MountainView Country Club

About
MountainView Golf Club at Saddlebrooke sits at an elevation of 3,200 feet, offering both dramatic elevation changes and spectacular views. The course sits at the base of the Catalina Mountain range near Tucson, nestled into the mesquite-covered foothills. Gary Panks, the golf course's designer, saw the potential of the landscape and utilized the many natural hazards. He also incorporated subtle mounding and strategically placed bunkers that blend seamlessly into the natural terrain. Panks created a fair challenge with this layout but the wide, player-friendly landing areas makes the golf course approachable for beginners. The second hole is one of the most scenic holes on the course but it is also one of the layout's more difficult holes. Golfers will find a mesquite-filled wash crossing the fairway before facing an uphill shot to a green guarded by trees and bunkers.

Nice course
Good enough course in decent shape. The one problem is the greens. Infested with some type of grass. Not smooth and quite bumpy as the round goes on
Course conditions
Greens need work. Rough and lots of poa. Several fairways have either been painted green or fertilized/weed treated. In any case your ball gets stained green.
Greens need a lot of work
Greens were terrible. Apparently the member association has taken over recently and are trying to fix the course. So will give them time to do so.
Terrible greens
Greens are terrible. There is some sort of crabgrasss on greens that deflects every putt. It's like an obstacle course to putt thtough every time
Disappointed
Almost all the greens are invaded by patches of thick lumpy grasses which made them uncuttable. Also four of the fairways had lost almost all of the grass and were being seeded. Proshop was just an empty room with a counter at which to check in. Not a very pleasant golfing experience despite a very nice track and outstanding views. Will not go back.
Nice Course
Nice course. The greens are in rough shape. The fairways and tee boxes are in great shape. I would play there again, but there are other courses in the area I would play prior to going back.
Do not waste your time or money on this terrible excuse for a golf course!
I have lived in SaddleBrooke for 12+ years and NEVER have I seen this or ANY course in worse condition. Every green is covered with Poana sprigs that render the greens unplayable. If you want to see your putts hop, skip and jump across the green this is the disaster location for you.
Several fairways on each nine have virtually no grass... scalped and painted green with a top layer of green sand they too, much like the greens, are unplayable.
The local HOA was conned in to buying this course along with the Preserve by Robson Communities and while Robson let the courses deteriorate dramatically prior to the completion of the sale they have only gone dramatically downhill since then.
No reduction in fees has occurred so you can be assured of paying far too much though if the green fees were free that would still amount to criminal fraud for the conditions you will encounter on the course.
I have not played the Preserve lately but can only assume that it is fairing no better than Mountainview as the same fools are running both. The only good news is that SaddleBrooke Ranch is in excellent condition and definitely worth your time for a quality round of golf.
I have played this course many times in past years but this was my first and will be my last time this year! I like the course but the GREENS are the worst I have played on-hard to put through weed clumps growing on the greens-If you don't get your greens fixed and put some merchandise in the pro shop you are going to have trouble. We paid $50 and it isn't worth $20-sorry just the fact!
Good Round Ruined
The day started poorly with a "frost delay" of over an hour during which twosomes and threesomes were sent out sporadically. After being promised a possible early tee off than the revised teetime, we actually need off six minutes LATE. Then, after playing the front nine in two hours and nine minutes, a ranger appeared to tell us we needed to speed up our play. When reminded that we were a foursome playing at a good pace behind a threesome and in front of at least two twosomes, he NOT so politely said it didn't matter: we needed to play faster. The twosome closest behind us was two women playing from the forward tees. They never got close enough to request playing through. The ranger hung around around for two holes to make sure we obeyed his order. It was a sour ending to a round started with high expectations.
Greens are in terrible shape.
Great layout but the greens are virtually unputtable - bumpy and two different grasses.
Course just taken over by homeowners so will give some slack but won't be back until significant improvement is made.
Cart path only
Played with another couple and thought it would be sow because of cart path only. Finished in 3:50..Greens have a fair a mount of poanna knocking ball offline on some putts.
Decent Course In Need of Golfer Support
We played Mountainview recently in high winds (40+ MPH) and found our round to be memorable on a well designed, scenic course which clearly is in need of golfer support. As with their sister course The Preserve, the Mountainview Pro Shop is in a period of management transition with vitually no stock on hand. We were told things would return to normal in April. This is a fair test of golf with generous fairways and well guarded greens. Yes the greens were infiltrated by poa which caused putts to roll off line, as reported by others, but this did not take away from our day at Mountainview. I would encourage golfers to support this beautiful golf course as they work to improve course conditions. Playing in such windy conditions was truly a test which we were glad to survive. We even managed to par the 365 yard par 4 , 16th hole dead into a 3 club wind !
Fun and nice
Good layout while being fair.. Women get a equal chance and the boys get adequately challenged
Course needed a lot of attention
We have played Mountainview many times - this time the greens were in poor condition and some of the fairways were in need of attention. Absolutely not a good value for our money. This is too bad as we always looked forward to playing this course.
Greens not overseeded
It would be much better if the greens were over seeded. The areas that are over seeded are in very good shape. Fairways on 3-4 holes not over seeded either. Hopefully next year they will over seed the greens and all the fairways.
Pace of play was quite slow once we catch the pack. Typical for this time of year.
The course is in great shape. Only small complaint is the poanna on the greens. It can change the roll of the golf ball. If it gets worse it could be a big problem. Pace of play was great. Fun course...
