Golf Club At South Hampton
About
The Golf Club at South Hampton was designed to give every golfer appropriate risk-and-reward opportunities that supply both encouragement to beginners and challenges for more advanced players. The slope and contour of the course’s landscape is its trademark with strategic mounding and over 60 contoured bunkers that emphasize the terrain’s natural undulations. The course features rolling fairways and massive greens. There are also sixteen large lakes that come into play throughout. The signature hole is the tremendous par-5, 17th, which is a scenic hole that features a lake, fairway bunkers, and a breaking green. Although the course is a challenge, there are six sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels.

Great transformation from the way it was couple months ago
I was impressed so much that I wanted to play again. Unfortunately, the rain got me.
Terrible experience
Staff couldn’t be more bothered. Then there was lighting in the area and they couldn’t answer questions about going out or not and rain checks. Just canceled my tee time and said call golf now for refund. Now they can’t verify my tee time because he canceled it. Lost my money. Thanks for nothing all week and yesterday Mitch! You were not helpful.should have just stayed away like I did last few years. Miss the old south Hampton!
Better, but a far cry from where it used to be.
I had heard that they have been working on the course conditions, so I decided to give it a shot. There was still some bumpiness from recent aeration efforts, which i expected. However, the condition of 2,3,4,7, and 8 were pretty rough, especially around the greens. I took pictures but don't see where I can attach them. The left side of #2 and #5 fairways were very sandy and had little grass.
The back 9 greens were pretty darn good. Only the aerification marks made them slightly bumpy.
I really hope that Southampton continues to improve. It used to be the best value on 210. St Johns is closed and Cimarrone has made massive strides. Southampton needs to continue to step up.
I won't be back for a while, but will be keeping watch on reviews. This is my favorite course in the area when in good condition.
Better
The greens are getting better. Still not there yet but better
Course needs some attention
Great course, great staff, great amenities but the course needs some attention
Dont believe all the negative reviews
The course is in great shape. Greens are in pretty good shape. The areas around the greens is where the work can be done but its in areas 85% of golfers chipping. Glad they getting it back together always been a fun track
Improving
Some greens are better but still a way to go. Many areas around greens are dirt. Fairways are mostly good as are tee boxes. If under $40 it's worth it.
Excellent Course!
The course is going through some summer renovations but it's my favorite layout in all of Jacksonville. For the price and the experience it's the best bang for your buck. I typically play this course at least once a week and it never gets old. Once they finish up their work on the course, this will be beautiful come fall time. Definitely would recommend!
South Hampton is coming back
South Hampton is coming back little by little, you can really tell the work they’ve done on the greens, in the fairways m, and on the tee boxes, kudos to the golf club and their staff.
South Hampton is Back!
If you stopped playing Siuth Hampton itt is time to go back. Just played and the greens are so much better and 100% improved and now you can putt. Best course this side of town and all levels of play. Friendly staff from check in to the 19th hole. Very happy to see it so improved....And do not forget the deer at dusk on 18.
Greens Are Horrible
The greens look like they have leprosy. Huge swaths of dead grass that make putting more challenging that miniature golf's obstacles.
The tee boxes are entirely unmarked, short of distance boxes and you have to rely on the cart GPS system, which half works. The carts are constantly stopping you for ponding water on the course.
The pace of play was atrocious with guys in front of us acting like they were playing in the PGA Championship Finals. One guy even laid down to line up his putt.
The course staff was awesome. Nicest folks I've dealt with and they honestly made the day. The cart girl didn't show up until six holes in and she had extremely limited options.
Someone needs to invest some money in this course to make the greens fees worth it.
They are bringing SH back
I haven’t played South Hampton for many months now and I was told by some golfers I played with at another course recently that they’re really doing a good job bringing it back, so I went, and I was pleasantly surprised. Friendliness at the check-in, cool people at the bar, however, one downside was the starter yesterday, he was just downright not nice. 12:51 tee time in 6//8/25. You’re getting the course back SH, don’t blow it with unkind people working as starters🏌️
Great time
I had a great time and the course was in pretty good condition.
Bad
Lost greens and charging close to $100 on the weekend, which would be fine if the former wasn’t true.
Pace of play was unbearable. GPS carts allow the clubhouse to monitor pace of play, yet nothing is done to prevent slow play.
Just bad.
Decent Round, But Overpriced for the Conditions
I hadn’t played here in a while due to past negative reviews, but I decided to give it another shot. Overall, the fairways are in good condition for the most part. Some greens do have noticeable bad spots, but it seems the course management has been strategic in placing the holes in the better areas.
That said, when I compare South Hampton to other courses in the area, I feel the green fees should be in the low $40s. The current advertised rate of $60 seems steep for the condition and experience offered.
