Scotland Yards Golf Club

About
Scotland Yards Golf Club, as its name implies, has a traditional links-style layout that is reminiscent of the traditional links courses of England and Scotland. It offers the experience of classic Scottish golf with the convenient of being only 20 miles north of Tampa. The golf course tumbles across the gently rolling hills of west central Florida. The course plays long and it features wildly undulating greens that require tremendous accuracy. True to its links nature, there is little water but there are plenty of pot bunkers treacherously lurking throughout. The signature hole is the par-5 second. At 554 yards, it is the longest hole on the course and it is only rarely reached in two. The demanding third shot is uphill to a green that is fiercely guarded in front by two massive mounds and pot bunkers.

Very nice
Played and paid much more for a high end round of golf. Scotland yards is in outstanding condition and far better than many high end courses.
Not so friendly
The old man at the front was very rude when I asked for a rain check. It rained very heavy, and the course was not playable. Since I reserved online, he very rudely said there’s nothing he can do and cut me short as I was trying to ask for my other voucher or anything. Course seemed to be nice, but definitely not coming back. I’d rather go to other courses nearby that have friendlier staff. It takes less effort to be friendly than it does to be a rude old man.
Lack of notification and pace.........
This is by no means intended to discourage folks from playing this course. I play here 5-10 times a year, and will be back. I also want to point out that the staff is always friendly. What that being said, no one informed us the greens had been punched OR that a number of holes on the front 9 had standing water. There was so much water that the first hole had a pump running to clear water out of the pond to allow the fairway to drain. Another hole was so flooded that they had OB markers out into the fairway. Additionally, many of the greens hadn't been completely sanded which only enhanced the irregular roll while putting. Not the end of the world, it's decent place to play for the money but it's always disappointing when courses aren't up front with conditions. Then there is the pace of play, it is "average" which doesn't say much over the last 5 years. This course does what many others do, the starter verifies who you are and that you paid but there is zero management of tee times. The starters need to push folks to get off the tee on time and hold the next group until their time. Then have the ranger watching to ensure people are playing at an acceptable pace. I'm here to enjoy the game like everyone else but when my 11 year old is asking what grown adults are doing and why they are taking so long there is a problem. The only way to correct this is to have the courses hold folks accountable. Yes, we can help with our group but I would rather not have to police others, and I don't because frankly it is not my course.
Nice layout. Tiny greens
The staff at the course was great. The course layout was nice. Overall, the course was in good condition, although it was aerated and not mentioned until we got on the green. I highly recommend the Philly cheesesteak in the bar and Grill. Would definitely play again.
Does anyone replant Bermuda grass any more ?
The course is suffering from the heat and lack of rain. Greens are being lost to bare spots, as are the fairways, where there are large bare spots and spots on the fairway that are covered by weeds. Courses in this area never seem to replant Bermuda grass, even watering will not correct the bare spots, it will take replanting of grass seed and fertilization.
Take care of your golf course
I have been playing this course for a white, I am a single digit handicap and I play many nice mint condition golf courses. So I am not expecting this course to be mint. So here is the reason I am giving it two.
Pace of play - majority of the time when I play I have the first tee time. And by the time I get to the tee it is already piled up people who has late tee time and won't even acknowledge that someone is behind them ready to hit. Have happened to me many times. So I have to skip holes to get ahead of them.
Starter - Good part is he lets you play single double or triple. Which fine or if you are one the early tee times. Bad part is, he shouldn't do that when it is starting to pack up. They are friendly but there is a gray line when it is busy.
Condition - So I know when I play this course is going to be in ok condition. And they don't charge you a lot to play there. Which is understandable. But last Saturday I had the first tee time.. And pros hop told me to wait till 7 so I don't catch up with maintenance guys. We did wait and couple single old dudes took off. But when we came to the greens they were extremely dirty. Only on the 8th holes we say they cut and greens and rolled them. we find out they started the maintenance from the back 9. Why?. On top of the greens where punched and there was no discount. Puts were rolling like 5. Compared to cut and rolled green were 7 at the most. but more consistence.

Maybe make some friends to play with. A single he no rights.

Didn't understand any of the review. Course is good condition, pace is good. Staff very friendly. Maybe this 5-9 handicaper needs to learn a little edicate.
just found this diamond golf course. plenty of grass on fairways, & tee boxes. wide fairways, little water really enjoyed the game.
BC 4 14 25
Course is in good condition overall. Greens are good. Fairways good. Water has receeded except along # 5, far left side. Pace was a little slow today, but just over 4 hours.
have not played here in a while, very pleasant surprise. grass on the fairways, well-kept bunkers, plus great rolling greens. some of the BEST PRICES for a great round.
Golfnow is responsible for refund ,not golf course. U need to read gn rules.
