Golf Club At South Hampton

Overall, I give this course a 3 out of 5. Used to be my favorite as it was fun to play, wide open, challenging, and in great shape, but its slipped a little. I'm not going harp on the greens much as the course is playable, but I wouldn't pay top dollar in the mornings or on weekends as there are better options for similar prices. There are still too many corners and areas of greens that need better repair work and the same goes for the fairways and some tee boxes. It looks like there were multiple sprinkler line breaks across the fairways that were just never filled, rolled, and seeded/sodded properly. Many areas need some more water too. I realize that it takes time and I feel they are working on it, but they're not there yet or close enough. Perhaps they are trying to get by until next year when I hear the greens are being completely redone? I'm excited for when that happens, but in the meantime I'm going to use discretion.

Have to say I had low expectations based on ratings on here and word of mouth, but have to say , yes the greens are coming in in some places, others have patchy spots but it’s much improved since January and the greens putted true considering how they looked. I’ve paid more $$ for worse conditions in ST John’s county in the last 5 years so it’s not bad unless you’re looking for country club conditions at their prices. It’s worth a try at this price and good news is they are going offline next summer for a complete redo.

Course is spray painted, and in really rough shape. Maybe in a few years it will be better but not now. Not for $85…

I try to play this course as often as i can. Itis one of my favorite courses. They have done an excellent job inproving the condirion of the greens

Practice range in aweful condition,except for putting surface no cart girl insight. Overall course condition fair.

This course use to be my favorite course I I even considered membership. It is in such bad shape now though. Greens are in horrible shape with patchy grass. There are so many different types of grass on the greens mown at different heights.

Fairways are decent though are not draining well. Several spots were wet and balls would plug on a dry day.

Tee box’s are not well maintained and have patchy areas of sand on about all of them.

Just really disappointed with the whole experience.

I played here because of a few reviews saying that the greens had recovered. They haven't. They were spray painted bright green which actually turned my white putter green. Very shaggy and bumpy.

Other than that it's a pretty cool course and layout. Fairways were good. Tee boxes were ok. Staff was nice. I wouldn't play again until I had confirmation of green recovery from someone I know.

Look, you can’t make this up even if you wanted to. Every single green in this golf course was in bad shape and painted. Fairways OK for the most part, but the tee boxes oh my Lord, I mean they need help. There is not other way to put it.

South Hampton used to be one of the best daily fee tracks in the area, but yesterday the course conditions were miserable at best and the once gem of the area is now gone. Staff wasn't helpful with slow play and we didn't see anyone else besides the beverage cart staff, who ran out of ice...the layout is fun, but the green complexes and surrounds are just awful.

Certainly not worth a 5 hour round in the heat.

Fairways in great shape. The greens are recovering after fungus attached them last year. A few bald areas on greens on front 9 but back 9 greens are much better.

From tee boxes, to fairways and greens, SH is a solid 8 out of 10 right now. Do not listen to people complaining (usually the same people), just play the course and see for yourself. Is it perfect? No, but it is in great shape and playing better every week. Hit em straight🏌️

Fun course. The only problem was the back nine. There was a ladies group about 4 groups ahead of us that was exceptionally slow. There was a separation on about 3 holes between the ladies and the group in front of them. Course advisor could not get them to move along. But it was only on the back nine it impacted us and we still played in about 4 hrs.

Minor irritation.

I played this course July 23 , 2025 , I know they have some issues but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff is doing a GREAT job getting this course back in shape. From the time I walked onto the practice green until the last shot it was a great day. Staff at check in was very friendly . Course is really coming around. There are still a few spots on a couple of greens but nothing serious given the shape the course was in a year ago. We are definitely putting it back on our schedule. It’s a great layout and a big salute to management for getting it back it has always been one of my favorite courses since moving to Jacksonville. Keep up the good work ! If you left because of course conditions in the past I would highly recommend a second look you will not be disappointed!!

I appreciate Management for the great improvements on the golf course. 90% improvement the greens even though they’re a bit slow are in great condition

I played the three times in the last two weeks. I enjoyed it very much.

Average at best. And the Pro Shop staff are ridiculous. Wanted to charge a full green fee for a rider. Only good if you can get it for under $30.

beautiful area, forgiving course thats seen better days but always a good time
