Mayfair Country Club
About
Opened in 1922, Mayfair Country Club is one of the oldest golf courses in Florida and it's still the only course in the historic city of Sanford. Over the years, it has hosted a number of famous players including Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer. The layout is wide open with a traditional design that is player friendly enough to appeal to novices and experienced golfers alike. Like most older course designs, the fairways are wide but the approaches aren't very forgiving. Water hazards come into play on over half of the holes and you might be surprised by a few subtle but tricky elevation changes. Mayfair Country Club is not a formidable test by any means, but there are a few challenging holes that will make you think.

Very dry
On the day we golfed the course was very dry. Pretty good layout though. Found the cart path really rough lots of broken cement. Not bad for an older course. Had fun
Very dry
Dry course & the pathway very rough. But all in all the course was challenging & not bad
I Hoped for Better..Just another old course
I had a golfnow tee time cancelled a few weeks ago by the course because of a tournament. We had to find another place to play and pay more, but we decided to give this place another chance this week with another golfnow tee time. When we arrived as a twosome, we were asked to pair with a single guy and told we had to start on the back nine due to a tournament later in the day. Whatever; we rolled with all of it and got to the tee box only to find another single there, so now we had a foursome. We followed a slow foursome all day with nobody in front of them. The course was just barely playable; fairways lumpy with patches of weeds except for a few yards in front of each green that were over seeded and green. The greens were very short and I would say fast, but did not roll true and speeds were not consistent due to sand and small debris. Very difficult to get a ball to hold even with flying the ball high on approach shots. Can't believe people play in whatever daily tournaments they have there that obviously take priority over golfnow tee times! I won't be back.
Diden't Bill tell you?
We arrived to a croud. No problem. Bill went out of his way to find a Mayfair poker chip as I collect them. Bill was busy and never mentioned that they had a league playing that day and we would have to play the front 9 twice to get our 18.
My foursome enjoyed the front 9 but were less than happy too be placed in line (long line) before we could continue our round.
In Bill defense he was dealing with a coustomer who we all though was being a pain in the butt. we had to play two front 9's. Not what we thought we purchased. 18 different holes.
Liked the front, but not enough to play it twice!
Worth the drive
About what one might expect from an older facility. Motorized carts, dryness, wide open fairways favoring those that spray. Nonetheless, well maintained where it mattered. On the greens, tees and most fairway hitting areas. Staff very personable, and helpful.
Not worth 4 star rating.. very disappointing, the cart, the club house and the cart path all quite shabby.
Average layout with good greens
Mayfair has been around a while and judging by the exterior, it’s easy to tell there is history here. It’s a real golf course, only one hole is lined with houses and they are technically REALLY out of play. The layout of the course is pretty straightforward, not really a lot of challenge on holes. Fairways are narrow but with the rough dormant right now, there is no punishment there. Each hole is wide so you have some forgiveness. The greens were in great condition, rolled smooth and broke accordingly. They weren’t super fast, about a 10.5, but you paid for it downhill if you missed the hole and hit too hard.
Outside appearances may be old, but inside of the pro shop is renovated and up to date. With adequate supply of necessities. There is a bar/grill and cart lady was around frequent enough.
The only real knock I have to give the course is the driving range is small, both ways, only like 6-8 people can use it at one time and you can’t use a club greater than 160 yds. It’s not enough real estate but it’s better than nothing and allows a sufficient warmup prior to round.
Personnel were polite and I was greeted with a gentleman who drove a cart out to me and told me exactly where to head to do whatever. Good service all around.
Overall, it was a good experience.
Very crowded Sunday @ 11:00
5 hr round.. nice course not a wow. Greens above average pretty fast.
Course mgmnt
Mayfair needs to warn customers when skin games and tourny's interupt abilty to play all 18 holes
Mayfair Golf Course
Had not played there in some time. Fairways were in good shape. Greens were very fast. Sand traps were in the best condition I’ve ever seen them. Pace of play was good even though it was Saturday and the course was full. Will probably start playing there on more of a regular basis depending on the green fee charges.
Drastically improved
I haven't played here in a few years. I was really surprised in how good of shape it was in. The t boxes had a couple that were sanded but it was no big deal. The fairways were almost perfect. Even in the rough the ball set up to leave a nice lie. The greens were fast and putted well. Bunkers had enough sand in them. Bill was a great guy at the desk and paired me up with 2 fine gentlemen. The cart guy was real nice as was the bartender. If it wasn't for the cart paths that need some work i would have given it 5 stars. Well worth playing.
With 3 inches of rain in 2 days, very good drainage
Terrible cart paths but the greens were in great condition.
May FairCart paths and
The title pretty much describes this course, which once upon a time, was a gym. The layout is still as challenging as it was to the pros of old, but the upkeep and maintenance of the cart paths is like a battlefield. I know this seems trivial but It’s a rough ride out there.
!BEST for the buck
This course had improved so much, and the greens are fast. It's one of my favorite courses and great for the price esoecially booked on a hotdeak on GolfNow!
old school
I like this course...play it several times a year. Like many courses they keep up the greens better than the fairways but both were in good shape...fast greens with some slight elevation changes makes putting an adventure....some really long holes makes the big drivers happy and weaker hitters like me a little tired.
I would recommend this course to most anyone.
Always fun - pace of vital
Always good if you get the chance to play the course without being held up. Starter helped to get me away on my own to play at my pace quickly.
Always try to play this place when I’m in Orlando.
Play here alot, staff always courteouz and helpful. Good value , nice course.
