Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club - Bobcat/Gator Course

About
Silver Dollar Golf & Trap Club offers three unique nine-hole courses located just northwest of Tampa. The courses take advantage of the scenic landscape provided by the west Florida coast. Stately trees dot the terrain as well as several lakes and ponds. The nines: the Bobcat, the Gator, and the Panther; can be played individually, consecutively, or as an 18-hole combination. The Bobcat/Gator layout offers an interesting variety of fairways that range from wide to narrow, tree lined to open. There are also strategically placed bunkers and water hazards coming into play throughout. The golf course balances challenging elements with player-friendly features to make a versatile course that appeals to a range of different skill levels. The versatile layouts and variety of options makes Silver Dollar one of the best values in the Tampa area.

Improved conditions
Last year we swore off Silver Dollar, our last round there was terrible. We tried again cause you can’t beat a 30 dollar round and my buddy was getting back out after a year off due to surgery. We were pleasantly surprised at the improved conditions, staff friendliness and just a great time had.
Panther
#18 on panther could use a sign. Greens and fairways were in perfect condition. I live in south Tampa and this is my favorite course to play at even with a 48min drive time.
LOUD!!!
Apaprently they use the golf driving range for competitive skeet shooting on occasion...it was this day. It was LOUD. ALL DAY. For the entire round. We were directed to play the Panther and Bobcat courses (each 9 holes) instead of the Gator and Panther due to the skeet. So the Bobcat was different for us as we had played the location before. Some holes were very nice, others very chopped up. Florida in the winter (dry season).
Reasonably priced but you get what you pay for
Me and three friends played Silver Dollar this past Saturday. The tee boxes are in bad shape and the fairways weren't all that great either. Some of the greens were fine but a few were pretty bumpy. Silver Dollar used to be a low cost course but its up into the 50 dollar range but the course hasnt gotten any better to warrant an increase.
Silver dollar
Course was rough. Greens had stuff on them that affected the roll. Could be dead spots or weeds. Tee boxes in rough shape.
loud
The course hosts a skeet shooting range. Same area as the driving range. There was a competition there today.... LOUD.... all day.....Usually golfers play the Gator and Panther courses (both 9 holes) for the 18. Due to the shooting we were directed towards the Panther course for the back nine. Course was very dry due to the present drought here in Florida. Greens were OK, but some fairways were not so good.
Going downhill fast
Went to have a fun round but the course has never looked this bad. The greens were only green because they were painted. The tee boxes were mostly sand boxes and all uneven.
Wet and rough fairways, some greens are okay, others in sad shape, some greens the flag pole does not fit into the cup properly. Sad tee boxes. Still fun
2nd Visit to Silver Dollar
This is my 2nd visit to Silver Dollar in less than a year, my 1st visit the course was in very good condition, played the Gator & the Panther. Played the same 2 nines this time, completely different course. Fairways were in good condition although a lot of bare areas. The greens the 2nd time, greens were terrible. You ball bounced around like it was inside a pinball machine, very disappointed with the greens. The putting green, very good condition, led you to believe the greens would be a reflection of the condition of the putting green, Far from it. Based on this visit, would not recommend to a friend and probably will not be returning myself.
Great value - great pace of play
We decided to play last minute and booked an 11:20am tee time. Got to the course - bought lunch - and headed to the first hole. The starter offered us Bobcat instead of Gator since Gator was stacked up with a threesome and twosome in front of us.
We played Bobcat in about 1:20 minutes -never waited until #7. We finished up - and went to slide onto Gator - but there was a wait. Asked if we could play Bobcat again and played it in about 1:15. Never waited until #8. Course was in good shape. Greens were quick. Bunkers were raked but the sand was hard pack. Playing 18 in February under 3 hours - priceless. We will be back.
Mixed bag.
Some of the holes (tee boxes, fairways, greens) were great. Others were frankly horrible.
Meh
First drive past the pro shop to a second lot otherwise you walk 600 yards to the cart shop and then again back to your car. The staff was friendly. The pace of play was excellent. 3:15. The greens were bumpy and pace was uneven. The cups were sloppy. But the price was commensurate. There is a lot of water that you don’t see until you are in it. I would give them a second chance in April/May
