Timacuan Golf Club

About
Nestled in the gently rolling hills of Lake Mary Timacuan is a Ron Garl designed course. The front nine is reminiscent of a Scottish links-style course, with wide open fairways, rolling hills and deep bunkers. Watch the wind and keep it low!
Waste bunkers garnish the back and water comes into play on several holes. In a poll, GolfWeek Magazine ranked Timacuan the 14th best course in the state. Bobby Weed renovated the course in 1996. The course is located just 15 minutes from downtown Orlando and winds through beautiful lakes and wooded areas.
Hole No. 2 is rated as "most challenging in Central Florida"

Investments are showing
I was told this course was in shambles. The new owners have what seem to be significant investments. Greens have been reseeded and are starting to look full. They are fuzzy but it boards well for next spring. Nice layout that makes you think off the tee. Clubhouse felt empty and lifeless. Employees were nice. I’m looking forward to playing it again in a few months to see the progress.
Premier course gone bad
This course used to be one of the premier courses around. Hadn't played in several years and was highly disappointed. Only part that was decent were the greens. Fairways, tee boxes and sand traps were horrible. There was more grass in traps then on fairways. Took us over an 1 1/2 hrs to play 4 holes. Carts were in disarray. Seats torn with missing chucks. Course poorly marked. Will not be back to this course again. For what we paid expected a lot more.
Worth the drive from Orlando
This has a lot of potential, I am not sure if they are doing a redo of the original clubhouse so they have a make shift Proshop or if this is the new Proshop? The holes are flipped so front 9 is old back 9 I think but otherwise the course was in decent shape some holes on the new back 9 are a bit rough but are coming around. The reviews continue to go up and they are working to make it better. Keep it up and if you are hesitant give it a try it’s not bad!
Must play
Course best layout in Florida maybe best layout I’ve played..staff amazing. Course not perfect been going through some repairs but definitely a steel for the price .playing again Tuesday can’t wait.must play won’t be disappointed
Worth a try
If they care, I’ll play there. Obvious improvements from last time I played here, a couple of years ago. Hopefully this course becomes and remains what it should be, the best course in central Florida. The new ownership/management is certainly off to a good start.
the course was not in great shape. Great layout. greens were rough, fairways were spotty.
The course is improving
Second time playing this course in the last 2 months.
This is technically a difficult course with a lot of water in play.
The condition of the course is improving and the work the new management team are doing is very clear.
I can see over the next 12 months the course will be back to a very high standard.
Just a note on the Garmin app the front/back 9 has been reversed so the1st hole is hole 10 on Garmin!
I look forward to playing this course again
Improving?
Great bones, one of the better layouts in the area, but conditions still a far cry from what it used to be. Still, better than when I last played out here about a year ago, looks like they’re working to improve it, but don’t rush to play here
Course is playable
Good for hot deal, I d be disappointed at full price..
Different work projects appear to be taking place including irrigation repair
Poor Conditions
I used to love this course, it has a nice layout, now conditions are horrendous. Not recommended if you are looking for decent conditions.
First time in a few weeks
I really like playing here now that it’s basically public again. The course isn’t in great shape, particularly the tee boxes. But the greens were in better shape than the last time I was here and hopefully the course will keep working on everything!
Needs help!
Difficult to understand why this facility would attempt to become private. This course layout is nice, however the conditions are not! Of the 18 tee boxes only one is adequate. The greens are slow, the fairways are barely adequate. We have played this course many times and the conditions are the worst ever…. Even the golf carts are in terrible shape! If it weren’t for Group Golfer discount it would not be worth the $$.
Not even trying
This course has continued to go downhill. They don’t even bother to cut the course correctly or make it appealing at all. They use to host tournaments here and now they went private and are pretty much begging people to come back by reopening to the public so soon. GolfCart monitors have been stripped and debris all over the place. Save your time and money. Avoid this place!
Would recommend this course to an enemy
Pros
Staff - very friendly and acknowledged the poor conditions
Layout- definitely a championship caliber Layout.
Cons
Conditions- the poor conditions become apparent as soon as you enter 1st tee box (10 on most apps). Course can't necessarily control the standing water, but they can most definitely control the height of the grass.
Tee boxes- horrible
Greens - ok. Extremely inconsistent but compared to everything else, you're surprised they are in the sub par shape they're in
Fairways - ok. I'd say slightly better than places like eagles dune because of the excessive water.
Spoke to a couple members that acknowledged the horrid conditions of the course. On a positive note, they stated that course is slowly improving.
Warning - it's easy to spot ain't piles where there's sand but Timmy has red ain't piles hidden by taller grass.
In it's current condition (on a sat/sun peak time) $25-35 is fair. Especially considering the course was largely empty.
Tried to upload a photo of a tee box. Even on a tee the ball was covered by grass. Yes, it was that bad.
