Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Slow pace of play
The course is in "OK" condition. 4.75 hr to play 18 holes due to 5 player group ahead of us. No ranger to monitor slow pace. I fail to understand why this course allows 5 golfer groupings.
needs work
Lot's of construction in progress on the first 3 holes. It was interesting standing on the tee-box and having an oversized dump truck driving down the fairway at you. Large dump trucks, front end loaders and road-graders and not good for fairways. Deep ruts caused by the heavy equipment make for washboard fairways. Tee boxes and fairways are very thin with little grass. I think this is the dustiest course I have ever played. This is the dry season in Florida, and it appears there is no sprinkler system on the course. When we finished our round, we have to beat our golf bags with towels, to get all the dust off our bags. Greens are perfect, except for a couple holes that have some bare spots under repair. The fastest greens I have played on in a while. Nice. I will try it again, after the construction is finished and after we get some rain.
JUST GO PLAY THERE!
Give this historic course a try. Move the ball if you wish and enjoy this old time layout. Read up on the history of the Mayfair Open which is still played today. I noticed some former PGA players names at the 2021 event.
Very nice greens
For the very economical price, I had an enjoyable round at Mayfair. I appreciate the focus on important aspects of a course: Green condition and maintaining flatness with quick green speed, bunkers, and fairways.
Surprised by the good conditions
This is a typical old Florida course. I've played it lots in the past, but it was always in questionable condition. This was a very pleasant surprise. The greens were excellent, and even the occasional bare patch rolled well. But the speeds were almost too fast to allow play at times due to severe slopes. (Those were originally designed for the old 6-8 green speeds.) One major upgrade needed is to tear up the broken concrete that passes for cart paths in many places. Fairways were in decent shape.
The restroom at #6 tee is new, and the clubhouse has been torn down for a rebuild, so hopefully the improvements are coming.
Short @ sweet
Overall good conditions, greens above average, rough cut down well. Few water hazards fewer lost balls.
GREAT DEAL
GREAT LITTLE COURSE ,NEVER USE TO LIKE THIS COURSE BUT TRIED IT TWO WEEKS AGO AND WAS VERY MUCH SURPRISE HOW WELL THE COURSE WAS MAINTENED ONE OF THE COURSES TO PUT RYE GRASS DOWN PLAY THIS OLDIE BUT GOODIE
Course is under clubhouse reconstruction to modernize. Finish is due in late summer 2021.
Greens are fast and for the most part very good. (A few scruffy marks from many players). Fairways are wide and clean. The only truly poor aspect of Mayfair are the cart paths. They date back to the early 1920s and you can expect a bumpy ride while you are exiting the tee boxes. Staff is helpful and friendly. Excellent $ value for your golfing dollar. Recommended for the decent amateur.
Amazing walking/Golf cart course
I had heard horror stories of this course for a couple years. A great deal came up and decided to check it out.
Boy was I surprised. The practice green was all hilly and that was only a small insight to how all the greens were gonna be. Hills, drop offs, speed. You had to hit it good for it to stick it you would have a crazy putt to deal with.
The fairways are manicured and you do not have an issue seeing where they are.
If you have not played this course, I recommend checking it out.
