Timacuan Golf Club

About
Nestled in the gently rolling hills of Lake Mary Timacuan is a Ron Garl designed course. The front nine is reminiscent of a Scottish links-style course, with wide open fairways, rolling hills and deep bunkers. Watch the wind and keep it low!
Waste bunkers garnish the back and water comes into play on several holes. In a poll, GolfWeek Magazine ranked Timacuan the 14th best course in the state. Bobby Weed renovated the course in 1996. The course is located just 15 minutes from downtown Orlando and winds through beautiful lakes and wooded areas.
Hole No. 2 is rated as "most challenging in Central Florida"

Second Chance!!
Played this course before it needs some work. Although it was much better than the last time I played. Like many courses when management let the course go down it takes time rebuild. In order to drive more golfers to want to play at the course make the improvements clean up the fairways, and tee boxes, and rest rooms should be clean and all have running water. I'll give you a second chance...it was better than before keep working on the course.
what could be...if only....
all it could take is a top of the profession greens keeper and a little do-rey-mi.. this is a private club? imagine how the members feel !
Bad business
So I actually played this course many times but when I played yesterday, I booked my reservation on GolfNow for the rate that was listed and once I got there, the clubhouse told me that they needed to charge me an extra $30 because Golf now got the price wrong. I don’t understand how this was my fault, but I believe this is bad business and I will not be coming back.
Needs some maintenance
The greens were good but the fairways needed a little work. There were no yardage markers. If you didn't have a GPS, you'd just have to guess the yardage left.
They said the Golf now price didn't include the cart fee so I was charged more than was shown on Golf now.
Ran out of golf balls.
This is a first for me. I went to the clubhouse after 9 holes bc I hit some in the water to get more. They ran out of golf balls. How do you own a golf course and run out of the one thing you need. Then had to push to get my money back, wanted to give me a rain check. Only thing I liked was the bartender and the buffet which was hard to find in the empty clubhouse.
They are updating the course
Plan to play this course later in the spring because they are currently updating the course. There was sand on the tee boxes and the fairways needed some new grass.
They need a ranger and a course superintendent
Greens are rolling good but they are super hard for receiving approach shot
Fairway are in bad bad condition
Tee boxes are bad not all of them
They a foursome in front of us. They took a lease 5 1/2 hour to complete the course us as a Tucson took us five hour to complicating holes. The pin position on the greens were ridiculous. I wanna upload some of the pictures that I took it on the course.
Great layout
In general the course is in pretty good shape. I would love to play here more often. Hopefully the rates don't increase. $50 a round would be ideal.
Conditions
Played this course many times over the years but not playing for last 3 years could not believe how this course had dimished in so many ways, sand traps, fairways and in greens. Tough yo see a great course go down hill.
It's Coming Along
From what it was just a few years ago, the course is much improved. Greens are good, fringe is great. Fairways are recipients of the cooler, moister winter weather. If it was in the nineties and sunny, fairways would be sand as they previously were. Challenging layout, just rough around some edges. As renovations to the clubhouse are underway, if you can overlook the work and dont need the amenities, it's a good place to play. Keeping my eye on it to see if the fairways improve.
Better than what I’ve heard
Played with my son, first time playing here. I read a lot of negative reviews. Our experience wasn’t bad. Tees, greens, and around the green were in good shape. There were a few spots here and there but nothing major. Fairways weren’t great but not terrible. part of that could be the time of year. There were people working on the irrigation, so that should help.
Sand traps were all raked but need more sand.
Pace was ok. We were behind a twosome in the front but passed them T the turn and never really saw anybody else.
Layout had some blind shots that will get first timers like us. Next time we would play the tee shot differently.
Playing the island green, surrounded by sand was fun.
They had no prepared food at the turn, so had to wait for a couple sandwiches. Like 10 to 15 minutes. . If it had been busy, then it would have been an issue.
Interesting Layout but Horrible Course Conditions
It is really unfortunate that this course doesn't have the money to spend on course maintenance. It has some really interesting and challenging holes, but the course conditions are unquestionably the worst I have ever played. I would give the course conditions zero stars if this was allowed.
I understand that they tried to go private a few years ago. Based on the course conditions, I think they are much more likely to go out of business. I won't go back until somebody I know tells me that the conditions have improved 1,000%.
Best for the money
This course has the best layout around. Reviews are not always kind because it's a tough course and golfers blame the course when they have trouble scoring. The management is working at getting the course back to it's name of 2000, it just takes time. The greens were in very good shape - best I've seen there in years. That is number one for me, the rest is not as important. This layout for 35.00 is a great deal. When they get the fairways and tees the way they want them, and progress is showing, then you will pay 85.00. I never get tired of playing the Cuan.
