Been a while.
Love this track. Hadn’t played it since the early 2000’s and want to kick myself. The condition of the track is very good considering the amount of play it gets. The greens are great, bunkers good and fairways good. The views are insane. Working man’s Torrey Pines/Sandpiper. The pro shop staff are great and the young lady in the restaurant was awesome. Super friendly and nice. Would like to be back every week.
Pace is a Joke
I asked the starter about the pace and he laughed at me.
After 3 and a half hours and only the front 9, i gave up and went home. The staff needs to double down on ambassadors, because unless it changes, I and many others wouldn't play here.
Beware of Marine Layer
Golf course will not refund you even if marine layer causes course to be unplayable. Played 6 holes and deemed not eligible for refund or rain check. There was no visibility at tee box to see hole in front of you.
They ruined the view!
Signature hole 15 green, the famous backdrop over the cliff has been ruined by a driving range type 50-foot tall fence they built in the last year, apparently to stop errant balls from flying onto rooftops below. Those are some serious metal poles!! There’s also an added netting that runs along the next tee on 16. But I hear they’ve already had problems with it due to the hawks that would fly into the netting, getting themselves caught in it, unable to escape and choking. So sad. Anyway, that famous hole is ruined by this giant ugly fence.
POP was 5 hours in the afternoon after a 15 minute delay teeing off, on a Tuesday!! Waited on every shot. Every shot. So sad.
Course is not in good shape at all, it’s the typical Los Verdes conditions with patchy, clumpy grass and dried out dirt everywhere, hardly any rough down the sides so for people who hit errant shots it would run off to the next fairway or off the course, as usual.
The greens were hit or miss, some were firm and others were spongy moist, but most of them, except for may be the first green, were all kinda slow and way too bumpy due to the moisture sponge causing footprints, the ball would Plinko all over the place.
The driving range had a problem with their machine at first, they couldn’t provide balls. $15 for a half bucket of mostly trashed balls on mats is highway robbery. These courses are raking in the cash and are not putting it back in to look after the place, the restaurant-bar was packed at the end of the day with the usual rowdy drunks, clearly raking in the cash there too. So sad.
They ruined the view!!
Had no idea that they had built a giant 50 foot driving range type fence wrapping the back of the signature hole 15. It’s totally ruined the view. And I heard that they already had problems with the fence where the hawks were flying into them and killing themselves because they aren’t able to escape the netting. So sad.
Course is the same as it always has been. Poorly maintained fairways and dirt rough. Greens bumpy like crazy today, inconsistent from hole to hole, one would be dry and firm and another would be moist and spongy.
POP was awful, waited on every shot all afternoon. Teed off 15 minutes late and ended with the typical 5 hour round.
Dunno why people put up with this debacle.
The range had problems with the machine so the balls couldn’t be dispersed at first. $15 for a medium bucket of janky balls, so ridiculous. Highway robbery.
Not worth the hazy view of the ocean from way high above the cliffs anyway.
It’s packed because there’s plenty of locals to fill the tee times, since if you live anywhere in this area all you have is this one course, the other is Trump and 98% of people aren’t going to pay that price over there.
But, there has to be a limit on skill level. It’s ridiculous to watch people play the back tees when they can’t even get the ball off the ground, and then they also have no concept of etiquette whatsoever.
Billy Bell at his finest
Unfortunately, I’m a little hesitant to tell everyone how great this courses due to the fact that it’s already very crowded. However, I’m morally can’t keep this to myself. So if that being said, it’s the best deal in California, some of the great views, and an absolutely, outstanding green complexes. If you can get a time, Get it!!! Walk it if you can and certainly breathe in the fresh ocean air while enjoying the Vista. Oh, and also, bring some tissue if you don’t like 3 putting. Good luck.
Los Verdes In Great Condition Except Bunkers
Snagged a 6:20am tee time for two on a Friday the day before. Overall course is in good condition for public course. Some tee boxes a little beat up but nothing terrible. Fairways and greens in excellent conditions but bunkers were all hard as rocks.
Finished the round in 4 hours and 30 minutes and had to wait a few minutes for the greens to clear on all the par 3s and some of the par 4s. Overall a great value for the money with its awesome ocean views and notoriously tough to read greens.
5 holes in 2 hours
Worst pace of play I have ever experienced on any course. 5 holes in 2 hours. Multiple holes with 4 groups waiting to tee off. Not uncommon to have to wait 20-30 minutes after finishing a hole before getting to the tee box. The management really needs to figure something out here, bummer to see this level of mismanagement.
Terrible pace
I’ve played this course multiple times and never finished because it is so slow.
I had a 3pm tee time but didn’t get to tee off until around 3:15. I expected to finish cuz last light wasn’t until around 8:30pm but only got through 15 holes. One of the guys I was playing with said the weekends are usually 5 and a half hrs and he was right. They have a starter at the 1st tee but it doesn’t seem to help. They squeezed in a group that didn’t have a tee time after us and they hit into our group on the 2nd hole.
I get that the staff is trying to accommodate a busy course and be friendly but the experience is ruined by the terrible pace of play. Rancho is busier and still keeps rounds around 4 hrs.
Also some of these comments seem phony, one user keeps posting about how he played on the 4th of July during March and May.
