Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Poor Customer Service
I booked a round for me and 2 friends through golf now. While there was no issue checking in and playing, we got hit with terrible weather and lightning. We were able to finish the front 9. When I went to the clubhouse to get a rain check for another day, they said they could not honor it since it was booked through Golfnow.
I spent 20 minutes or so on the phone with Golfnow and they said they would need to confirm with the course the date, cost, and rain issues. They said they were unable to get ahold of the course. I called the course right after the call and got through first time.
What a horrible experience and I'm now out 60 bucks (me and my guests) and Mayfair nor GolfNow seem to care. Terrible experience. Will probably not play this course again nor use GolfNow if there is not remedy.
Mayfair Country Club
They have upgraded the quality of the greens and fairways. Greens rolled awesome great speed. Not much for clubhouse supposedly going to build a new one? People were friendly. Only problem is pace of play its always busy
Good not great
Staff is excellent. Pace of play was brisk - teeing off just before 7 we finished in around 3 hours. Only a threesome in front of us but they moved very quickly. Gold and Red tee boxes need attention. Parts of fairways are bad. Greens overall okay, a couple need work. A bit higher than I think it should be, but in line with the area. Hole 12 is a temp. Small snack bar limited but friendly.
Mayfair
The course is in good shape. The greens are very good.
Okay course
This course is fun to play and has rich history. The layout is a little dated but you have to expect that with a course that is literally 102 years old.
Staff was super friendly especially in the make shift clubhouse. Notably Alexis was very personable.
I will come back for sure.
Mayfair is in decent shape.
Greens are mostly clean and slightly quick. Tee boxes and patches of fairway are a bit sandy and dry (needs much more water). Value is solid as greens fees are 15-20% down from most munis in town. Staff is quick and friendly.
Club is run by the locals
Let me first say that the overall conditions of the golf course were very good. The greens were smooth, readable, but lacked consistency between slow and fast. There fairways are in great shape and the tea boxes for the most part were also in good shape.
It would’ve been nice if someone in the clubhouse had noted to my group that whole 12 was now a part three and not a part five I think they should at least acknowledge that to each player.
My teatime was the first teatime after the men’s club scramble. There are no starters or Rangers roaming the golf course. The men’s club can do what they want when they want how they want and piece of not controlled. We had three groups in front of us, all playing as groups of five I’m not really sure why the golf course would allow this, but clearly the men’s club is running the course and not the actual staff.
If you can play here on a discount, I think it’s a good value. It’s a fun course to play. I shot 77 for my first time playing. I would note that the club really should do a better job of managing the men’s club and the pace of play so that those that may not be a part of that club can enjoy the round. Our total round is 4 1/2 hours not bad however could’ve been done in 3 1/2 to 4 if we didn’t have three groups of five playing in front of us.
ok for the price
Greens in good shape, fairways fairly brown. IF you get a good price its worth trying.
UCFGA
The course was in reasonable shape for Mayfair. Hole number 12 was under construction and No mention of it was given online or at the course before teeing off. Some of the tee boxes were in poor shape but otherwise the course was pretty good.
This course is a favorite of mine to come out and play. My group played from the tips which I'd never done before and was real challenged by. The course continues to impress with it's increasingly good shape. The greens in particular look really nice compared to this time a year ago.
always bad
This place has been consistently bad to poor for the 20+ years I have lived nearby. Nothing favorable to comment about. Some folks will brag on the greens which are actually green and stand out as best part of course. But if honest they only stand out due to the below overage conditions of everything else, even then they aren't cut crisply or rolled. Clubhouse build has been "coming soon:" for at least 3 yrs.
Course has high volume of play and owned by the city. Not sure why they don't have the revenue to make meaningful course improvements.
Tough to play golf in this area when all the public options are also in poor condition, speaking about Victoria Hills, Winter springs, deltona, glen abby, twin rivers.
As far as this course try to find a better one!
Course has old beautiful oaks. Nice layout.
The course is going through transition I can see positive improvement. Good value for the money. Will not hesitate to play there again.
You can do better, Sanford.
We used to enjoy playing at Mayfair as it is an oldie, but a goodie. Sadly, that was not our experience this time. Had a great weather day and a 12:30 tee time yesterday only to be greeted by NO carts available, and a wait for them to come in. We began walking the course until the carts caught up and noticed that there were many foursomes with individual carts. This should not occur when you have that many players out a time. Staff was neither courteous nor apologetic.
Still no clubhouse to relax in, I get it....they're in the process of building one. But in it's absence, it would be nice to have at least ONE cart girl available for water or beverages, since there are no water stations on course. Stopped into the temporary clubhouse for a beer before the 10th hole and cashier was also rude. "If you want something to drink, get in line."
Greens were in decent shape, but the fairways and tee boxes were goat trails.
Just not the old course that we used to enjoy. We'll drive further from our home next time for a better experience.
golf courses should have grass
There's barely enough grass to make the area look green. With year round growing season, there is no excuse to have bare fairways on a golf course. The bunkers had poor sand and you could damage a wedge if you didn't watch where you were hitting. The course was overbooked and the starter was overwhelmed, but he worked hard to get the lineup organized. We were only 15 minutes late starting for a round that took over 5 hours. They don't have a ranger to monitor slow players. The practice area was worthless. It's an inexpensive place to play golf and that's the only positive thing to say about the experience. We won't be back because I don't see much plans to improve.
