Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

The course is very open and many times players end up playing on the wrong fairway to get back to the one they were supposed to be on. Dangerous. The greens are WAY too short and therefore WAY too fast. The wind blows and the ball moves sometimes just as you are about to putt. Not good. Too many totally blind drives with no easy immediate way to see where you should aim your drive. It just was not an enjoyable experience.
Very Disapointing
The course was in very bad shape. Tee boxes were in the worst shape in a few years. I had dirt lies in the "fairway" more than a few times. Greens were chewed up on a few holes. And there was no help from a ranger to speed up play when we had to wait on every hole. Friendly cart beverage lady.
Course in rough shape
If you’re just looking to get out and hit some balls and enjoy the Florida sunshine this course gets the job done. Just know that it’s poorly maintained, and you’re in danger of getting hit on every other hole because of the layout. There were a lot of beginner golfers on the course the day we played but the pace of play was still decent. Staff was friendly.
Course has potential
Super slow. Up to 3 flights were waiting to tee off. After 1 1/2. hours we just were done with the 7 hole. We gave up after that.
Course was also not in great condition.
Upgrade
Most all greens were in good shape a few had some bare spots. Glad to see they are working on the course especially the tee boxes. It will take time but they making good progress. Cudos to the management
You get what you pay for - typical average municipal course.
The course in the past was a decent layout, but now there's barely any grass on the fairways and the rough is worse. There are areas where they deposited sand because too many trees have kept grass from growing evenly. Bunkers were OK, and the greens were decent, except for a "mounding effect" around the cup when they pulled out the cutter. The place is packed with players of average skill level and some less than that. It was inexpensive, and yet a decent enough course for someone from the north who hasn't played much golf back home to get in a warmup round for play on a better course.
Great day
Greens are fast and the pin placement was a little different. But all was great.
Greens are Fast!
Mayfair is a Central Florida Classic.
The course layout challenges good shot making but is forgiving. The course is far from perfect but if you appreciate chipping and putting this is amazing value as the greens are Fast and roll pure. They haven't always been this way but they are renovating the course and the value for a round is there right now. You can actually put ridge lines and breaks happen how you read them. I really enjoyed my round yesterday and will be back soon!
