No need for driver
A decent test of golf on a course you can't really blast your way around.
Beginner Course and Cheap (not for a golfer)
It's okay, but book too many people in on the off peak times. Winter tees are not level and no space for any tees. So hopefully you love hitting off the mat. Can busy fast with slow golfers who have no curtsey to let players through when looking for balls or "reading the greens" when the green is covered in leaves are is as thick as most fairways. The fairway is as thick as most roughs. Worst hole on the course is the third (par 4) such a bad slope where even if you hit the rough to the right it will roll 50yards through the fairway onto the other side of the rough. It's badly maintaimed meaning you can easily lose balls on the fairway. Worst offenders are the green keepers who use headphones so there's no way you can let them know the ball is heading their way (balls of steel). With the discount the course is okay (£6) for beginners. Would stay away if you're a golfer.
Oversubscribed
As soon as we arrived at the first tee there were a foursome ahead of us waiting to tee off. They were kept waiting past our tee off time by a couple of very poor ability golfers. A queue soon developed as the first hole is also the tenth hole on this course. As soon as the foursome ahead of us tee,d off we knew that it was going to be a long round as they too were poor golfers. We played the first hole a-par three and then tried to play the second par five. However we were kept waiting at every stroke due to the group ( groups) ahead of us. It was impossible to get any rhythm into our game as there were too many golfers on the course who had no idea of what “can we play through meant”. On the bright side it was only £8 each but we will never play there again.
Winter Tees need work. Great value and a challenging course.
Winter tee boxes need a way to put a tee in the mat and could do with being level. Ideal for the par 3s but I can't hit a Driver off the floor I.e. hole 8. Great value for money though.
Golf on a Ridgeway
Lovely staff
Greens in great nick
Tees a bit over used
Great attempt to make 9 holes different to each other
Some challenging holes with small greens, make it very interesting.
Signature holes are the 2nd and 3rd, both on the rigde. The 2nd is a tight out of bounds hole and the 3rd needs a left to right shot as you have to aim for the right trees to hold the fairway.
Enjoyed my round (it's a work out physically too!)
Lovely course
Course is kept in really good condition. Greens are fast and well maintained. Fairways are always 'smooth' and the semi rough is nice to play off.
Really good round of golf.
Good if your starting out
I have just turned to golf as a game after COVID and old age hit other sports. I have played this course last 3 weekends after about 10 sessions on a driving range so this course is perfect for me as a first up course. Yes the bunkers and greens are not on a par with others but they are large enough to give you a challenge as does the course generally with its hills, fairways and trees.
Nice course
It’s a nice little course but the green keeper could have a little more training on what to do when people are playing the hole he stayed on the green and waved us on to play the shot and we watched him cutting another green and someone played a shot on to the green and he just stood there but lifted his mower up..
Nice little course
Lovely day of this hilly shorter course where you play round the 9 holes twice.
Staff were very welcoming and helpful, especially as a wedding was there.
Conditions were nice and value for money and not too busy either.
Thank you we will return again
Great value for money
Played for a small fee, not a bad course great value
Great mountain find
So after looking online at a few courses too play and maybe join to play regular again. Ridgeway ticked all the boxes and also has a good range (with cheap deals) , chipping area and when covid ends a 19th hole. Not the longest course but you do need your full bag to work your way around all 18 holes,
Two holes change on the back nine to make it slightly different when coming back in, grab a card as compared to online or watches all the holes are changed.
There are markers on most of the par 4/5 so you can work out club selection, the greens are in great condition and the fairwats well cut. Finally staff are friendly and all round in the current climate well looked after and run Golf Club.
An okay course but don’t expect to much
For £10 all the time this is an okay course. 9 holes twice round. You won’t really need your driver, three wood was only used 6 times. The course is short. The fairways are wide. So if you’re new or a beginner it would be ideal. It has its challenges. What’s also good is that you can hit some balls on the range and then head out on course. It’s easy to navigate. People were friendly on course. It’s a quick 18 holes 2.20hrs for me.
The fairway is to long. There is to much sand on the greens but at the same time okay to play. The bunkers may as well not be there as it’s just hard compressed sand. There isn’t to much personality with the course tho.
I will go back so that’s good but I wouldn’t want to play there on a weekly basis.
