Moose Ridge Golf Course

About
Moose Ridge Golf Club sprawls across rolling hills blanketed with mature trees and accented with colorful wildflowers. There are more than 90 feet of elevation changes throughout the course, but there are more challenges than the hilly terrain. Well defined bunkers lurk along the greens and acres of wetlands come into play. It's easy to get distracted on this visually stunning golf course, but it's a test that requires all of your attention. The first hole is challenging but gentler than the next three holes, which is one of the toughest sequences in the area. The second and thrid are long uphill par 4s and the fourth is a narrow par 5 with a marsh-protected green. Moose Ridge Golf Club's back nine opens more gently but the respite doesn't last for long. The 15th is one of the most challenging holes, starting with a tee shot over water and followed by an approach to a narrow green.

Moose Ridge
While this is not especially long from the white tees, it's all about the second shot here. You get a real "up-north" feel with all the elevation changes and the trees surrounding the course. I struggle to hit a 200 yard drive but most of the holes are short enough that I was able to use a mid iron to get to the green (if only I was that accurate). Greens are in great shape and putts roll true.
Nice Tough but Fair Course, but....
I live about 15 miles away & try to get out here at least 1x per year. It is tough course, but, is fair (with 1-2 exceptions) & is always in very good shape. A little pricey, but, worth it for the most part. 2 things keep it from 5 stars:
1. Hole 8 should be ripped out & start over. Totally blind shot on the 2nd over a huge mound/bunker. That's fine, but, there shouldn't be OB 2 feet off the green when you can't see the flag or the approach. Either a blind shot or the OB is fine. Combined it makes it a terrible hole. Hole 15 should have the tees moved up. Just too long of a carry over the water for most players. We usually play the blues, but, play the whites on this hole to make it playable.
2. Carts are terrible. They lock you out when you're in the rough saying it's a "nature area". It's impossible to tell what is rough & what is a nature area. Also, a few cart path only holes can really slow down play. Lastly, the ads are intrusive. Feels like I had to touch the screen every hole to get rid of some ad/notice to get back to the scorecard/hole layout. Very annoying.
Gold standard
Moose Ridge was nothing short of spectacular. From the hospitality to the course itself, this exceeded expectations. Johnny at the pro shop greeted a couple of Texas boys with such professionalism and kindness, we felt right at home. Would definitely come back. Thank you Johnny and all staff for an amazing experience.
Scratch Golfer
Great track..... in my back yard. Greens were an 8 at best. Tee boxes were the same as the fairway and rough.
Don't waste your time or money.
What happened
Moose ridge used to be a premium golf course in Oakland County. No longer. The tee boxes were horrific and the greens and fairways reminded me of a fair municipal course. Look to other local courses to spend your money.
Toughest Course in Metro Detroit
I have played pretty much all public courses in South East Michigan. I consider Moose Ridge probably the most challenging course, narrow, slope, undulated greens. Very tight fairways., strategically placed deep bunkers, need to position your drives, Strongly recommend, most beautiful layout.
Not quite what it used to be
At arrival, the staff was awesome. We were playing on a weekday and life had caused us to be late and they were very accommodating. That said, the price to pay was $55 for 9 holes. The course used to be immaculate. If it were it’d be worth the price. The greens were really beat up though.
From the first hole until the last, you can enjoy every bit of it.
Probably my favorite course to play, this is one the best maintained courses from its greens to its greetings you will have a wonderful time.
Up North Feel in Mid Michigan
The course had an excellent layout, if I had woken up on the first tee I would have thought I was at a resort course in Northern Michigan. The elevation changes made for a tricky round, I would recommend playing a tee up from what you normally play unless you are up for the challenge. The yardages on the card shouldn’t be your main focus as the course seemed to play much longer. The fairways were great, make sure to spend as much time in them as possible because the rough was punishing and made par much more difficult. Only complaint was that the greens had a lot of pitch marks, that’s not on the course however that’s on the golfers that had played there recently. If you can manage a weekday round I’d strongly suggest to do so because the green fees on the weekend are a little pricey. The course reserves the right to ask for $95 but at that rate I’m expecting nearly flawless conditions.
Could play here every day!!!
What can I say! This place was amazing and the staff was even better than amazing! Mr John the starter was so accommodating and friendly! Paired me with regular, Ali, who helped me with all the dangers lurking on the course. Place was in beyond impeccable conditions. Could play this course every day!
Moose Ridge
This course is beautiful but way too difficult to play for the average player unless you love losing balls and scoring in the high 90’s or more
Don’t go here!
We had a foursome come up to play today and the course is absolutely amazing. Your golf carts are literally the worst carts on th planet with how gps boundaries are configured. Anyone playing should be refunded 50%. When you are driving down a cart path and the gps makes you back up to drive forward is unacceptable and it shows the laziness of those running the course. To correct the gps issue is easy. I can help if needed. Your carts are the worst experience for any golfer. Please ask for a refund from your supplier as they worked you over completely your carts are useless!
What a joke
6.5 hours for $90, I know it’s the weekend but to have 6 groups on 1 hole with a middle school ranger…. Do better. Never write reviews but my bloods boiling after how poorly managed this course is. Greens look like a crater field as nobody has fixed a divot in what looks like years. Unreal
