Timacuan Golf Club

About
Nestled in the gently rolling hills of Lake Mary Timacuan is a Ron Garl designed course. The front nine is reminiscent of a Scottish links-style course, with wide open fairways, rolling hills and deep bunkers. Watch the wind and keep it low!
Waste bunkers garnish the back and water comes into play on several holes. In a poll, GolfWeek Magazine ranked Timacuan the 14th best course in the state. Bobby Weed renovated the course in 1996. The course is located just 15 minutes from downtown Orlando and winds through beautiful lakes and wooded areas.
Hole No. 2 is rated as "most challenging in Central Florida"

This course should not be open.
If I could give it zero stars, I would. The starter and thean in the pro shop were nice enough. And, because no one is stupid enough to shell out actual money to play here, the course was deserted, so there were no waiting.
That's it for positives. This course should not be open. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, and greens are simply unplayable. Golf Now should tag this course with a disclaimer similar to when greens are aerated, or if it's cart path/ 90º rule due to standing water is on the course.
The disclaimer should read: "This was once a nice golf course but is now in unbelievably bad shape. Please understand that you're not actually going to be able to play 'golf' here."
Course conditions
Didn’t mention that hole 2 was under construction and you had to play from 100 yards out. Tee boxes and greens were in really poor condition.
Terrible condition
Nonwarnings from the pro shop or Golfnow. Tee boxes were terrible with some recently sanded and covered in 1" of sand and no grass. One par 4 hole was under construction and turned into a par 3. Fairways were extremely dry and not much grass. Very disappointing and wish I could get some money back
stay away! sucks doesn't cover it
There's nothing good about this place. Honestly.
Just
.. no.
Tee boxes, fairways, greens, all trash and mostly under repair and just sand. Wish they told you, but no, they charge you Max price. I played three holes and they refused to give me a refund.
Just, don't.
Course is in worse shape I’ve ever seen anywhere
So sad. Timicuan golf course was in absolutely the worse shape it could be in. There was pretty much no grass or very little grass on the course! Your ball would hit the fairway and sand splashes up. The greens were okay bit the Tee boxes and fairways were a disaster. I do not think any maintenance, watering, seeding, or anything has been put on that course in many months. I would not recommend this course to anyone. I would wait until next year and check it out first. Very sad because the course has a nice layout.
Sad
The course is very run down as compared to a few years ago before it went to a private course and now is public course again.
I played in the evening and there was only 2 other golfers on the course at 4pm. The clubhouse is shut down and there was no food or beverages to be purchased when we made the turn and the golf shop that's located across from the clubhouse was closed and no one was there. Real shame what the course has become.
Waste of land
This course may have been something years ago, but now . . . It is really a sad excuse for a course. Generally I give a course the benefit of the doubt and would try to play twice to provide an honest opinion. However this course was so bad it isn’t even on a radar. The club house is a joke, the people in the clubhouse were indifferent. I seemed to be bother to them. The only good thing was the bartender who grabbed me a couple of beers. She was friendly and attentive. Don’t waste your time or dollars!
Great day of golfing
Haven't played course in 6 years. It is a good layout, condition was good and I will be back. There are a lot of blind water hazards. It would be nice if there were some poles marking water edges. Or maybe signs with info. Otherwise you will have to drive up to look for yourself and that slows play down.
All Good Except for Slow Play
The tee boxes and greens are in good shape, Fairways are OK for winter play. The only issue: we were behind a very slow foursome that took too much time looking for lost golf balls in the woods and the water.
Greens are great but…. Yeah.. That’s it.
Well my original post was denied because it was inappropriate… the only positive thing about the course is the greens. Bad tee boxes, bad / NO service, fairways are equal to any cow pasture in the state of FL. Overall just bad.. it’s such a shame because this place used to be great. I do NOT recommend wasting your money here.
Timacuan conditions
This is the first time I have played Timacuan looking horrible. Greens were in good shape but the course was horrid. Was able to get on quickly but was behind 2 members which had nobody in front of them and didn’t allow me to play through. Just rude. Golf etiquette very poor. Definitely not worth the money.
Looks abandoned
I don’t know if this place is going throw a refurbish or if it’s between owners or something but this course looked horrendous. $70 for dirt. Ended up not even playing because I don’t even think I’d spend $40 on this course. Maybe it was nice at one point?
Great layout
It’s a shame this course has such potential. Booked HD. Greens were about the only nice thing. Rolled well just very firm. Certain fairways were a barren wasteland. Some tee boxes were ok others not so much. Not really sure which direction this course is going.
Sad course condition
I’ve heard many good thinks about this area and the course. Unfortunately the condition of the course was surprisingly poor. Water management seems to be an issue with dying grass and washed out areas. Tee boxes were dead. Grassy mounds were sand. Not sure what happened to this course.
Would absolutely recommend this course!
The course layout was beautiful great challenges and good shots over water were the theme. Pace of play was great and staff was extremely friendly. It was my first time playing here and will be adding it to the shortlist for any future rounds. Reviews seemed overly critical but aside from some inconsistent bunkers there can be no complaints.
Review
This course could be great. It has a fun layout but the conditions need to vastly improve, especially for a private course! Very disappointing conditions for a private course! The green fees should never be more than $60 until they improve
