were slow and had grey spots on them. The greens on the holes of higher elevation are absolutely shot. They were totally burned. The 15th green had no grass on it. They were doing everything they could ( hand watering and large fans to cool them) but I don't know if they can be saved. I got a great rate from Golf Now ( 46 bucks and a 25% off coupon which cam out to 34.) but I wouldn't pay anymore than 50 bucks unless the greens situation changes.
Mediocre
Most of the greens were a complete mess with ball marks. What a shame since layout of the course is nice.
Greens just aerated due, but great course.
Great course and value. They just had a member guest so greens were a bit beat up and aerated, but still were rolling true.
Price
Course was great. However when we booked our times we reserved them for 50 a man. Upon arriving the girl in the shop told us that was for only nine holes I know it's a great course but we felt duped and forced to pay te 70
Good Course, Bad Carts
Great course, nice layout and great price. Another review mentioned the dirty carts and i thought they were just overly picky until i saw how fitly these carts are. They really need to start cleaning their carts. I'm no expecting a showroom shine but it would require nothing more then a hose and rag to get the dirt off of these things.
Pristine conditions, generous fairways, but penalizing if you miss them.
High quality course of moderate difficulty. Highly recommended
This course has the feel of a TPC course
Wow!!!! what a nice track! if you live nearby Southwick Mass you need to play this course at least once. Pristine conditions beautiful views outstanding golf course.
Every hole was an unique experience
What a beautiful day. Not the best day but a nice day with friends. How many of you had said that before? 77 degrees, a little wind and plenty of sunshine. The greens rolled beautifully. It took a little while to get used to them but once you made the adjustment to the speed they were true. We played the whites which made it more pleasurable for two of our senior guys (Todd & Arnie). I wasn't able to use the driver as much as I would have liked to and when I did use it and shouldn't have I paid for it. I would like to go back and try the blues to see if it opens the course up a little bit. The bunkers were very inconsistent and most were not raked at all. Some areas should be more clearly identified. It would have been helpful if the card or the electronic thigamagig in the Kart told us what was OB and Red Staked. Go in the ruff and your in trouble. I suppose its the challenge of the course however I would have rather had a first cut of ruff off the fair way maybe a inch or inch in a half rather than three inches. I hit some pretty descent shots that barely rolled off the fair way and into the ruff and definitely paid for it. Mixed emotions about that. The starter and Marshall's were exceptionally friendly and did a great job spotting a few blind shots. The staff in the pro shop and dining area were just the opposite. They were not very friendly, were not able to answer detailed questions and the service at the turn was abnormally slow. I believe they were getting ready for a large outing and we were last on their list to please. Otherwise, I would definitely play it again but only if I had a Golf Now discount that kept the price at $85 or less. $75 seems to be a fair price for a course of that caliber however I would never play there if it was at there normal rate of $110. My team won a small amount of money for the day otherwise I probably wouldn't have taken the time to write this. Ha
Absolutly Beautiful !!
This was one of my top 5 courses. I'm not rich so I haven't played the typical top ones you always hear about. I live in the Northwest so I've played Chambers Bay, Gold Mt / Olympic, Coeur d'Alene Resort, All the Suncadia resort courses, all the courses in Whistler BC and many very nice southern Ca courses for example. This beat them all.
It was set up tournament quality. 5" of rough everywhere greens at 11+. Very fun and challenging. You don't get to play this level of place very often. Could be very frustrating for players with hdcp of 18 or more. At least when I played.
